Ouch! My Eyes!
greenfieldpark017 March 2014
This show is really, really bad based on the first episode. It is made even worse that I had really high expectations going in to watching it. Hopefully in the coming weeks it will get better because the first episodes of shows are often just wasted setting up the characters and the stories that we will be following.

I'm a huge fan of Dave Foley and Kids in the Hall. I loved his movie The Wrong Guy and News Radio is one of my all time favourite sitcoms. I hope this show turns it around because it would be great to have him back and especially when the show is a Canadian show, because after a bunch of losers we can use another good Canadian comedy show.

This first episode was really bad though. The laugh track is just in your face and obnoxious and practically reaching out of the screen to grab you and shake you and force you to start laughing, but the show just isn't that funny.

One of the characters (J.P. Manoux?) is a complete ripoff of the dean character from Community. He is even the guy who played the Dean's lookalike in the episodes where he is replaced by the school's enemies. But it's not just the small guy who is totally bald look, it is the wardrobe and the way he talks and all of his mannerisms, it has to be an intentional ripoff of a popular character on another show.

In fact with the exception of Dave Foley and the two female characters, Dave's daughter the P.R. agent wannabe and the lead's friend/ex- girlfriend/whatever she is supposed to be, most of the actors on this show are awful. The lead character and his friend are both painful to watch and the office's weird guy who's job it is I guess is to spout out non-sequitors in a serial killer or mongoloid voice is one of the least funny characters I have seen on TV in a very long time.

All of the jokes are butchered by these actors who I'm guessing don't have much comedy experience and you can see every joke coming a mile away. With the exception of a handshake joke and a couple one liners (out of about a million of them, the show is literally packed with setup punchline jokes and one liners followed by the insane laugh track) all of the jokes fall flat on their face. There is some bad writing and or direction at play here as well so we can't blame the actors for everything.

I'm not sure what CTV is trying to do with this show or why but I'm going to give this show another chance and stick around for a few more episodes, but if it does not improve over this premiere in leaps and bounds I am going to have to yet again give up on another Canadian comedy show and just shake my head wondering how and why this had to happen.
