The Past

We are brought back to the post Horsin' Around days. Bojack meets all the principal characters or interacts with them. Todd appears. And we begin to know why Bojack is full of angst and disappointment in himself. We also know there was a major failure when he is talked into doing something he really didn't want to do.

How the feeling of failure started!

I really enjoyed this episode as it brings us back to 2007, when BoJack was still famous as the "Horse from Horsin around" and we get a glimpse of how he became the one he is today!

I really enjoyed all the referencer and gags to 2007 media, like No Country for Old Men and the final season of The Sopranos!

The characters are very different, but we still get the baseline of who they turn out to be in present time!

Most notable is BoJack who wants to escape the fame of Horsin around and therefore wants to do a show that is BETTER than that! I love how it shows his insecurities around it! Its obvious that the experience around this, hit him hard!

The Worst Episode To Date

Warning: Spoilers
I was incredibly disappointed when I saw this episode. Sure, I loved the 2007 period piece nods. I loved the "Lost" reference, I loved all the throw-away jokes as much as the next guy. But wow, was this episode a disappointment.

"Bojack" is one of the greatest comedies ever, and that makes this episode even worse. It isn't bad television per se, but compared to the rest of the show it's just atrocious. It provided some insight, but the comedy was stale, and so was the drama. So with stale comedy and stale drama, one asks themselves, "what exactly is good about this episode?" The answer is very little.

"This is a lone hiccup in an otherwise long and fruitful business arrangement." -W.W.

Warning: Spoilers
We all know that Bojack turned down a lot of film and TV projects after his hugely popular debut as the horse in 'Horsin Around'. Most agents did not even bother contacting him as they knew he would refuse.

This episode explores one of Bojack's rare ventures in the TV industry in 2007 and, according to the ending credits, was not at all successful. This begs the question, maybe Bojack was correct when he doubted the success of any future roles of his in TV after 'Horsin Around' in the first place?

Overall, this was an inspired episode full of inspired references, such of all the big things in 2007 like the release of the first 'Assassin's Creed' and many major films of that time, and a great sense of humour related to the characters. An example is when Mr Peanutbutter refers to his then wife Jessica Biel as "my second and final wife" in front of a certain Blarn in a coffee shop as this is dramatic irony since we know that they later divorced (Spolier Alert: Blarn is in fact Diane, who turns out to be Mr Peanutbitter's third, nobody knows whether final, wife)

The story flashes back to where the characters lives were in the year 2007.

This is a strong episode with an enjoyable premise and humour.

Whenever BoJack Horseman does a retrospective episode it is usually very good and this one did not disappoint me. I like how, as always, the writers go hilariously over-the-top when spoofing the time period. There are plenty of good visuals, sounds and lines of dialogue on this theme that work well.

The general storyline for each character is pretty good and all have standout moments. BoJack's is the strongest for the simple fact we know the outcome of 'The BoJack Horseman Show' and it feels unsurprising considering of dodgy they make it sound during conception. Being a Soprano's fan I also enjoyed the references to its final episode and their humorous take on the famous cut to black.

I think the banter is consistently strong throughout the episode and plenty of lines are memorable.

Why are we watching the past? Hmm I didn't catch any jokes funny which is really disappointing.
