Didn't see that coming !

The season arc approaches it's conclusion, with the usuall quality, humour and wholesomeness.

This episode continues the fan service of our lovable crew and they're uncanny ablity to find themselves in peril / sticky situations that would make the great captains blush.

Good laughs, good pacing, wholesome heart to hearts that make so little sense that they make sense for LD.

The voice acting, animation, and music is once again top notch and puts other shows to shame, it's like the animators have been given a bit more creative freedom this season.

Next week can't come soon enough and then the sucky wait for season 5 news starts !

Psychopaths

Warning: Spoilers
Wow, this show opens with Mariner's reckless actions causing the gruesome death of a scientist and she jokes about it and faces absolutely no punishment or moral quandary whatsoever.

The next scene is an intervention from her mum and commanding officers with Mariner's friends and her question is 'Why is my daughter trying to kill herself?' not 'When did my daughter become a murderous psychopath?'

How am I supposed to care about characters who operate like this? These are Starfleet officers and I'm supposed to believe that they act like this? Also, how callous and inept an organisation is Starfleet that they allow their officers to act this way?

I know this is a comedy but it falls flat without stakes or any kind of moral compass to act as a baseline.

I quite enjoyed elements of the first few seasons but this one has been horrible.

You flew too close to the sun, Mike.

So this season has been full of inconsistencies and honestly it feels like Paramount is trying to starve this series.

Because if Mike had at least enough good writers left, someone would have told him: "Ugh, Mike. You are retconning a tragic character and stepping over their tragic stories with your cartoon."

If anyone knows or seen Lower Decks is based on they would at least try to respect the characters and lore as it was in the original STNG "Lower Decks". Lower Decks cartoon on the other hand, comes in and starts drawing with crayons over the Star Trek Lore Bible.

Basically we learn that Mariner has a connection to the original Lower Decks characters. Not only was this never mentioned before in Lower Decks but the original series dismissed that Mariner even existed! Mike comes in and pulls a Sybock or Micheal Burnham on Mariner like she was behind the camera or under the table during that episode and sucks out all the drama from those episodes/tragedy.

What I found to be more sad is that this whole continuity mess with Mariner could have been easily avoided by just focusing on Mariner's own friend Ramsey instead of retconing Mariner behind the camera of the original Lower Decks.
