Anushka saves the movie..
ash-3552431 July 2017
Imma be real concise here. Size Zero is your stereotypical Indian movie. Only difference is the concept. Raising positive awareness of plus-sized women was a novel concept, but it was executed poorly in this movie. Anushka Shetty does her absolute best to portray herself as an overweight, confident woman. She handles herself with panache and flair even when the movie gets extremely melodramatic. Arya isn't amazing, but he does the job. Sonal Chauhan is an extra. Prakash Raj, with his limited screen time, is commendable. The plot of this movie is some straight elementary crap. The love triangle mess is so clichéd and annoying, and immersing that with the social message makes this movie a mess on display. Overall, watch it for Anushka's performance.

Good entertainer...
fahimay23 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Kudos to Anushka for her mighty efforts in manipulating her weight gain and loss... Good to see a woman centric movie.... Theme is good, that a girl needs to be judged by her heart n intellect, not her weight....and to stay away from instant slimming solutions....

But movie lacked consistency; few editing errors n movie loses rationale at places.... The hot girlfriend, the dashing lover boy, seem unnecessary supporting cast..... Veterans like Urvashi n Prakash Raj have done their roles with ease...you can see their well sculpted style and signature acting and you appreciate them for that.... Expected more from Arya... little difficult to recognise him as a seasoned actor. ..but he did justice to his role... But of course, spotlight is on Anushka, whose weight problem you can easily relate to, yet that doesn't overshadow her civic sense and guts to speak her mind out...

Though logic takes a backseat at several frames and cinematic exaggeration settled down at times, you can dismiss all that. ..coz you want to see Anushka a winner...Music and songs failed to mesmerise me but you don't tend to concentrate much on that.... Watch it for a relaxing break....

Anushka Shetty doesn't fit in the screen
sachinsachin199828 April 2024
Please watch this movie in small smartphones only because. How do I put it lightly... Anushka Shetty is a bit too "horizontally tall" in this movie. If you try to watch this movie in big screen, your room will be filled by Anushka Shetty.

Movie consisting of Cheap body shaming jokes.

Sweety, an obese woman, joins a slimming centre but is horrified to witness the effects of the medicines they prescribe. She starts a campaign to stress the importance of being fit rather than slim.

Well .a movie to create health awarness. Plot is simple today everyone are trying to reduce weight fast and money company are using it to cheat people.

Not bad
sunnypaaji23 April 2022
The love story here is beautiful. Screenplay n dialogues keep you entertained. It loses steam with the weight loss track and becomes preachy but fast forward it and you shall have a lovely movie (ending is lousy too). One time watch definately for the chemistry between Arya and Anushka.

A Weighty Film
snaidu4226 December 2015
There was a time, especially in south India when heroine oriented films meant a long suffering heroine shedding oceans of tears, praying to countless gods to end her misery and finally alls well and ends well. Thanks to new age heroines and new age directors, this concept of debauched heroine oriented films have come to an end, and given rise to a new era of heroine oriented films where the heroine picks a cause and fights a relentless battle against it.

SIZE ZERO is one such movie which fights against a very dangerous business concept which has weeded itself and spreading its tentacles. The message is told in clear manner and hits it mark as the whole conceptualization is in a light hearted manner with a flawless performance by Anushka Shetty.

Soundarya aka Sweety (Anushka Shetty) is an obese female obsessed with weighing machines and fortune cookies. She is friends with her colleague Jyothi (Pavani Gangireddy) who is preparing for a miss India contest and enrolls herself in a weight loss clinic run by Satyanand (Prakash Raj). Jyothi often advises Sweety to enroll too, but Sweety does not believe in unnatural methods of losing weight. Sweety's mother (Urvashi) is off the rocker as her daughter is not getting married as all her matches go down the drain because of her weight.

Sweety has a crush on Abhishekh (Arya) a documentary film maker who is a fitness freak and as luck would have it, Abhishekh is already going steady with Simran (Sonal Chauhan) a drop dead gorgeous NRI. Shattered by this revelation, Sweety comes to the conclusion, that her romance failed because of her weight and enrolls herself into the weight loss clinic.

Disasaster strikes, when Jyothi collapses during a routine weight loss exercise and is diagnosed with liver damage, a direct result of the illegal weight loss drugs administered by the clinic. Sweety decides to take upon the clinic and bring it down and helping her is a rich business man Shekhar (Adivi Sesh) who is besotted by her.

The movie totally belongs to Anushka, who has put on oodles of weight for this role and her comic timing is perfect. She is good in the comic as well as the emotional scenes.

Arya is decent as the documentary filmmaker confused between his love of simran and friendship with Sweety. He holds his own even in scenes where Anushka is the obvious showstopper.

