A good start to the new series.

Jasper finds himself in a remand prison, but even on the inside, the clever criminologist finds himself investigating a murder.

I've had an on off thing with this show since it started, at times it's been very good, at times it's been a slog, but credit where it's due, this was a strong start to the new series.

It's a clever mystery, intriguing, it was always going to be interesting to learn how Jasper would be involved from behind bars.

What I thought worked really well, was seeing Jasper outside of his comfort zone, for someone so obsessed with germs and cleanliness, prison would be the most impossibly, awful environment.

I notice the surreal cutaways were absent, we didn't get to see any of those mind wanders.

Miller was excellent as always. Phil McKee was rather good as the villain behind bars.

8/10.

A spot of brother

Despite itvx releasing the whole of series 3 on the same day, we can only review this episode here.

The original Belgian series was brilliant and this translation has almost copied it but something does seem to have been lost in translation.

Admittedly s3 of the original series was darker and weak plus overtaken by political correctness but thd UK version has been like that since the beginning.

Where most of the inmates in the original were ethnic minorities, UK tv has a different agenda with most of the inmates being white as is the bad screw while the good one is black.

Hopefully, the series will improve but this just seems very stale and going through the motions.

I these modern times of cgi, it would have been better to take the original, move the mouths of the actors as if they were speaking English and dub it m as Netflix did with the English version of the recent Spanish series Berlin. It's good to see Lisa and Dan are still here as they didn't last the course in the original. At least there is stability here.

Little in the way of humour here but characters the viewer can care about and, coming from a different stable, the show has a different appearance and feel to other itv dramas (being filmed in Belgium gives it a different look).

Heir to the Throne

The third series kicks off with Professor T in custody. Taking a fall for Christina who was the one who tried to kill Lanesborough.

The fussy germophobic academic now finds his character stained. Cleanliness in prison are not up to his usual standards.

Kenny Holland a criminal that Professor T put behind bars is now looking for revenge.

Luckily for Professor T. Ex boxer Adam Bernard is also in custody at the same prison. He runs a car parts dealership with his brother.

Adam has been accused of killing a business associate who sold fake car parts.

Now Professor T finds himself having to clear Adam from his prison cell. He does not fir the personality type of a killer and Adam can protect him from Kenny Holland.

This is a lukewarm start. I would have thought given all the help he has given to the police. Professor T would had got some more protection from the prison authorities. The mystery was not that great.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched the previous two series with my late wife, didn't really like it much. Like most TV these days, man stupid, woman clever, white man bad, black man good, woman in charge.

This is so boring but I tried this first episode just in case it might have changed, but, no, it's the same old, same old. That aside there is something else that really annoyed me, when the Professor is taken to prison they take his clothes and replace them with prison gear. Remanded prisoners, that is, un-convicted prisoners, can wear their own clothes and have items they need sent it. When he has a parcel sent in they would have checked it out immediately and not waited until it was handed to him.

I have read here that the Belgian original series is much better, I am going to check it out in the hope that it doesn't tick all the boxes I mentioned earlier.

I won't be watching any more of this one.
