Perfect ending in uneven season
jmunozing3 May 2023
Fans of the rookie should be used to an episode as good as this one coming out of nowhere. Intense, gripping and completely satisfying. The action scenes were very accomplished and cinematic. I laughed out loud when Nolan came out wearing a GotG t-shirt, considering he will be in Volume 3.

The stakes were high and everyone had a moment to shine. But the best part was the scene in the stairwell, at times I thought I was watching John Wick XD. Overall the action scenes were fantastic.

This season was uneven, but this episode definitely ends with a bang.

The seed is planted for what is to come next season, and I will be looking forward to it.

WOW! The Best episode in the series.
colangelodc8 May 2023
I can't believe it took nearly 100 episodes. However, this episode is the one we've been waiting for.

My wife said it resembled a horror film. This could easily have been made into a 2 hour finale and still have a cliffhanger. That's how good this episode is.

I love this show and they have made plenty of great episodes, but WOW! Just WOW. This is wonderful "edge of your seat" drama.

Hopefully, the writers and producers keep this going into the next season. Either it's going to be a great follow up or fall with a thud, as some shows tend to do going into a new season, continuing from the previous year. The Rookie has finally broke new ground. Hope they can continue that type of excitement.

I KNEW IT!
Whitneywest105 May 2023
I knew The Rookie had it in there somewhere. After multiple ridiculous finales, finally a finale worthy of this great show! I'd have watched a two, three hour finale of this. I was enthralled. Creepy masks, cops lives on the line, bad guys with real force to challenge our heroes. I was on the edge of my seat. Everyone was involved. A little moment of happy. Of course they have to have us on a cliff until next season to see what's what. I'll be there will bells on. Juarez and Aaron are ambushed by creepy mask wearers and there's a riddle. No one is safe. Is this a new player? Someone with a grudge? Gah, this finale just reminded me of why I binged three seasons of this show and have watched religiously since then. Absolute greatness.

FINALLY BACK TO THE ACTION!!
steebera3 May 2023
After a lot of episodes with sappy, stupid banter and criminals that aren't worth writing an episode about, we finally see the team back in action against a mastermind criminal.

Without giving anything away, we see a lot of cops and detectives rallying together to find out who ambushed Aaron and Selena, and from there it is one fight scene after another, some cool riddle solving, and then you are still left in suspense of what might happen next.

Great episode that seems to be putting the series back on track. Let's just hope they continue with this momentum when they come back next season and any other season in the future.

Not sure how to even rate this

Warning: Spoilers
Ok I like this show generally but this episode while exciting and dramatic is ridiculous, both situationally, and tactically. If anything like this happened in real life, the combined reaction from LA law enforcement would be much larger and faster. Every Law enforcement agency in LA would have been fully mobilized immediately. And the fight scene tactics are very poor. For examples: Nolan would never have put his gun down in the house fight. He would have gotten closer and upon the opportunity shot the guy from behind or the side at close range, which he could have done if you watch the choreography. Or, in the building/stairs/ally fight scene when the perps are advancing with the riot gear, they would not have wasted their ammo against bullet proof shields. They would have shot out the perps legs and the saved some ammo for close quarter fighting. And honestly, when they arrested the eastern european merc, when they realized who he was, they would have taken him out back somewhere and tortured him for info, seriously, no matter how you feel about that morally. I still like many of the actors and charaters in this show but this episoed strains credulity beyond anything reasonable.

Return to form but still flawed

Warning: Spoilers
The alley scene in the beginning looked too much like a set. Aaron getting shot added suspense, though I thought he was shot in the neck/shoulder, but later they said "back", which is horrible aim for point blank. It felt like they were jumping the shark with action, calling on later seasons of The Walking Dead as Nolan exchanges his gun for a hammer, and Tim and Chen engage in hand-to-hand, one at a time on the stairs, and Harper gets in dramatic last second shots, aiming in the direction of other officers with great accuracy. It would have been more believable if Tim and Chen were overrun, just to add more suspense. Nolan's girlfriend being all Jackie Chan against an assassin or hitman... I do not know; she is lightweight, got hit a couple times, but the wall knocked her out. Oh, and the baby drama as she works a crime, as if to say "the baby can wait; I am in charge, my body, I choose..." Tell you what; Iceman better stop knocking her up, because each time it happens, a cop gets shot.

