$5k & Eight Days in the making...
Harlekwin_UK14 October 2022
This is the kind of movie that is hard to quantify.

So, let's take it at face value.

The movie has its tongue firmly in its cheek. This is an essential element of the setup. Without acknowledging this simple little fact - front and centre - you're gonna struggle with the movie.

This movie is cheep and rather awkward to watch. The cast come across particularly amateur and the script and characters feel, well, odd.

But that's the charm, if you like, of movies like this. Characters do odd things, script feels contrived.

The filming of the eponymous antagonist is necessarily limited, though there are moments that are a little adventurous.

There's nothing wrong with the plot outline, just the execution of the plan.

But there is the animated sequence to look out for - an almost singular high point.

The other high point is a McGiver-style arming scene, which is even more self-knowing than the rest of the movie, which is saying something.

Worth a watch, strictly once,

Thank God for Lindsay Ashcroft
voliveri6 February 2024
Because there's little other reason to watch this movie. I didn't care about the characters and I don't understand why any of these people are friends, except for the two women (the Scott character is particularly irritating).

The actors did their jobs capably. Eliza-Jane Morris was very strong, as was Lindsay Ashcroft. The actors playing the parents were fantastic despite limited screentime. Nate Bryan and Billy Chengary were adequate. I don't blame the actors for their performances--I think they did the best they could with the script they were given, though neither is a stand-out for me simply because I loathed the characters they played.

Joette Waters is phenomenal as the shop keeper, totally deserving the "and" credit. She makes the absolute most of her screen time and is a joy to watch. I wish they had done more with her character.

Yes, the special effects are amateur, but I expected as much going in, so I don't count these against the movie.

Some will complain about the preposterousness of a killer pinata. Honestly, that was one of the few things in the movie that worked for me.

This probably would have worked better as a 30-minute short.

Horror fans hoping for T&A will be disappointed. There's very little.

Suspension of disbelief?

Warning: Spoilers
There's just so much wrong here that even the realization that you're watching a bad B-movie doesn't help. How does a piñata with no moving limbs grab a bat? Bite people? There's only one scene that makes this mess funny and it involves shortening a guys manhood. Maybe the funniest thing of all is that it sets itself up for a sequel.

Troma wannabe comedy horror
Leofwine_draca23 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
KILLER PINATA is one of the dumbest independent horrors I've watched recently. The premise of the film is about a sentient pinata, sick and tired of having his race smashed and destroyed by American fun lovers, who decides to get revenge by stalking the inhabitants of a house and killing them one by one. Inevitably with this kind of set-up there's a Troma feel to the whole thing, a sense of the absurd, and everything plays out tongue-in-cheek. Unfortunately, it's also not very funny, well not at all funny as it happens.

The special effects are so cheap as to be non-existent, most of the running time is filled up with extraneous characters doing extraneous things, and the production values are poor. The main set-piece is a strenuous sex scene in which an attractive actress appears in her lingerie being menaced by the pinata which murders her boyfriend. There's plenty of gross out involving spilled spew and the like. In the end, though, I did have to wonder what the point to all this was supposed to be.

Silly but fun.
timmoss-2638718 November 2021
It says it was shot in 8 days, and it shows, but it needs to be seen on it's own terms.

It's obviously a variation on the 'Chucky' idea, though not nearly as grizzly.

I suppose it gets it's 18 rating because of language and some of the red stuff, mainly at the end.

In essence,it's totally silly and the humour is of the sort beloved of undergraduates.

Watching it in the student union bar with several beers is the way to go with this one.

Amazing acting and absolutely insane graphics. Extremely intense and leaves you on the edge of your seat. You wouldn't think a film about a killer pinata would be possible but DAMN here it is and he's here with a vengeance.

10/10 for everything

Well I have to admit this is in my top 10 favourites now, from the quite hilarious dialogue and scenes to the pinata. Yes it was shot on a tight budget and in 8 days but don't let that put you off. Great movie and worth a rewatch.

Runner up for best B-movie of all time
Difficult to watch at points, but utterly brilliant. I think this is going to scar me for a long time to come, 100% worth your time though.

Super fun and great writing
philippabailey-8155512 October 2020
Took a punt on this, it's super fun and goofy. I'm loving the writing subverting expectation in how people interact and totally nailing it. The acting leaves a little to be desired but it's and Indie B movie so that exactly what you'd expect. 10/10 for entertaining.

Brilliantly bad
shninabin-935251 October 2022
No character building No production value Movie's pace is all over the place Acting is inconsistent Budget for special effects must have been in the high end of 25 cents That all said, this is a brilliant 90 mins worth of entertainment. I'm not particularly into horror or student film or piñatas for that matter. 1st half of the film is taking its self too serious but that all changes in the last 40 mins, the movie finds its feet and becomes a really funny comedy with some genuine laugh out loud scenes. If you have a spare 1hr 20 mins to kill then you can't do much better than to fill the time escaping from reality give this film a go. Don't watch it with children.
