Credit: Aj Pics / 20th Century Fox/ Alamy Stock Photo When Cary Elwes was cast in The Princess Bride, his acting portfolio consisted primarily of a few British art house films, none of which had been very successful at the box office. So he was pleasantly surprised when he won the role of Westley — even more so once he knew that he’d been director Rob Reiner’s choice from the very beginning. We’ve spoken to Elwes many times over the course of his career, and he’s always looked back at The Princess Bride as a turning point in his career — so much so, he even wrote a book about making the movie. And Elwes says he will always be grateful for the opportunity that changed his life. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 4
If there’s one thing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is trying to make clear, it’s that hanging out in the Star Trek universe isn’t safe. While The Next Generation and Voyager may have had the reputation for looking and feeling a little too cozy, Strange New Worlds continues the grittier vibe from Discovery, which also references the rough-and-tumble nature of The Original Series.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode 4, “Memento Mori,” is its darkest episode yet, with a ton of nods to The Original Series, the classic films, and an interesting sideways nod to Lower Decks. Here’s every Easter egg and reference we caught while the Enterprise faced off with the Gorn for the first time…

In the 1970s and 1980s director Brian De Palma had some high profile hits with Hitchcockian thrillers such as "Sisters", "Obsession", "Dressed to Kill", "Blow Out" and "Body Double". De Palma's defenders extolled the virtues of these films as clever homages to Hitchcock while detractors accused De Palma of using The Master's formulas to make a fast buck. In 1982 director Robert Benton jumped on the same bandwagon with his own Hitchcockian project, "Still of the Night", which was shot under the title "Stab" before the marketing campaign had been re-evaluated. A few years earlier Benton had triumphed at the Oscars with "Kramer vs. Kramer", taking home the Best Director Oscar. That film also provided an important career boost for Meryl Streep, who also won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The two were reunited for this project which stands out on both of their credentials as an odd choice.

Chicago – When an interview opportunity comes up with Wallace Shawn, and it lasts more than 15 minutes, a conversation can be born. In our own version of “My Dinner with Andre,” I got an expansion with the actor, writer and one of the most famous dinner guests in cinema history (he is the “My” in “My Dinner … “ ).
Wallace Shawn’s story begins in New York City, where he was born the son of journalist Cecille Lyon and William Shawn, the longtime editor of the New Yorker magazine. After doing his undergrad at Harvard and post-grad work at Oxford, he eschew his philosophy and political studies to translate a play for a friend. He also had a role in the play, and his future was determined.

Chicago – The distinctive voice and presence of Wallace Shawn has been in the show business firmament for over 40 years. From his legacy film “My Dinner with Andre” through cultural icon in “The Princess Bride” to “Young Sheldon,” Wally Shawn has endured and prospered. He stars as the title character in “Rifkin’s Festival, opening January 28th, 2022.
Wallace Shawn is Mort Rifkin, a struggling novelist who used to be a film studies professor. Through his academia he met and married Sue (Gina Gershon), a movie publicist who saw potential in his literary pursuit. She is representing a hot young director at the famous San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, and takes Mort along for the ride. The ex-professor doesn’t like modern cinema, and distracts himself by pursuing a local cardiologist (Elena Anaya) and creating dreams and fantasies from his film heroes.

This is a pivotal moment in Nicolas Cage’s career. Once a gold-plated blockbuster icon, he crashed to Earth many years ago in a flurry of financial mismanagement and poor career choices. You just have to look at his IMDb page for proof of the latter. Did you watch Inconceivable? Mom and Dad? Southern Fury? Vengeance: A Love Story? The Humanity Bureau? The film’s producer Louis Nero told TheWrap that Dunaway (not pictured above) has joined the cast, which also includes Diego Casale, Stefania Rocca, Robert Davi and Franco Nero, who both stars in and directs “The Man Who Drew God.”

From British nobility to posh schoolboy to glam rocker to addict to actor and everything in between, Michael Des Barres has lived more than his share of lifetimes — an existence perhaps best exemplified by his hit 1983 song, “Obsession.”
Rolling Stone has an exclusive acoustic performance of the song Friday, an outtake from Des Barres’ recent documentary, Michael Des Barres: Who Do You Want Me To Be?, directed by J. Elvis Weinstein.
“That clip was supposed to be the climax — which is my favorite word — of the film,” Des Barres tells Rolling Stone.

Becoming Iconic
One thing one learns very quickly as a film journalist is that it's impossible to please everybody. One's first duty has to be to the truth as one sees it; then to the readers; then to the wider industry. With this in mind, it's impossible to go back and change reviews if filmmakers are unhappy about them. But we strive to be fair, so when Inconceivable director Jonathan Baker got in touch to say he was unhappy about my review of Becoming Iconic, a film about filmmaking, his career and the people who inspired him, I offered him the chance to talk about it and put his side of the story. I began by asking him how the project began.

