Dough: A weak addition to Screamfest
Platypuschow26 July 2018
I'm fairly new to Screamfest though I really do enjoy horror shorts, alas not so much this one.

Fresh off the enjoyable Tinglewood (2009) we have Dough which tells the story of a runaway girl who seeks refuge in a secluded house only to find out that it's apparent single occupier has a terrible secret.

Sadly this secret isn't exactly shocking stuff and the revelation is as hard hitting as a fart in a thunderstorm.

Standing at around the 20 minute mark it does successfully manage to tell a story with a suitable beginning, middle and an end but not one of those phases is even remotely horrific nor entertaining.

I question whether this should have been entered at all to be fair, horror? I'd lean more to thriller, one of those less than thrilling thrillers.

Binge watching Screamfest? Worth a view, outside of that not so much.

The Good:

Looks the part

The Bad:

Underwhelming plot

Things I Learnt From This Short:

I could have bought a lot of Pop Vinyl figures for the cost of this nonsense!

the atmosphere

It is a good choice for old fashion stories, in the manner of "Jane Eyre", with few traits of Gothic classic stories. Because the atmosphere is more important than the story. Because it is a new exercise about a young woman looking for refuge, hospitality and dark secret, noble gesture and pragmatic option. Nothing original but correct. The only problem - the director seems not interesed for have the attention of its public. All seems a not bad construction without any real source of emotion .
