Great episode
victorjmchristensen3 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is great - I always love it when they bring in Charlie. Also nice with the *spoiler* Wizard of Oz references, BUT, and this is something which really annoys, it might be that in the movie the slippers are red... But in the actual book, which in this episode is written by Dorothy's father, so he'd know it, the slippers are SILVER, not red (they were probably red instead of silver in the movie because the technology to have colour movies was there and they wanted to use it). When you make an episode based on a famous novel, try reading the novel first! All-in-all though a nice way to introduce a bit more into the Supernatural universe.

Slumber Party
Katz777515 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Although this episode differed from the others we are used to, it was a nice change of pace and fit right in with a Halloween theme. It had a lot of crazy comedy in it, which is expected in a Supernatural holiday themed show. There were also little bits here and there that did keep with the normal subject matter that's going on within this season's story line. It had laughter, suspense, and a bit of information we never knew before and all the action you'd expect in a Supernatural episode. Watching Crowley "Hiss" was so funny it made you want to watch the episode again and again 'cause he's so funny and a great character. Mark Sheppard is fantastic in everything he does, but as Crowley, he IS King. I like the holiday themed episodes as a break from the regular episodes and it gives them and the viewer a chance to see their less serious side and leaves you in suspense for the next episode that always goes back on track with the season's story.

Supernatural is going every where this year!
mm-391 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Supernatural is running out of ideas for season nine, and going everywhere story wise this season! Slumber Party is a mix of The Wizard of Oz meets The Blair Witch Project. Slumber Party is a silly story, and the Charlie character is reintroduced as comic relief. The Charlie character driven story is entertaining because of the acting charisma of Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Mark Sheppard (Crowly). The strong acting and directed made Slumber Party and season nine watchable. I wonder where they are going with the new character Dorothy. Is she and Charlie going to be a female hunting team? I give seven screams out of ten. Surprise there was no Halloween theme this year!

Fun episode

This is mainly to negate that ridiculous 3 rating. Plus, any episode with Charlie in it is a 10.

A campy classic-The Winchesters ARE Friends of Dorothy
CubsandCulture14 September 2020
There's a little bit of material about the ongoing plot on the season-i.e. Crowley, the angel detector, Men of Letters' history-but this largely a successful comedic episode that uses Charlie to good effect. I'm a big fan of the Oz books-along with Heinlein's the world is myth stuff-and I liked how episode very quickly re-contextualizes the books' icons; there's a few injokes if you know the books well. The actress who played Dorothy was a fun find-reminded me of Hildy in His Girl Friday.

The episode also contains the best injoke for LGBTQ fans!

Off to see the wizard...
skjoe-129 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A classic witch hunt episode, with a nice twist. This episode kicks off with a bit of history to the Men of Letters, going back to the 30's we see the first men inside the bunker. They eventually encounter a young hunter named Dorothy who has with her, a witch that needs killing. Back for this season is Charlie, I always like seeing Charlie, shes really soft, a bit ditsy and nerdy, basically the complete opposite of Sam and Dean. The boys manage to disturb a jar of strange goo which releases Dorothy and the witch loose in the Bunker. Leading into a classic hunt style episode, while the gang tries to find clues on how to kill her, we go back and forth between present day and 1935, both sides with the same goal as finding the witch's weakness. I liked the witch herself, a bit creepy, mysterious and very powerful, something episodes have been lacking lately. We also get to see Ezekiel again, this time coming forth much faster and offering direct help for Dean, however Sam is starting to notice before Ezekiel takes over, so I'm pretty sure soon he will find out. Overall this episode has a good "monster of the week" feel to it, with a nice pop culture reference and some history to the men of letters, good start to the season so far, more like this please :-)

Great Episode
amatses22 November 2013
I love it not only when they bring Charlie back, but also when they bring in outside references.

There are no spoilers in here.

