This, the first episode of the series, opens with a female college student being ambushed in the toilets by a masked man who drags her into one of the stalls and rapes her. Annelies Donckers, the police officer investigating the case, notices similarities to the rape of a friend when she was at college ten years previously. Making little progress she decides to enlist the help of one of her old lecturers; Professor Jasper Teerlinck. Teerlinck is a rather strange Professor in Criminology; he is obsessed with cleanliness and has personal skills that make Saga Norén from 'The Bridge' look like Miss Sensitivity! He manages to offend a senior police, students and the rape victim and to relax he goes onto the roof and admires the view while imagining himself singing. Before he inevitably helps solve the case he manages to get himself arrested.
On the strength of this opening episode I'd say that this series will be well worth watching. In his introduction Walter Iuzzolino, of 'Walter Presents' said 'First you'll hate him, then you'll want to kill him, then you'll love him' he wasn't wrong. Koen De Bouw does a brilliant job as the eponymous professor; he makes the character cringe-making and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time. These laughs are all fairly unforced as one is laughing at just how offensive he is or the bizarreness of what he does. While he dominates proceedings Ella Leyers also impresses as Donckers, a far more normal character. The rest of the cast are pretty good too. The nature of the crime may make this disturbing for some viewers although we see nothing that can be considered overly salacious. Overall I really enjoyed this opening episode and look forward to seeing more of Professor T.