MaryAnn’s quick take… A brilliant, if demented, concept could have been The Purge for parenthood, but it is inadequately explored, and then abruptly dropped by a sudden ending. The entire third act of the film is missing. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films is being sued by its Inconceivable co-producers for fraudulently inducing a $1 million investment, which it has yet to repay.
Jonathan Baker claims Randall Emmett told him if he agreed to co-finance and produce Inconceivable he'd return the favor by co-financing and producing a film of Baker's choosing.
Almost immediately after the funds were deposited, Baker claims, defendants paid themselves $650,000 more in producer fees than was agreed upon and failed to disclose the payment. Baker also claims defendants breached their deal by accepting additional financing from third parties and allowing those parties to be repaid first.

No less than two Oscar winners are hopelessly adrift in Jonathan Baker’s low-rent thriller that feels so much like a parody of a Lifetime television movie it should have starred Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. Indeed, this film feels so similar to the 2015 spoof A Deadly Adoption that featured those comic performers that it’s hard to know where one ends and the other begins. In any case, the aptly titled Inconceivable is something that both Nicolas Cage and Faye Dunaway will want to leave off their filmographies, and at this point that’s saying something.

Inconceivable Release Details: Press Release: "Los Angeles, June 22, 2017 -- As its June 30 theatrical and digital release approaches, actor/director/producer Jonathan Baker reflects on the theme of his film, which, safe to say, is an entertaining thriller with a cautionary message: if you’re thinking about IVF, surrogate motherhood or even just hiring a child minder, be careful. Rather like Jaws’ tagline, “You’ll never go in the water again,” after seeing Inconceivable, you just might want to think twice before leaving your child alone with a stranger, even as attractive and seductive one as Inconceivable star Nicky Whelan.
Baker cites nanny, surrogacy and IVF programs gone wrong when he talks about why he chose to do the film. “The movie is about a couple and their journey though In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), surrogate motherhood and a vindictive nanny. IVF is a topic that can be taboo, even in the USA. In addition to entertaining the audience, I wanted to shed light on this subject—which affects so many couples—in an open forum to help dispel the secrecy and even shame surrounding this topic. The film provides the space for a real problem to play out (in an admittedly extreme way) in a fictional world. There are many people who want children that need the help, and this film strings viewers along for their struggle, but in a very different, arguably darker, way.”
“While the film at first focuses on IVF, the focus naturally dips into surrogate motherhood as it becomes the route used to solve the couple [played by Nicolas Cage and Gina Gershon]’s infertility,” Baker continues. “But is the surrogate mother potentially signing her unborn child’s life away? For the average couple, surrogacy does not connect with losing a child; however this thriller is all about exploring that fear. Allowing a stranger into your world can be frightening in itself, but such vulnerability is amplified with surrogacy. The film proves that IVF and surrogacy can create a dangerous cocktail of tension, paranoia, and fear that can destroy a family.”
Deception doesn’t always come from where you expect it to; sometimes it comes from your most trusted nanny as seen with Inconceivable. When a stranger is in the home, it is natural to fear something might go wrong. Such incidents have been widely broadcast in cases such as with Gwen Stefani, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Balthazar Getty, among others. Isn’t it weird that we trust strangers with our most prized possessions: children? I wanted to combine these topics to bring these fears to the screen, because fear is what gets people talking. Through discussion, society can better address such topics.
Overall, my goal for this film was to make something that matters and really hits home with people. Infertility is a harsh reality for many prospective parents, and I wanted to help contribute to such an important dialogue as this.
I want my movie to bring the topics out of hiding and into open discussion. That’s why ‘deception hits home’ is such a fraught tag line for the movie.”

Missing an opportunity to use the title The Evil Nanny Diaries, the upcoming Inconceivable is more than just an opportunity to use a Wallace Shawn voice when saying the name. The movie is also a mini Face/Off reunion, and while we’d all like to see Nicolas Cage and John Travolta go bonkers together again, this one puts Cage back together with the delightful Gina Gershon as a couple who have seen their efforts to make a bigger family thwarted. Instead, Gershon’s mother befriends Katie (Nicky Whelan), a young woman with a daughter the same age as Gershon’s child. And it’s not long before Katie and her kid have moved into the guest house, with the new resident becoming the live-in nanny for Cage and Gershon’s daughter.

"The last thing I want is for her to question either one of us." Lionsgate Premiere has debuted an official trailer for a film titled Inconceivable, the latest paycheck feature for Nicolas Cage. This miserable-looking family drama is about a small family with one child who invites a mysterious, beautiful single mom to be their nanny. She joins their family and begins a new relationship with them, but it doesn't take long for them to discover she is actually trying to destroy their family from within. Nicolas Cage stars, along with Gina Gershon, Nicky Whelan, Faye Dunaway, Natalie Eva Marie, and James Van Patten. This looks as terrible as it sounds, without any redeeming qualities. Plus it just feels like an even-worse knock off of Unforgettable. Please stop making these kind of movies. We really don't need any more wasting screens. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jonathan Baker's Inconceivable,...

Every time Nicolas Cage appears in another barely-released, cheapo movie, the question runs through our heads: what Won’T Nicolas Cage do? Well, we came across the answer recently: a quality TV show. The debut of Bryan Fuller’s very good “American Gods” reminded us that late last year, Cage gave an interview to the La Times where he revealed that he’d been offered the role of Mr.
