Life before Martha
aalhryf5 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is different from other relationships We will discover 'Donny' life without Martha and before her appearance. The story telling in this episode was great and his attention to detail in every scene. Donnie discovers his sexual orientation through his many experiences with each gender and his attempt to discover himself . Multiple relationships in his life before the appearance of the eccentric "Martha", whose first appearance in Donnie's life made him another person, a strange person like her.

Martha: She is eccentric and strict. Her laugh is distinctive and makes you immerse yourself in her many serious.

Serious episode

This was difficult to watch but the story telling and acting involved in producing something so troubling yet important to watch is at a very high standard. The fact the the main actor actually went through this in real life adds an extra dimension of pain and I only hope this helped him in some way. Regardless of his own personal experience his acting in this is near enough flawless and he really takes you on his journey. I feel this will help people understand the complicated nature of what he went through and how that then procede to subtlety impact on his next decisions that led to the stalking. It raises questions over who is vulnerable and the unsettling thoughts of our own youth and that we could have been in similar situations if we met the wrong person at the wrong time.

A big hitting episode.
Sleepin_Dragon14 April 2024
Donny prepares to report Martha to The Police, and has he tries to gather his thoughts, he contemplates how he managed to get to this point, he looks back to the time he got going at The Edinburgh Festival, and met writer Darrien.

I'm not sure you'd say there's a lot of humour here, compelling and somewhat dark, but incredible viewing, absolutely yes.

It's the first Martha light episode, and surprisingly it really does work, it's another hard hitting, powerful episode, I've mentioned before that Donny is a haunted, troubled soul, and I think this details exactly why that is.

You just know that whenever you see Tom Goodman-Hill that it spells trouble, and that's the case here again, Darrien is one bad guy. That got dark very quickly.

Would The Police take Donnya accusations seriously, I mean would they believe him?

The acting was incredible here.

10/10.

Marvelous writing, heart-wrenching episode.
anaboleia26 April 2024
This episode was brilliantly written, with lots of gut-wrenching scenes.

I couldn't help but cry at "those" scenes, the angst and disgust were almost unbearable, and to think that there are some many evil people in the world just like that makes my skin crawl.

Watching Donny's processing of what happened to him felt really familiar and accurate, as it's often really convoluted and confusing as it was depicted on the show. His portrait of the shame aspect of it, as it takes a huge toll on the victim's life, was incredibly faithful and well-done.

I feel this episode has elevated the quality of this tv show quite a lot, and I hope it will earn Richard some well-deserved awards.

I clenched every inch in my body watching this episode.

Warning: Spoilers
It's an extremely horrible, gut-renching episode (this is a compliment)..

The acting in this episode alone and how he depicted his emotions and tears and what he went through deserves an Oscar.. As someone who watches a lot of TV shows and movies, this episode goes on my top 10 moments of TV of all time.. I kept imagining myself in his position and I kept screaming "please don't go back to his house" and I cried throughout every time I saw Donny cries.

I crawled into a baby position and clenched my whole body when Darrin did his disgusting thing..

I hope he's okay now and that he has managed to move on from the terrible experiences he went through with Darrin and Martha.. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemies..

Best episode thus far

Beautifully written, horrible circumstances.

A bit of a different direction from the other episodes, this delves into Donny's past.

Deeply personal, honest, and open, there's layers upon layers presented of Donny as he tries to make sense of his past and present - You can hear him as he goes back and forth between his own confusion, anger, and shame.

It's especially through those last narrated thoughts as the episode ends that you - the viewer - realize the complexity of trauma and humanity itself at the same time as Donny... The subject matter of the episode is very difficult to tackle, and I think it was very well done. Definitely my favourite episode so far.

best acting i've ever seen
doddm-8953319 May 2024
This is the best acting i've ever seen personally. Me and my boyfriend decided to watch the show affter hearing many raving. Reviews about, i'm so glad we did. This episode makes you experience what feels like a nightmare, it takes you into his brain and leads you through pathways of the abuse that toook place. I had no clue that Richard Gadd actually played himself, This explains why it didn't just feel like acting to me. I broke down crying and my boyfriend had to hold me. The shower scene and his facial expressions... it just didn't seem like acting and it hit so hard man. (i'm a victim too)