Really good!
venablecl31 December 2023
This episode got my adrenaline up and left me enough confused in a good way because it created anxiety to watch. I really hope that Season 6 is full-force like this. At the end I had to look up the plot just to see if I missed something about who the final character was. One thing I do hope they fix next season is the perfection of all the characters and their relationships. It's getting a little old that none of them have flaws and all have super-powers in everything. I'm hoping also they bring in another batch of new rookies again (like the original 3) and make some of them normal - maybe even have one wash out instead of turning into a super human.

Finally a fresh return
puertorricanboix10 December 2023
Finally after some weird plots the rookie has returned to be a good show. The fact that they brought back the riddles as part of the investigation was refreshing. The whole mystery on the person who plotted the attack makes the show better than just leaving us to know who he is and what to do and just know before Nolan and crew. Hope they do not kill our hopes of a great begining of season by giving us the mystery for just a simple robbery nor they give us an over the top heist like a top secret Cia army super missile that only the presidents eye scan can activate. Let's wait and see what comes of this concept. Overall under siege gave me new hopes for the rookie.

A great end to the season
Finn0o01 August 2023
I've been watching "The Newcomer" for 11 days, and it's a really great show that's worth watching. I decided to leave a review for the final episode of this show. The sixth season took the series to a new level, but the last episode was something special. The idea with the masked people was great, it really kept every moment in suspense, and it's cool, both for me and for most viewers, it was possible to make a full-fledged movie out of this episode. I'm really looking forward to the seventh season of this show and hope it will be even better than the sixth season. Well, also at the end I want to say about the excellent performance of the actors, and the staging of the fight scenes, they really look cool.

a decent episode after 3 bad seasons.
Well, there it is. Maybe season 6 will continue along these lines and be actually worth watching again. I've become invested in the characters and try to watch some eps, but most have been so goddamn awful I just skipped through them to get the often absurdly stupid gist of what's happening and then I just was done. But oh boy, this one was actually worth watching.

Was the action still over the top? Yes. That lack of realism and the weird response to the awful situation weren't great. The ending where we get a monologue meant for the audience that just wasn't natural at all was also really bad. It's a crutch writing device usually reserved for amateurs, not multimillion dollar shows.

Still, a big improvement over the partially asinine nonsense they had thrown at us previously. Can we get much more of this and a lot less of children stealing helicopters and 60 year old teachers becoming top FBI agents in a week? That'd be neat.

Great episode, bigger plot cooking up for season 6
imtheamplifier2 October 2023
Nice episode, probably the most intense one out of the whole show. Epic scenes in this episode. Though cannot say I'm pleasant with another end season cliffhanger.

After everything that happened in this episode and in the series, there are couple of questions. Was that all connected in the series, did we miss some important hints along the way? And most importantly, what was the ending. I have a strong feeling the show has made a right decision and path, politics and bigger forces could be involved in season 6, just imagine if the police has to deal with an armed coup, mr. Stone gets out, new order sets in and the characters will have to make the new unlawful system rot by doing stuff from the inside by masterful UC work. Really looking forward to such twist and hope it won't be too short, has to be at least half a season or a full one.

Some relief from the soap operas
VetteRanger6 May 2023
Other than a pregnant detective in labor, this show finally moved away from the annoying soap operas much of the season has suffered from and got to some more dedicated focus on the characters as police ... even if the premise of the episode seems rather silly.

There are simply too many jumps in logic for the "bad guys" and too many scenes that were written for effect rather than to hang together with other scenes ... for example the bad guys coming after the first two LEOs with guns, but the merc doesn't have one when he attacks Nolan? And later the gang of disgruntled crooks have bulletproof plastic but only carry machetes and other hand weapons? Then our two heroes waste ALL their ammo on the shields and don't lower their aim for the legs? (I'm not the first viewer to mention that one LOL).

I hadn't been keeping track, but I mentioned somewhere in the middle of the show that it must be the season ender, which my wife quickly confirmed.

So while I had fewer things to roll my eyes at than other episodes this season, the plotting was still amateur level writing. The first three seasons of this show were great. It started to slip a bit in season four, and five has been a disaster.

However, I see it's already been renewed for season six, despite viewership being rather low at about 2.5 million per show ... but that's not too unusual in the current climate of a zillion useless cable networks and "original" programming on services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime and Apple TV and Hallmark and GFC and HBO ... etc. Etc. Etc.