This is a great episode with tons of action and humor. Has everyone in the episode but Castiel, and will keep you glued to the screen. The magic the incorporate is a little different from previous episodes but does not draw away from the excitement.

Usually i do not like the episodes that draw away from the angels vs demons theme. but they did a great job here. Hopefully in the future we will be able to get some more episodes like this

The best episode ever

Everything Supernatural should be and more. There definitely should be a spin-off for Charlie's and Dorothy's adventures in Oz!!!!

Season9,Episode 4 ... eight Only
strength01791 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What eight??

Sam, Deam, Crowly, Charlie, Dorothy, 2 letter men., and wicked witch.

It took only eight character and there were actually two lines of tales ....

I know there are many classic script with less character. But this episode is quite good.

1.extend the background of letter men. 2.try with other style and possibility of the story 3.let audience know the true feeling Sam is holding about this cave 4.Charlie is back... and gone so far. She might bring back something from the other side to save the world. (Let Winchester be saved this time.) ....... There are more...but I want to stop now.

Although the good I mention, there is still something I don't like:

Just don't use allusion like this again.

Dorothy and kill witch ??? ......Very interesting, and very not-cool.

Any girl can be named Dorothy. But THE Dorothy??? ... I totally miss the allusion in the first place. What a waste.

Boo Charlie, Yay Oz
danajs247 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this episode. It brought in a whole new realm of supernatural to the show, despite it having Charlie in it. Yuck. Charlie was rat faced as ever in this, and luckily she seems to be gone for good now! Unfortunately, I don't truly believe this, and am sure they're somehow work her back in later. The end of this episode seemed very final for her and Oz, which I hope is the case for the former and not the case for the latter, as Oz seems pretty cool in that it's a whole new dimension outside of heaven, hell, Earth, and purgatory. Plus the wicked witch was cool. And cool/uncool that Crowley was afraid of her. Cool because she's powerful, uncool because he's the king of hell and should be more powerful.

Disappointed
darkholmephone30 October 2013
There are very few episodes of supernatural I didn't enjoy.

Unfortunately this was one of them. The entire episode I had a pit in my stomach, and the thought "Oh dear god, I hope they don't keep going with this plot thread, abort, abort" kept coming to mind.

The ongoing plot stuff of the season (and the interaction between Sam, Dean, and the other recurring characters) was all that redeemed the episode. The plot of the episode itself was too campy and silly, in a show I enjoy partially because it's not overly campy like some of the other Urban Fantasy type shows.

Perhaps they were testing to take the show in a very different direction, perhaps they want to consider some kind of spin off with a very different tone. While I would love a spin off (perhaps set in the 30s, or some other time before Sam and Dean were born, dealing with some of the back-history they've established in the show >> or perhaps in current time, with ties through some of the minor characters they've introduced thus far), I'm not interested in a spin off based on the plot of this episode.

This plot would have been too campy in Dresden Files, Buffy, Angel, and Grimm, Lost Girl, and Reaper, all of which are still notably campier than Supernatural.

It felt like the writers of Charmed and *Once Upon a Time got together and wrote the most childish episode of Supernatural they could manage using the characters available, and frankly, I did not enjoy it at all.

*I don't actually mind Once Upon a Time, it's an alright show, but it does not keep my interest for long; it's a show I will watch if someone else has it playing in the background, but not a show I will actively go out of my way to watch myself. Bringing what is likely my favorite show down to "Eh, I guess I'll watch it if I can't think of anything better to do" is very much not what I want.

Painful episode.
Amthermandes10 May 2022
Full of cheesiness, more than the usual amount, and past the point of being bearable. Panders to the audience the way a kindergarten teacher panders their students with apple juice and promises of nap time.

The references are a good idea, but are poorly executed. It's not a fun episode at all, and there aren't any surprises either.

I can look past the horrible CGI, but everything else was predictable, cringe-worthy, and just BAD. The acting especially was horrible from EVERYBODY. Just an off day for the boys I guess.
