The Existentialist
Hitchcoc5 April 2024
Howard Suber discusses how many movies are examples of fate and/or destiny. Ultimately, the vast majority of characters never realize something that is worthwhile. It is the individual, the hero, the victim (in e cases) who assert themselves. Everyone dies at some point, but sometimes it takes the final sacrifice to make a mark. It is giving up one's self (whether in death, incarceration, or exile) for the rest of the populace. We are shown clips from films like High Noon, Apocalypse Now, and Dirty Harry, where the main character, betrayed by those he or she is protecting, walks away and doesn't look back. Of course, these are movies and in something like Thelma and Louise, the two women have been victimized throughout but have retaliated. They must do something to avoid the wrath of the male population. We all know how this ends.
