Silly Attitudes
claudio_carvalho13 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After the autopsy of Captain Redfern and destroy his body, Jim confesses to Eph and Nora what he did with the box. Ansel takes an ultimate decision to protect his family. Eph and Nora decide to visit Arnot and they are attacked by Emma. But Setrakian arrives and saves them. Nora has a strange reaction for a scientist.

"It's Not for Everyone" shows Eph teaming-up with Setrakian and the silly attitude of Nora. Ansel feels the only way to protect his family but the attitude of his wife Ann-Marie is absurd. The other segments are filler only. My vote is seven.

Good solid episode...except for some flaws
Brettyboy0076 August 2014
Episode 4 of The Strain continued the story lines from episode 3. Eph, Nora, and Jim investigate the body of the pilot..with unexpected discoveries. Ansel is still struggling from becoming a full fledged vampire. We also see Gus again and his family.

The episode built on from episode 3. The only things I didn't like was I really want them to advance more on Gus's story. This may be partly due to be having read a lot of the first book and more on Gus's story. It just seems slow on the show with his friend and him meeting those guys for the Mercedes SUV.

I also am annoyed with Nora's character. Let me just say this episode broke away her character from how she is in the book. She joins with Eph and Abraham. She does not appear scared, but her character in the show is just weird.

I am excited for Sunday's episode. From the previews, it look like we'll get some Abraham back story.

It's not for everyone indeed

Warning: Spoilers
Nora and Eph did part ways with Jim after he admitted he helped the Germans with clearing the coffin from the airport. The pawnshop owner beheaded the little girl and her father with his silver sword and Nora left as she couldn't bear it. They autopsied the pilot in the basement and it was really good to see a vampire getting dissected. Ansel chained himself in the shed to save his family from himself and his wife fed him with one of their neighbors. And the Germans are having a young woman mess up the Internet speed so that no one can communicate thru it.

Sweet Episode [8.5/10]

Warning: Spoilers
Reaction / Review for The Strain Season 1 Episode 4: Episode 3 was great and I gave it a rating of 8.8/10. I hope this is as good as episode 3. Wow the tongues of these things are super long, disgusting. I knew this guy Ansel would kill the dog. I kinda feel bad about Jim, all he wanted was to help his wife. Gus doesn't wanna go back in jail but he steals a car? Very smart guy. Ansel's wife is nuts, she let that guy for Ansel to drink his blood. The little girl looks so freaky. Yes some action with Setrakian, exactly what I needed! Overall this was a pretty good episode, and my rating is... 8.5/10.

Decent but bad characterisation for Nora
jj_63798 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A good episode nearly ruined by bad characterisation. We see a bit more of other characters like boxer Gus and ratcatcher Vasily and how the surviving victims are progressing. The main action with Captain Redfern was good, giving more info on the infected and what's happening to them.

But I found Nora's behaviour regarding Emma Arnot as baffling and unbelievable, and it nearly ruined the episode for me. She's an experienced CDC doctor and has just autopsied the Captain and seen he's not human anymore. Yet she talks about Setrakian "murdering" infected victims and becoming hysterical and crying just because Emma's a child and Setrakian killed her?

Seriously!?
debracurle4 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The 2 main characters are supposed to be CDC doctors. They proceeded to do an autopsy on a guy who is clearly infected with something, without wearing any PPE other than gloves and gowns. No face shields or eye protection, no hazmat suits, no breathing protection - nada. I wear more PPE just cleaning the bathroom! Beyond stupid.
