Some Suspense
Hitchcoc19 September 2020
Going back to the original Lost in Space, we always have a guy who is tolerated yet nearly gets everyone killed. While there is suspense in the effort to repair a part of the ship, it was just old hat for sci fi shows. We also have a little romance brewing. No gunfire this time, so it was a better episode, but nothing new.

One common theme I've noticed in ''Syfy'' shows

Warning: Spoilers
I've watched Killjoys (the first 2 seasons which were decent), The Magicians (which I thought was awful and couldn't even make it past season 1) and I'm now giving Dark Matter a shot. One thing I've noticed in all of these shows is how rushed the relationships/romances are (and are terribly paced). There's never a build up to any of them, no chemistry. They just get two people (usually the leads), maybe give them a tiny bit of tension between each other (if that), and before you can even start considering them as a romantic pairing, they kiss without any build up or reason to it.

I know this shows focus isn't even romance, but if you're going to include romances try to make them actually have meaning and some depth. ''One'' and Two'' should not have kissed this early on in episode 3, they haven't even known each other for that long or had any meaningful moments to justify a kiss yet. And the episode before this, One kissed another girl he had only just met. See where I'm going with this? I even hesitate ticking the ''yes'' box to this review containing spoilers because it was very predictable. Syfy loves quickly slamming the main leads of their shows together without any rhyme or reason

It's just rushed, forced and lazy writing. Try to actually add some depth and chemistry between a couple before you have them swallowing each others faces...besides that everything else about ''Dark Matter'' so far feels like your typical ''Syfy'' show, it's not great, but it's not terrible either. None of the characters are too likable but they aren't unlikable either. I think that's just a Syfy thing though, since they've always failed to make me care about any of the characters too much.
