Bloody Disgusting has learned the sad news this week that Waxwork (1988) director Anthony Hickox, who was prolific in the ’80s and ’90s, has passed away at the age of 64 years old.
Deadline reports, “Hickox had spent his recent years in Romania, where police found him dead last week at his house in Bucharest after friends had reported not seeing him for some time, according to close friend and InterTalent Rights Group CEO Jonathan Shalit.”
In addition to Waxwork, a favorite among the staff here at Bloody Disgusting, Anthony Hickox also directed the film’s only sequel, Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992).

Although they’ve never really been seriously considered by official voters, The Go-Go’s are your favorites for 2021 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They received 20% of the vote in our recent poll asking which snubbed band most deserves to be chosen to be inducted. Melissa Etheridge was tops in our separate poll about overlooked female artists. Look out for our poll featuring male artists soon.
The all-female group from the 1980s originally was started by Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Elissa Bello and Margot Olavarria. Other members who would most likely receive induction would be Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine and Paula Jean Brown. They beat out Duran Duran with 13% and The B-52’s with 11%.
At the delayed 2020 induction ceremony for the Hof, bands Depeche Mode, Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T-Rex are finally getting their due.

At the delayed 2020 induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, bands Depeche Mode, Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T-Rex are finally getting their due. Each of them waited a while to get in, so which other snubbed bands should be strongly considered for 2021? Vote in our new poll below which features 12 artists.
At the previous 2019 ceremony, voters also saw that long-overlooked bands The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music and The Zombies finally got their due. With five to eight artists going in each year, bands seem to be the most populous. Male artists also have a fairly easy time getting in, but critics often complain about the lack of female artists being inducted. Our most recent poll results about female artists cried out for Melissa Etheridge to make the cut in 2021. Watch out soon when we have a poll about male artists.

They say you should never meet your heroes. But there are childhood heroes, and then there’s Amy Jo Johnson, the It Girl and the hero to practically every child who grew up during the 1990s. Johnson’s character of Kimberly Hart, aka the Pink Power Ranger on the kid’s television show “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” changed the landscape. It wasn’t just that she was peppy, bubbly, and a gymnast with the ability to kick butt. Johnson made the character relatable. She represented femininity in a way that seemed like someone you knew.
In the last few years Johnson became a director, fueled by the “Power Rangers” fandom. Her first feature, 2017’s “The Space Behind,” secured funding through an IndieGoGo campaign sponsored by her fans over the years. “I raised the money by the support of these kids who are now adults who have just followed me on my ride through…...

Trainee chef Mirko Piras in ‘Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution’.
Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution is the first feature documentary to be granted the status of an Australian-Italian official co-production. Since a special treaty with Rome was signed in 1993, there has been only one previous Australian co-production with Italy – the 2015 drama, The Space Between. But our project didn’t start out that way. All film financing is like a roll of the dice. You never know what numbers will come up.
Commissioned by the Melbourne International Film Festival’s Premiere Fund, this feature length disability rights documentary tells the story of an inspirational chef, Antonio de Benedetto, who is on a quest to change the world with his delicious Italian food.

Does fate dictate our life, or do we make our own fate with each of our choices?
On The Bold Type Season 4 Episode 8, when Scarlet brought in a new astrologer, everyone found themselves trying to decide when to let the universe take over, and when to take matters into their own hands.
Join us as we discuss how perfect timing, bold moves, and swallowed pride lead our favorite characters exactly where they needed to be.
This episode had me a mess on multiple fronts, but let’s at least talk about the good that came out of it first before I dive into my turmoil.

Horror movies that trap a character or group of characters in one confined location can be quite effective in the right hands, and two of the best recent examples are Adam Green’s Frozen and Rodrigo Cortes’ Buried. It’s quite impressive to see what a filmmaker can do with such a limited set of resources, and both Green and Cortes pulled incredible amounts of suspense out of premises that seemed destined to sink. As for Steven C. Miller’s attempt to do the same, well, it just kind of sinks.
Written by Scott Milam and directed by Miller (Silent Night), Submerged centres on a group of young characters who are quite literally trapped in a limousine at the bottom of a canal.

