Last weeks episode was a true Gotham classic with the arrival of a major Batman villain and the birth of one of his most famous foes in the episodes shocking conclusion, this episode though not as good is still very strong with future plot threads beginning to open up.
Cobblepot a.k.a The Penguin swears revenge on Theo Galavan after he has Cobblepot's mother killed by his sister Tabitha whilst the aftermath of the shocking conclusion last week of Ed Nygma accidentally killing girlfriend Kristen Kringle sees his split personality come to the surface as his good and bad sides combine and his alter ego The Riddler is truly born.
Whilst this goes on Selina is still upset over her fiend Bridgit's death(even though she isn't dead)and heads over to Bruce Wayne's but meets the two faced niece of Galavan Silver St Cloud(sent to butter up Bruce)who warns Selina to stay away from Bruce and after a misunderstanding with the two of them Bruce tells Selina to leave giving what Cloud wanted in the first place.
Later on Galavan arranges a victory party to celebrate his new role as Gotham mayor aware Penguin will try to kill him there which leads to a shootout where Cobblepot arrives and threatens to kill Galavan which leads to Gordon questioning who to trust(he knows some home truths now about Galavan from Penguin's ex sidekick Butch)and after a tense standoff Penguin gets away after being shot by Tabitha on the rooftop leading to Gordon telling Galavan he knows everything and will bring him down eventually.
We finally see Bruce and Silver kissing in full view of Selina plus Nygma truly merges his two selves together to become The Riddler.
A tad more campy than the ultra thrilling and quite emotional episode of the previous week but another cracking episode in the much superior second season of Gotham that wipes the floor with the first season that goes away from the bad guy of the week set up to a story arc.
Again Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin is the standout performer and his mission of revenge towards Galavan after he has his beloved mother killed is truly gripping(very emotional scene that was)and this is by far the best version of Batman's famous bad guy.Other star performers are Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon,David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne,Camren Bicondova as Selina, new girl Natalie Alyn Lind as Silver(much more interesting than her uncle Theo Galavan and her rivalry for Bruce's heart is very tense),the getting more creepy Cory Michael Smith as Ed/Riddler and the epic Sean Pertwee as Alfred who is just fab TBA.
It was a pretty tense and thrilling episode again with the very sad scene where Penguin's mother is knifed to death by sneaky Tabitha(though she is such a great character),Penguin heavy Victor Zsasz shooting at Gordon,Bullock(Donal Logue)and Butch in a shop, the slimy Silver and Selina nose to nose in an square off over Bruce,Ed truly becoming The Riddler when he realises his accidental killing of his girlfriend Miss Kringle made him become a new person(not a good thing for Gotham)and the fantastic finale where Penguin and men storm the victory party of Galavan that sees Tabitha kill a policeman,a shootout in the building and Penguin escaping despite Tabitha shooting him.
Gotham really has become a vital part of my TV watching week and though the camp factor is still slightly there and Theo Galavan still is a boring bad guy(better than he used to be though)it still has a rich absorbing cast of top actors playing so many interesting characters who are making the heroes and the bad guy battles so awesome to watch plus the action and thrills keep you hooked and great to see two of the caped crusader's premier bad guys taking centre stage.
