Actress Mrunal Thakur recalled shooting for the dance number, ‘Kudiye Ni Teri Vibe’ from the movie ‘Selfiee’ featuring Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty, and Nushrratt Bharuccha.

She became a star in Slumdog Millionaire – before being cast in a string of regrettable roles. Now she’s in a brutal sex-trafficking drama and speaking out about skin lightening and shortsighted directors
Freida Pinto’s role in her new film Love Sonia is shocking. She plays a desperate sex worker in a brutal tale of trafficking. Rashmi is complex, edgy and selfish – everything you wouldn’t expect of a Pinto character. After all, the Indian actor, who made her name in Danny Boyle’s phenomenally successful Slumdog Millionaire, has spent much of her career playing eye candy. And she is sick of it.
Love Sonia is relentless. A debt-ridden father sells his teenage daughter Preeti to a landlord, who then trafficks her to a brothel in Mumbai. Her sister Sonia, brilliantly played by newcomer Mrunal Thakur, goes in search of her, and is also ensnared in the trafficking web.

With Asia representing a whopping 65% of the earth’s population, it’s small wonder that the continent’s film industries are becoming more influential on the world stage. By some measures, China’s rising box office numbers have already surpassed those of the U.S., and India’s film business is the world’s largest by number of films produced.
That’s why the mission of the Asian World Film Festival, which is to strengthen ties between the Asian and Hollywood film industries, is critical to establishing avenues of communication between filmmakers and film executives in the U.S. and in Asia.

It has been a busy 2018 for award-winning Indian actor Manoj Bajpayee. He featured in smash Bollywood hits “Baaghi 2” and “Satyameva Jayate,” and in acclaimed independent films “In the Shadows,” “Missing” and “Love Sonia.” Bajpayee stars in and is a co-producer on “Bhonsle,” which had its world premiere at Busan Oct. 5 and is a nominee for the Kim Ji-seok Award.
In “Bhonsle,” directed by Devashish Makhija (whose “Ajji” played Busan in 2017), Bajpayee plays a reclusive Mumbai policeman who stands up against divisive factions. It is the actor’s third film in recent years at the festival after “Aligarh” in 2015 and “In the Shadows” in 2017. For Bajpayee, wearing the twin hats of an actor and a producer has been a balancing act. In the case of “Bhonsle,” he had to step in as a producer when existing producers backed out.

Love Sonia had its world premier in London 21st June 2018 and a selection of the actors, actresses, and the director himself were on hand to answer questions about the film.
The core of the movie is its desire to shed light on sex trafficking and how this illegal trade operates, often in plain sight.
Richa Chadda, who plays a prostitute called Madhuri, warned people that you might think this is a problem that is miles away but we live in bubbles, unaware of what’s happening right around the corner. The cast were emphatic that the movie would make a difference.
More than one mentioned how it was very lucky to be working on such a sensitive project and hoped that “Love Sonia” would help save those being taken and abused. Sonia herself, played by Mrunal Thakur, hoped that the movie would help remind people who worthy they were.

The London Indian Film Festival began its 2018 run with the world premier of Love Sonia, a challenging movie directed by Tabrez Noorani and centred around the menace which illegal sex trafficking causes around the globe. It’s a topic which many might like to sweep under the carpet and pretend doesn’t happen in their neighbourhood, but that is a complacency which this film dispels.
The story follows Sonia and her sister Preeti as they go from humble beginnings hundreds of kilometres north of Mumbai, living on a farm with their parents, to being dragged into a dark world where they are nothing but a commodity for those who would use and abuse them. Preeti is older and, according to her father, prettier whilst poor Sonia is called a “bull” and chastised for buying lightening cream. However, the girls dream of getting married and going to Mumbai when they grow older.

This year saw the London Indian Film Festival begin its run in style, with a world premier in the centre of London. The opening movie was Love Sonia and it was shown to maximum effect on the Superscreen at the Cineworld cinema in Leicester Square.
The converted theatre has been the location for many a premier in the past and a warm evening welcomed the star-studded line up, which included the director, actors and actresses from the film, along with producers and directors of this and other films appearing during the Film Festival.
The red carpet had been set up inside, but despite this there were still a lot of well-wishers and those craning their necks, with their cameraphones, to get a shot of their favourite celebrity. A bustling and excited crowd watched as sharp suits and gorgeous dresses posed for pictures. Even Mrunal Thakur, who is more used to starring in Indian soap operas,...

Freida Pinto has inked a deal to board Guerrilla, the six-part miniseries setting up shop at Showtime.
Written, directed and executive produced by John Ridley, Pinto will star opposite Idris Elba as Jas Mitra, the female lead in a series that has been pitched as a love story set against one of the most politically volatile periods in UK history. The role of her significant other, Marcus, is yet to be filled.
Coming together to form a radical underground cell in 1970s London, Guerrilla sees the impassioned couple stage a revolt that places the proverbial crosshairs on the Black Power Desk, a true-life counter-intelligence unit founded on the basis of crushing any and all forms of black activism.
Idris Elba will executive produce the miniseries alongside John Ridley who, after clinching an Oscar for his work on 12 Years a Slave, is set to cast light on social injustice once more.

Filmmaker and the line producer of such global hits as Slumdog Millionaire and The Life Of Pi, Tabrez Noorani has personally rescued sex workers and girls caught in human trafficking racket from brothels in India.
He is now in the process of completing a feature film on the subject. Tabrez says the entire cast jumped into the project without bothering with the benefits. Rajkummar Rao plays a character based on the director. Admits Tabrez bashfully, "Yes, Rajkummar's characters attempts to rescue sex workers and girls trapped in human trafficking. I did the same."
Tabrez Noorani can't believe his good fortune. "I've waited 12 years to make Love Sonia. The subject, human trafficking is very close to my heart. But something or the other always stopped Tabrez.
