An okay SummerSlam. Can't see it as one of the best.

SummerSlam 2014 Thoughts

SummerSlam 2014 was the 27th annual SummerSlam event produced by the WWE. The event was the first SummerSlam to be included in the WWE new streaming service, the WWE Network. It took place on August 17, 2014 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for 6th straight year.

Most anticipated match would be Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena as Brock Lesnar was in his hottest year since coming back from the UFC. Coming from the shocking win of all time at WrestleMania, Lesnar would challenge the face of the company for the World Title. Roman Reigns also battled it out against Randy Orton which at the time was Roman's first major feud as a singles star.

The Good - Majority of the card was interesting and we had some very entertaining matchups. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton was probably the best match of the night. I wouldn't say it was a match of the year as I don't think none if these matches were year candidates but they did kept people invested. The Lumberjack was also fun and the crowd was wild. This was a great start for the solo careers of the Shield. Of course the night of Brock Lesnar beating the crap out of Cena was a holy $H¡T thing tonight. It was a bold move to have someone pound Cena like this at the time as WWE protected Cena as the top face for years.

The Meh - I say the weakest match of the night was Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho. Funny enough I remember the two having a more fun match up a PPV earlier. I think with it just being one-sided beat up for majority of the match was what cut it. Surprisingly the Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon match was okay. Yeah the two stars in there made a decent match.

The Bad - Nothing really bad or atrocious. However commentary was a big issue with JBL saying one of the dumbest things ever. Advertising the New WWE Network and saying even Vince McMahon is watching for 9.99. Yeah I'm for real.

Overall - It was an okay show. Surprisingly I hear people love this PPV more than I do. I can respect others who feel it was awesome. I find it one of the better SummerSlams at the time with most of the card being good and not a single bad match.

Score - 6 out of 10: Decent

0 = Terrible : 1 = Bad/Lackluster : 2 = Decent : 3 = Good : 4 = Awesome : 5 = One of the Best of all Time :

1. The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler: WWE Intercontinental Championship - 3/5

2. AJ Lee vs. Paige: WWE Divas Championship - 2.5/5

Can be fun at times

Warning: Spoilers
In a sea of mostly average matches, four things stand out: 1) the amusing callback to the all-out chaos (if not the violence) of the Attitude Era in the Dean Ambrose - Seth Rollins Lumberjacks match, 2) goddess Stephanie McMahon looking like a freakin' awesome superhero in her match against Brie Bella, 3) Randy Orton's sharp performance in his match against Roman Reigns, 4) Brock Lesnar's glorified squash of John Cena in the WHC main event. **1/2 out of 4 as a whole.
