Cashing in on the genre, biased retelling
mdcollinsbarracuda1 January 2023
It's not surprising that in 2022 I'm the first person to write a review on this 2016 series - it's brief and forgettable. However what's offered on Freevee are a few of the episodes including the Menendez brothers and the guy who turns his children into bank robbers. I find it to be very matter-of-fact and a little too upbeat considering these stories are very tragic. But these are mainly just the headlines and a bit of bias on each story. For instance for the Menendez brothers they try to hit home the idea that these are just two psychopaths who were greedy when in actuality they potentially were harboring the secret of their father being abusive even from their own shrink. This is not uncommon at all, especially for a wealthy family because it's always pounded into the family members that dirty laundry is never to go outside of the house. The man was obviously very controlling and abusive. I think that the Menendez brothers definitely were psycho pathic murderers but I do think that what drove them to be that way was the difficult upbringing. With the bank robber father, the narrator keeps saying this poor father was just trying to be a good dad and fell off the rails. That's BS! He was a bad father and a criminal , let's not paint it pink. It's not the first time that the wife or spouse who's holding everything together dies or leaves and then the remaining spouse falls apart and turns into the criminal that was festering just below the surface the whole time. To bring your children into your life of crime is outrageous and should've garnered him additional punitive time. I haven't watch the other episodes yet and I'm not sure that I will. These are just very basic attempts to cash in on the true crime genre despite that the story has been told repeatedly elsewhere.
