**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I had mentioned in a previous review that the season one finale of "Liv and Maddie" was far beyond outstanding, but at least two of the episodes leading up to it were pretty damn good too.
A former "Sing It Loud" cast member of Liv's named South Salamanca comes to visit the Rooney, and Liv wants to make a good impression. Maddie is a bit uneasy about doing so because she thinks the girl is a little too full of herself, and Parker actually wants to win her over as a potential girlfriend. Maddie, who is trying to keep her relationship with Diggie a secret, wants him to try to be friendly towards South, which turns out to be a big mistake, because it seems like they're getting TOO friendly. Maddie tries to get Liv to tell her ex-co-star not to get so close to him, but Liv urges her twin sister to publicly admit that the two of them are girlfriend and boyfriend.
Meanwhile Pete and Karen are about to attend Pete's 25th High Schol Reunion, and Joey and his nerdy rival Artie are lured by an elaborate urban legend at school about some key that will give the finder excessive amounts of power, which they can only seek if they assist all the grown-ups at their high school reunion. Karen doesn't seem that worried that "Prime Time Pete" was the Big Man On Campus back in the day... until she meets his old high school girlfriend played by Marla Maples, and suddenly becomes afraid she may lose him to the girl.
The scene where Joey spots his mother nervously chomping on a bucket of ice while he chases Artie in a battle for the key of power has to be one of the most touching scenes of the series. Because he reminds her that his father could've chosen the blonde bombshell who used to be a swimsuit model and used the money from that to pay her way through medical school, but instead chose her. Kali Rocha co-wrote this episode along with Johnathan McClain, and it makes me wonder if she wrote that part.
Of course, the show is called "Liv and Maddie," not "The Rooney Family." So needless to say, it has at least one of those characters facing the same issues. As I mentioned earlier, Maddie gets a little too jealous of Liv's ex-co-star, and Parker gets jealous of Diggie. Once again as we saw in "Twin-A-Rooney" and "Switch-A-Rooney," we see one of the twins trying to impersonate the other with less than desirable results, but nevertheless a desirable outcome. Sweet for both the kids and adults, but more for the kids.
