Fun show that takes a lot of elements from Survivalism TV and makes it great
warlord5 October 2015
This show immediately became a favorite of our household to watch. The fun the group has at each others expense even if scripted shows they are genuinely having a great time and this chemistry isn't found often.

The challenges they each get put in are sometimes comical to simply possibly deadly. While we get some humor along the way reality has a quick way of coming back in and reminding you the gravity of the situations when you make a poor choice.

Hopefully as they progress forward they can find new and more interesting challenges to keep them running strong and showing us what it can be like.

love the show, with 1 exception

great show, my only problem is with Jake. while he may be tough as nails, he is a danger to himself, and to others. his competitive side gets the best of him, and as a result, he makes potentially deadly mistakes. His performance in the desert would have cost him his life if the team hadn't stepped in when they did. I also dislike the way he tries to make the other players fail, when in fact, he should be rooting for them to succeed. I hope he gets his priorities straight, and improves as a player, and particularly as a team player. I enjoy learning from these guys, and wish them all well, including Jake. He seems to be a nice guy, just a little too competitive for his own good. I look forward to many more episodes to come

A very extreme show.
Scral90006 January 2014
This show is a show about a bunch of big army type guys that go and do really extreme things and survive in extreme situations and never even get upset or cry about it because they are so big and tough. It is really extreme. The first episode was a bit bad but if you watch a few episodes then it is less bad. This show is very extreme and is not for the faint of heart. Only big tough men and tough people can watch it. It displays a wide range of survivalist skills and FATAL MISTAKES. It shows the group bonding together in survivalist endeavors but the start is a bit cheesy and the end is a bit cheesy. All of the events in the show are possibly fake and not entirely true. All of the participants have different types of education in survival and stuff including a primitive guy, green hat man, navy otter and royal airplane citizen and a native American.

Good fun, bad survival, nice guys, fake Colonel
mykelhawke19 August 2018
I enjoyed the camaraderie of the show very much, but the survival was not truthful and the entire show was so produced that none of the scenarios were remotely possible.

But mainly, I was really put off by the Fake Colonel Moore Character. Being a survivalist, veteran and host myself, I like to do my due diligence.

I found Moore had put himself in to be a "Kentucky Colonel" back when you could "self-submit". Their rules clearly say it is fraudulent to hold the rank out as real.

Yet, Thomas more, uses the rank to fool folks into donating money to fund his trips abroad to other countries known for unsavory practices.

I did a FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) request on Moore and his actual military record was far from stellar, and explains why he misleads with his 'honorary' rank.

Moore served a few years on active duty on the 70's and he tried out for Special Forces and failed.

He quit the military then joined the reserves a decade later for a few years in the 80's and again, he quit and left for a decade.

Then after failing in civilian world again, Moore joined the Guard. Again he served only a few years, then quit and his record shows he did attend a few schools, but never anything elite or survival.

The most concerning fact is that he never obtained a rank higher than Specialist, and that he did something bad that warranted them to reduce his rank, usually, as the result of a court martial.

The bottom line is that Thomas Moore has a very checkered and inglorious past, and he managed to dupe KY into an honorary title which he has subsequently used to sell books and solicit funds, for what appears to be, less than honorable activities in under developed nations.

Fake but fun anyway

Warning: Spoilers
I know I will offend some of you by saying that if you actually believe these shows are 'real' then you don't understand what 'reality show' means. It's hidden in the phrase right at the end - it's a SHOW.

Almost all of these episodes have dire predictions about the certain loss the current survivalist is facing right up to the point they miraculously stumble across someone who always counts as 'civilization'. And during these 100 hours of exertion they always do so time-consuming irrelevant survivalist crap that (1) takes them no closer to a win and (2) does not involve gathering food or finding and purifying water. And they're supposed to be experts??

But one thing they do well - they made me laugh. They're always ragging on one another - that's exactly what men do, so that alone made it worth watching. The second reason to watch is to spot the stupid crap they do and the unlikely endings. And though they even admit the correct thing to do in certain situations is to build a signal fire, in 2 situtations perfect for a signal fire THEY DON'T BUILD ONE. Nope, both do incredibly dumb alternatives both of which could have been deadly - but it's a SHOW!

Oh yeah, here's a major stupidity - they supposedly hunt their victim down at the beginning (everyone is aware it will happen, by the way) and when they 'capture' him they half-heartedly search him and amazingly the victim ALWAYS has something useful on him that they missed. After the first time you'd think a REAL show about survival would have them forcing the victim to shed all of his clothes, undergo a metal detector scan and a rectal exam, then clothe him in an orange jumpsuit so he can't smuggle anything in - but it's a SHOW so they don't.

Spoiler - everyone starves and most get little water. If you want to see an expert do the same, watch "Survivorman" who does so from 7 to 10 days. That dude, Les Stroud, over and over again proves how hard it is to 'live off of nature' because he almost is always starving and weakened when he's picked up. But at least he actually shows some valid pointers about how to stay alive long enough to be rescued.

The dunce cap award
ralabelle14 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Matt dropped in Tanzania. The show gets off to a silly start. A foot chase through town?? Who writes this stuff?

Then the drop. He's left with arrow making material and no bowe and then the absolute silliest scene with a helicopter and silly tease. Show Matt the bowe and take it away and put it on a hilltop to make Matt waste time to go a fetch it???? Jake! This has to be the dumbest/corniest/stupidest thing I've ever seen. Ok Jake, you get the dunce cap to wear and you absolutely earned it. If you can't be clever, then just show us you have zero imagination. Yeah, that worked for you didn't it?

Stupid dumb show
MovieMaster013 October 2019
This has nothing to do with surviving extreme situations. There were some OK episodes but most of them felt so fake and stupid. Like flying from California to Finland with a chopper... Or saying that if anyones body temperature falls below 96,6 they are thrown out from the challenge but surprisingly it always stops going down after 96,7.

Lots of potential, ruined by one cast member
PhilOttawa26 June 2023
This show is mostly entertaining and has a fun premise, but is totally ruined by one aspect.

The cast consists of accomplished survivalist types who provide some decent commentary while they watch their friend struggle to get out of a particular survival scenario/location and find civilization with 100 hours.

Sounds decent enough. But there is one major exception: Jake Zweig.

Jake is entirely inarticulate, reckless and a flat out jerk. He goes above and beyond to be as abrasive and unpleasant as possible, while adding nothing of substance whatsoever. And the best part? He is by far the worst of all of the survivalists, totally out of shape, and completely out of his league compared to the others' knowledge.

I watched several episodes and enjoyed a lot of what it offered, but I just couldn't stomach him any more.