Want to see Nicolas Cage play another crazy character? He plays a ruthless crime lord in a new film called Arsenal, and as you'll see in this first trailer, he completely transformed himself for the role. He's not as recognizable as he usually is. The action thriller also stars John Cusack and Entourage star Adrian Grenier. It's a pretty good cast for such a mediocre looking film. Maybe it will end up being better than this trailer makes it out to be.
Arsenal tells the intertwining stories of the Lindel brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and Jp (Grenier), who had only each other to rely on growing up. As adults, Jp found success as the owner of a construction company, while Mikey became a small-time mobster, mired in a life of petty crime. When Mikey is kidnapped and held for a ransom by ruthless crime boss Eddie King (Cage), Jp turns...

Bruce Willis has been “too old for this shit” since he starred in “Die Hard” when he was 33. Steely-eyed apathy has always been his brand — he’s not giving a great performance unless it feels like he and his titanic hangover would rather be literally anywhere else on Earth. He’s not Bruce Willis because he looked like a badass when he was killing his rapist with a samurai sword in “Pulp Fiction,” he’s Bruce Willis because he pulled it off while managing to spend all of his other scenes in that movie looking like he was vaguely mad at us for encouraging his career.
Weary disinterest was his way of letting audiences know that he cared. Unfortunately for Willis, that dynamic has resulted in a dire consequence: Viewers are so attuned to his careful and considered strain of weariness that it’s blindingly obvious when he actually phones something in,...

As Nicolas Cage battles his antagonistic side in his upcoming thriller, famed producer Steven Saxton is also contending with his own personal ‘Southern Fury.’ The drama, which is being directed by ‘Submerged‘ helmer Steven C. Miller, has landed Saxton as one of its executive producers. ‘Southern Fury’ was penned by Jason Mosberg in his feature film writing debut. In addition to Cage, who plays the villain, the Dixie-set mob movie also features Adrian Grenier and Johnathan Shaech. John Cusack also stars as a police officer in the thriller. Before signing on to executive produce ‘Southern Fury,’ Saxton recently received acclaim for his work on such films as ‘Lone Survivor,’ ‘2 [ Read More ]

Submerged is a nifty little kitchen-sink thriller that crawls deep under your skin, much like a Pandora’s Box of phobias ripe for the prodding. Not only do a group of teens find themselves trapped inside a sealed limousine, but said vehicle is resting silently on the bottom of a deep canal. Oh, and hitmen wait above the water for their targets to eventually surface, because who doesn’t dig some batshit overkill? Scott Milam is a proper bastard for capturing all my recurring nightmares in one suffocating script, and Steven C. Miller earns the same pale-faced praise for bringing them to life in this air-tight terror. Yes – armed divers and all.
Everything begins underwater, but it’s not long before flashbacks offer background information and better times. Matt (Jonathan Bennett), who comes-to behind the limo’s wheel, reveals himself to be an ex-solider who serves as bodyguard for a wealthy businessman’s family.

Don’t you hate it when you leave a party only to have your souped-up limousine run off the road by kidnappers, plunging you into what surely appears to be a watery tomb? I know, sounds like my Tuesday night – or the latest screenplay from Mother’s Day scribe Scott Milam. Directed by Steven C. Miller (Under The Bed/Silent Night), Submerged traps a group of partiers underwater in a leaking limo, showing their fight for survival as some nasty baddies attempt to finish the job even quicker. Sounds crazy, right? Well, since today saw the release of the very first trailer, you can determine just How crazy it is for yourself.
Starring Jonathan Bennet, Giles Matthey, Tim Daley, Mario Van Peebles, and a slew of fresh faces, Submerged seems to blend elements of action and horror – which is something director Steven C. Miller is used to doing after 2012′s The Aggression Scale.
