Pity Asner, MacLeod and even Amos Couldn't Come On Board
richard.fuller18 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If for no other reason than because the show was so limited in time (sitcoms today barely run 20 minutes without commercials) and clearly any audience would love to see the 5 for the entire program.

Asner and MacLeod could have easily appeared as one of the three ladies' dates (George Hamilton did show up as one of them), but then that would have been no fun not seeing them out with the 5.

Leachman was allowed a little leeway as Phyllis was so tightly wound.

Since White and Engels are show regulars, this left any sort of 'plot' up to Moore and Harper as bitter rivals from the old bowling team days and so we could see them interact again as well.

The most dominant factor would have been Phyllis and Rhoda's feud, but that would have shut Mary out completely, so thankfully the show didn't focus on doing that again.

Essentially, Mary and Rhoda were where it all began.

There are endless references to the old show, with Mary having the smile and she made it after all.

A Real Swan Song For MTM
DKosty1231 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode turned out to be Mary Tyler Moore last TV episode. With Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman added to Betty White and Georgia Engel it's a neat reunion. Mary is only shown sitting at a table in a restaurant due to her health issues but proves she can still deliver a punch line with the rest of them.

This episode is very funny and like most episodes a little wild. The writing on this series is good as it does continue story lines from previous shows. The really touching moment for MTM fans is at the end when the camera pans to a cat in the window that Meows just like the old MTM production symbol. It is a shame that the entire cast never really got together for a reunion, but Ted Knight left little time for that to happen.

So this episode of the main women getting together for one last hurrah is the mirror we get to look into, long after and we realize they made it after all, referred to in many references on this episode.

Classic Sitcom and an MTM Reunion!!!
lconnolly-827117 July 2023
Big fan of the Mary Tyler Moore show and so many great spinoffs. The talent and timing of these ladies always put a smile on your face at any time in their careers.

This episode reunites a group of excellent funny actresses for the first time!!! With so many of SITCOM's 'first ladies of funny' together on one episode...amazing...the one liners and references to prior Sitcoms are everywhere...even the ending is an homage but I won't spoil it, you have to watch it!

As a plus, it is the season's 'annual' birthdate episode so expect a number of guest appearances as well as great work from the series wonderful leads.

Must see TV for any true Sitcom fan!