Prakash Raj hams his way through as usual, it is getting boring to watch him with the same expressions over and over again.

Sonal Chauhan's role is as skimpy as her outfits and manages to give us a guessing game as to what her expressions actually mean, she has the same expression when oozing oomph, when she is sad, and when she is happy.

Screenplay by Kanika Dhillon is excellent, the comic sequences are well timed into the narrative and scenes free flow.

We can forgive Prakash Kovalemudi for Anaganaga O Dheerudu, and thank him for giving us a movie like SIZE ZERO. The direction is perfect and though he relied on some unnecessary scenes involving Ali and a Little over the top item dance by an overweight Anushka Shetty, the movie is entertaining enough for the whole family barring one or two naughty dialogs by the lead actress.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a different fare and also have a hearty laugh at the same time.

Excellllennttttt! Love it!
lovelytanya8 December 2015
I hate it when people are so critical about this movie! I don't get it!You do know movies are made for our entertainment right?

Nobody goes to cinema to learn life lesson... at least I don't! I have something that's called LIFE!

Size Zero is super entertaining! Anushka did a great job! and it doesn't hurt to see Arya's handsome face!

This movie has a good message about people trying to lose weight the easy way! In today's world, everyone wants instant result. This movie shows that it's totally ridiculous! And I like how they portrayed Anushka as a plus sized woman! Even if you don't care about the message (like myself), you should still watch this movie!

Even though this movie is all about comedy, they don't fat shame anyone! The jokes are clean and genuinely funny! It just goes on to show that you don't have to make fun of someone to make people love! I just love this movie!

Everyone should watch this movie! You will love it!

A concept every girl would relate to!
priyadua-1931316 September 2022
This movie is an absolute breath of fresh air, when Bollywood is running after size zero, here stands the beautiful actress that would truly change your perception!

This movie took me exactly where I wanted to go, a cozy warm place that makes you comfortable in your own skin. Not only the actress is absolutely stunning throughout the movie, her powerful performance and cuteness will make you go gaga for her. The way her character journey is written is beautiful, from a joyful girl to making bad decisions and then correcting them, you would cheer for sweety all the way!

The message that the movie is trying to deliver is very clear and is delivered very politely. They've also showcased how the ads and movies heavily influence one's mind and keep making you feel insecure.

Sweety's journey on self love is a must watch!

I really hope Bollywood also comes up with such important concepts specially when they don't shy away from promoting the size zeroes.

Another great role from Anushka
charmedones-1430714 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First, I like to say I am a huge fan of Anushka Shetty since I have seen her in Baahubali/Bhaagamathie, and seeing her in a yet different and comedic role that is much lighter compared to the two mentioned was an interesting change. I have yet to seen a movie Anushka hasn't performed well in, even the movie Singam, which wasn't a good movie imo, Anushka still made that movie aleast a little bearable to watch.

Size Zero wasn't what I thought it would be, and I am glad for it. A fun comedy, while definitely has weak points I agree, it's hard to give it a lower rating due to Anushka's acting. Personally, I thought she was only chubby in this movie, so I am not sure why the characters thought she was obese, even her mother who wasn't exactly that slim herself. Perhaps it's just my own view of Anushka, the idea that no one would go out with that adorable face was a bit of a stretch.

The first half was cute, and her friendship with Jyothi was good. The last half could have been polished better, especially the romance part. Sadly I have forgotten the names of the two love interest to Anushka and the main guy, but I thought it was weird, given the girl was helping set up their new idea, I know this is typical in an Indian movie, but she wasn't truly that bad. The guy hadn't really done anything either (Although for me, it felt like he kinda just popped up midway). The main villain definitely could have been done better, him being done in by a random spy camera was a bit rushed imo.

Obivously not perfect, but I am looking forward to all of Anushka's films, as I do think she is a great actress with good acting range, I think the older she gets, the more fanastic she's going to be, and if Bollywood or any other Indian film industry don't hire her because of age, look or weight, then they are losing on a good actress. Personally, I also wish Anushka was globally known globally (As someone born in a western country, the name Anushka Shetty doesn't mean much sadly to people foreign to Indian films). I do hope one day she branches out to other films in the world, so more can see her acting.

One last note. In the last part of the movie when Sweety and friends were doing their sessions, did anyone else notice her Baahubali costair Tamaannah Bhatia in one of those videos? She's only in it for a total of split seconds due to the fast pacing of the scene, but she was on the screen advocating Sweety's campaign. She doesn't appear to be credited for this movie, so it made me wonder if it was actually her. I am 98% certain of it though. Not much to say, I just thought it was cool she had a cameo in Anushka's movie, in between Baahubali.

Definitely worth to watch, and an important message about weight.
