So, How Was Your Decade is a series in which many of the 2010s’ most important musicians answer our questionnaire about the people, places and things that shaped their decade. We’ll be rolling these pieces out throughout December.
Wayne Coyne is parked outside his home in Oklahoma City, sitting inside his Prius. It’s better to talk inside the vehicle than in his house, he says, where there’s cats, dogs, his wife and infant son. “It’s just the easiest spot to do an intimate talk in,” the Flaming Lips frontman says.

Bob Geldof and the re-formed Boomtown Rats will talk about their legendary punk band in a new feature doc, “Boomtown.” It is one of the first two films from a new music producer-distributor that has been formed by Beyond Entertainment and Tnc Media – BeyondTNC.
BeyondTNC will be launching “Boomtown” to international buyers in Cannes, as well as another feature doc, “Waiting: The Van Duren Story.” The latter tells the story of the titular Memphis musician who was tipped to become a major star, but faded into obscurity.
“Boomtown” was filmed in Dublin, London and New York. It features exclusive interviews with the four members of the re-grouped Boomtown Rats: Bob Geldof; Garry Roberts; Pete Briquette; and Simon Crowe. A host of big name artists also weigh in on the influential group including Bono, Sting, Sinead O’Connor and Dave Stewart.
Billy McGrath produces and directs through his Sideline Productions shingle.

Exclusive: Fresh off signing a first-look deal with Sony Pictures TV last month, Anthony Hemingway is getting on the feature field with Amazon Studios and some of the greatest NFL players ever to tackle college football.
The Emmy-winning American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson and Red Tails director has teamed with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl Mvp Desmond Howard to develop Work Horses for the House of Bezos.
Penned by Matthew King, the Hemingway-helmed film will look at the high-stakes and no-pay world of the gridiron battles played out at America’s top colleges. It will also explore the ingrained system that profits off players who struggle to make ends meet off the field.
Two-time NFL Mvp Rodgers and now-ESPN analyst Howard will executive produce with Ryan Rottman. Hemingway will produce with ex-nfl and former Lsu receiver Abram Booty and Nate Raabe.

Last fall, Gorillaz singer Damon Albarn was feeling bored on tour — so he did what he knows best and started sketching ideas for a new album on his iPad. “If you’re away from home for months on end, it just seems criminal not to try and turn that time into something tangible,” says the English singer-songwriter, 50, who’s released nearly an LP a year over the past quarter-century with Blur, Gorillaz and assorted side bands. The result is The Now Now, Gorillaz’s excellent new full-length LP. With its...

"Have you ever been to North Dakota?" The Orchard has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Boomtown, set in the oil fields of North Dakota. This fictional story follows John 'Jt' Turner, played by Tyler Riggs, who leaves his family and his hometown to travel up to Williston and work in the booming oil industry. His journey is filled with setbacks and great challenges as documented in this portrayal of the relentless pursuit of the American Dream (e.g. make a lot of money doing crappy hard work). The full cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Rachel Brosnahan, Dwight Yoakam, and Jocelin Donahue. This reminds me to recommend, once again, one of the best documentaries I've seen in years - The Overnighters - which was filmed in/around Williston. This looks solid, without any over-dramatized aspects, thankfully. Check it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Sabyn Mayfield's Boomtown,...

“Tracking Shot” is a top of month featurette here on Ioncinema.com that looks at the projects that are moments away from lensing. This November, we’ve got a fivesome of projects that we feel are worth signaling out, but before we put the focus on those, the previous month was a rather fruitful one for mostly indiewood film productions. Films that we’ll be seeing in 2016 and which are for the most part still filming include: Mark Williams‘ workplace drama The Headhunter’s Calling (with Alison Brie, Gretchen Mol, Gerard Butler, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina), Philippe Falardeau‘s bio boxing drama The Bleeder (with Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Elisabeth Moss), Taron Lexton’s coming-of-ager In Search of Fellini (with Ksenia Solo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Maria Bello), Kevin Tent‘s Black List scripted rom-com (with Domhnall Gleeson, Christina Applegate, Thomas Haden Church, Nina Dobrev), Sophie Brooks‘ NYC set Euro-fizzled comedy,...

Before the North Dakota oil boom (as witnessed in Jesse Moss’ The Overnighters), a good century back, there was the another type of boom. Commonly associated with the West, North Dakota was home to a short lived gold rush. Sabyn Mayfield will tap into the reserves of two up-and-comer players for what will be his directorial debut as THR reports that Boyd Holbrook and Rachel Brosnahan will topline Boomtown alongside Jocelin Donahue and newcomer Tyler Riggs. Holbrook is set to play Jt’s childhood best friend and Brosnahan plays a local bartender in the oil town.
Gist: Co-written by Mayfield and David Newbert, this follows Jt Turner’s (Riggs) journey across the country to Williston, North Dakota, home of the modern day Gold Rush. In an effort to make ends meet, the main character leaves his family behind to pursue a grueling, yet highly coveted, job in a now booming oil industry.
