I look forward to this show every week

What an interesting premise for a show. Not only are these women committed to men in prison, but they're also from abroad. They have to navigate long distance and moving to a new country, getting a new job, dealing with their significant other navigate life outside of prison... Every week I come back trying to understand what pulls these women to want to continue dating these men. I surmise that they like the full attention that they receive that soon wanes once the men leave prison. I'm keen to find out how these relationships pan out. Of course, I'm rooting for them but also scared and certain that they won't work oit.

Warning: Spoilers
Here are the bittersweet portraits of strikingly beautiful women from places like Romania and Australia who have committed to relationships with American prisoners.

The women seem all-in but we also meet some of their parents, who range from cautiously skeptical to downright heartbroken, it appears.

One wonders what is going on psychologically with these women, who certainly look like they'd attract their share of men on the outside. But the series doesn't go there at all.

What we do get is small talk about such topics as wedding dresses and apartments. What we don't glean is any sense that these couples have the least bit in common!

The Australian is a hairdresser and we hear nothing of how her just-sprung man will earn his keep. It's incredibly idealistic.

The Romanian woman is a student in London. She's particularly made up and put together. One wonders about her dating history and what has made it so impossible to connect with a suitable guy who is free. Instead, she's planning to marry a man sentenced to 50 years!

We see her mom would like her to enjoy life and have kids. Her dad clearly doesn't want to be critical, out of fear of alienating his child, but are those tears not so far below the surface?

One wishes these women well, and certainly anticipates the next episode...

I think I get it now

This a fascinating documentary/reality show about women who become pen pals with men in prison and through the process fall in love. There are some common threads connecting all the stories. Women were going through some rough patch in life and needed a person to talk to, with complete honesty and transparency. What I assume is that they found men who, closed from the usual life in the open world, focused on their inner self and were able to be more open with their thoughts and feelings. This created a bond that was missing in normal relationships. In some way this reminds of another show called "Love is blind". What remains to be seen, how will things change once they start living together, under the pressure of the real world.
