  Damon Salvatore : I was all ready to go, and the door opens, and you jump in the car and say, "We're in this together"... and you weren"t taking no for an answer. That was the moment I realized you were the perfect girl for me because you were just as crazy as I was.

  Elena Gilbert : Okay, uh, tell me more. Uh, something happy.

  Damon Salvatore : Okay. Happy. Well, there is a motel ice machine in Denver that's got some stories to tell.

  Elena Gilbert : [not exactly thrilled by that]  What else?

You wanted to show me this meteor shower... so we drove out into the middle of nowhere... and the moment those shooting stars started to fall... Rain. Lots of rain. You were so sure it would clear, it was just easier to believe you. I took your hand.

  [and he does so again] 

  Elena Gilbert : [but...]  This isn't working. I'm sorry.

  Damon Salvatore : Hey, maybe you just need to try a little harder.

  Elena Gilbert : I am trying! I get that we had an amazing life together. And I know that... I loved the fact that you were reckless. And it probably made me feel very free. But now, when I look into your eyes, I just...

  [expectantly encouraging:]

  Elena Gilbert : [hesitates long time]  I'm not sure what to say.

  Damon Salvatore : Easy. So easy. Just say... that you missed me as much as I missed you.

  Elena Gilbert : [hesitates]  I remember

  [shakes her head] 

  Elena Gilbert : pain. I remember all the terrible things that you did to the people I care about.

  Damon Salvatore : Ugh.

  Elena Gilbert : I honestly don't remember anything good between us. I thought... if I saw you in person, it might change everything, but...

  [shakes her head] 

  Damon Salvatore : Maybe you just need a little more time.

  Elena Gilbert : Damon, I know that I love you.

  Damon Salvatore : Yeah...!

  Elena Gilbert : And I know that apparently I forgave you for all the awful things that you did.

  Damon Salvatore : [downcast]  Yeah.

  Elena Gilbert : But I just don't remember it.

  [shakes her head]
