Deserves to be part of MLP's Top Ten Overall Best Episodes
metalman5014 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's really sad to hear that Amy Keating Rogers will be left the crew of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and will no longer writing anymore episodes for the show. So with her final episode of the series The Mane Attraction, let's just see if she pulled it off greatly for a final episode to conclude her library of installments she wrote...

I honestly have to say she pulled it off excellently, meaning that The Mane Attraction is not only one of my favorites of both Rogers and Season 5, but also part of my Top Ten Overall Favorites of the Show. To start off, the plot was just fantastic with one the best backstories of MLP episodes to date (if not the best) involving Applejack and her friend hanging with each other at a camp together, while also showing off one of my favorites songs of MLP:FIM. The writing, coupled with its voice acting has been done greatly with a superb script though the name Applejack gave Coloratura (Rara) sounds a bizarre to me.

Featuring great animation and eye-popping visuals of Coloratura's concert were just awesome for my eyes too so not much else to say about the animation other than its just spot on like every other episode. And what another great job for another episode delivering two messages in one episode and just one like with most others. Choosing between just one moral that was more worth of the episode I have to feel was more for me than the other though both were great has to be Applejack telling her friend of how the real perk of friendship is getting to see your friend being true to their self.

Although the character of Coloratura's manager Svengallop is a very hatable character and does nothing but get on my nerves what with his secretly demandingly and horrible attitude towards Pinkie Pie, the rest of the characters, including Countess Coloratura herself (thanks to Tony award-winning actress Luna Hall) were just incredible too and thanks to her wonderful personality and especially her strongly talented singing, which also makes her song at the very end a beauty that people would (and should) shed a tear for, Lena Hall truly shines in this episode. And the songs were just catchy and fantastic as well. So The Mane Attraction is definitely the textbook example of how to write an awesome final episode by a great writer like AKR, and for very good reasons, you'll surely be satisfied in end after watching it.

A wonderful attraction
TheLittleSongbird4 February 2021
While Applejack's character writing was pretty hit and miss throughout 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic', she is also out of the Mane 6 the pony that has the most interesting family. It is always interesting when we learn something new about any of the characters in any episode of the show, and we have that with the connection between Applejack and old friend Coloratura (term used for the highest register of a female voice in opera, most common in Bel Canto). Plus there is Lena Hall's guest turn.

"The Mane Attraction" is a big delight, a great penultimate episode for the season before the two parter finale "The Cutie Re-Mark" and a great (if slightly bittersweet) send off for writer Amy Keating Rogers. To me it is one of the best episodes of Season 5 and easily the best episode of both the season and of the show since "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", saying a lot as somebody who was underwhelmed by most of the episodes in between that episode and this (especially "What About Discord?", grrr!). Can completely understand why other fans consider it one of their favourite episodes.

My only issue with "The Mane Attraction" was the grossly irritating character of Svengallop. Am aware that the episode was satirising overbearing managers, but it goes so overboard with the obnoxiousness and everything negative about him without providing anything redeeming that one is at a loss at how Coloratura can be so oblivious when it's so blatantly obvious to everyone else.

However, the episode is beautifully animated. The spectacle at the final concert scene is a visual marvel. Speaking of that scene, that has to be my favourite one of Season 5 and one of my favourite endings of the whole of 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic', just love the emotion and how good it makes me feel on each viewing. The music fits beautifully and the featured songs plays a big role in the story and are a big part of "The Mane Attraction's" appeal. "Magic is Right" is in the top 3 of the best songs of the season along with "We'll Make Our Mark" ("Crusaders of the Lost Mark") and "I'll Fly" ("Tanks for the Memories").

Coloratura is my personal favourite of the new supporting characters from Season 5. Very interesting character with an awesome and easy to relate to (apart from her obliviousness regarding Svengallop) personality, especially if a singer yourself like with me. Applejack is the most likeable she has been in a long time and would go as far to say that it is one of her best appearances ever on the show in one of the best Applejack-centric episodes. Just loved how honest and caring she was, as well as her want to help, while toning down the stubborness and aggression that has been seen in other episodes.

Writing is pitch perfect, very entertaining, poignant and honest with good insight into the industry. The story is always compelling and didn't feel too compressed or over-stretched to me. The moral is a beautiful one delivered with sensitivity. The voice acting is great, with a show-stopping turn from Lena Hall.

In summary, wonderful. 9/10

Best Episode Ever!
gugigor22 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is either the best episode ever, or at least one of the best episodes ever. It features Lena Hall, a singer who in my mind was virtually unknown, who voices our guest character within this episode, who I will call Ra-Ra, because "Countess Coloratura"is too long. In any case, she comes in as a pop-star famous singer and is introduced as AppleJack's old friend from some random camp, where she sang excellently, and we shall ignore the fact that she was supposed to be a filly, because you know, Equestria, the Land I Love was really good. In any case, stuff happens, Coloratura's manager is revealed to be taking advantage of her name, and she basically fires the manager. The message is clarified later through her amazing song, The Magic Inside (or I'm Just a Pony), that Coloratura was not her true self, rather, Ra-Ra was her true self. So, let's see. Outstanding plot, good antagonist, good message, amazing songs. Rogers sure went out with a bang with this one, and set a rather high bar for the finale. I'd love to see how the finale--if it does- -beat THIS episode. :D

Wonderful ep to preceed the extreme finale of this season.

Warning: Spoilers
You go, Countess Coloratura! You really made the Mane attraction near the end, thanks to Applejack helping you realize how you should really perform. What a wonderful ep to show before some light purple overpowered unicorn finally comes back and does an extreme revenge plot.

Equestria my home...until said unicorn almost destroyed it.
