There are a lot of times when film critics love something or at least find it in them to like a movie and somehow drop the ball in a big way. Wraith has a lot of promise since it has an interesting premise, it does promise the appearance of an actor that many people still enjoy, and the setting helps further when it comes to painting a picture that people might like. Unfortunately, once one moves past the title and the premise, it becomes easy to ascertain that it’s all window dressing that doesn’t hold up once the story starts.

Chance the Rapper shares a short tale in “A Bar About a Bar.” The accompanying new self-directed video features fellow Chicago rapper Vic Mensa and Chicago-based painter Nikko Washington.
The clip opens on Chance and Mensa working on a writing exercise. Mensa asks, “What you got?” Chance launches into the opening verse with, “I got a bar about a bar/It’s not a joke, it’s just a bar” as he unfurls the tale that takes him, naturally, to a bar. Meanwhile, Washington paints in the background, inspired by the story.

Screenwriter Matt Lopez has signed with CAA for representation just ahead of the premiere of his adaptation of “Father of the Bride” for HBO Max. The new movie, starring Andy Garcia as the titular father, Gloria Estefan, Adria Arjona, and Isabela Merced, will debut on June 16, timed to Father’s Day Weekend.
Lopez also penned the script for another upcoming adaptation — this time, Walt Disney Studios’ “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” movie, with 21 Laps and the Jim Henson Company producing. Like “Father of the Bride,” the new movie will reportedly center a Latino family’s story. In 2020, Netflix acquired the rights to his spec feature script “Wraith,” based on the novel “Cyberstorm” by Matthew Mather. Sebastian Hoffman is set to direct that project, which is produced by Emile Gladstone.

Exclusive: Matt Lopez, creator/executive producer of ABC’s Promised Land, has signed a multi-year overall deal with ABC Signature, the studio behind the upcoming multigenerational Latinx family drama. ABC Signature is part of Disney TV Studios.
Lopez’s Promised Land is an epic, generation-spanning drama about the Sandovals, a Latinx family vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley, premiering on Jan. 24, 2022, on ABC. The series’ all-Latinx cast (including John Ortiz and Christina Ochoa) and majority Latinx crew are filled with people whose stories resemble the Sandoval family.
“‘La familia’ is how the cast and crew of Promised Land refer to each other, and it’s how I think of Jonnie Davis, Tracy Underwood, and their amazing team — as my creative family, said Lopez in a statement to Deadline. “The courage and integrity they have shown in supporting this show make it clear that ABC Signature is...

Ava DuVernay’s young adult superhero pilot “Naomi” has set its main cast at The CW, the network announced Thursday.

The series is adapted from the comic “Naomi,” which launched last year from Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and was illustrated by Jamal Campbell. DuVernay is executive producer and writer on the pilot with Jill Blankenship.
Also joining the project as series regulars are Alexander Wraith, Cranston Johnson and newcomer Camila Moreno.
Wraith stars as Dee, the owner of a local tattoo parlor. When a strange event leaves the town in chaos, Dee hints that he knows more than he is willing to tell.

When John Carpenter was making his movies Assault on Precinct 13 and Halloween, he wrote and recorded the scores himself almost as an afterthought because he had to: there was no budget for a composer. Here he had these hair-raising, suspenseful stories with murderers wending through darkness, but it all happened in silence. So the budding filmmaker — whose favorite music was the Stones and the Beatles, though he loved the scores of Bernard Herrmann and Dimitri Tiomkin — drew upon the basics of composition he’d learned from his dad, a...

Horseshoe Bay’s motley crew of amateur sleuths resumed the most important mystery of their lives on Wednesday: How does one stop oneself from being murdered by a vengeful sea spirit? (We said it was important, not relatable.)
Nancy Drew‘s second season premiere picked up right where the CW drama’s truncated freshman finale left off, with Nancy & Co. scrambling to outsmart the Aglaeca, when Detective Tamura arrived with troubling news. A young woman named Amanda Bobbsey was hit by a car in the woods — sorry, make that haunted woods — and the last thing she said before losing consciousness was Nancy’s name.

Season 5 of Apex Legends is finally upon us, bringing with it an immense amount of changes to every facet of the game. From entirely new characters and reworkings of old ones to major map changes and new quality of life features, Season 5 looks to be one of the most substantial updates to the title since it launched in February of last year. However, one significant update to the game’s loot pool might shock and frustrate some fans and lead others to sigh a breath of relief.
The Peacekeeper has long reigned as one of the most powerful and sought after guns in Apex Legends, offering those with high accuracy the ability to down opponents with one or two quick headshots while strafing about like a madman. One of Apex Legends‘ least-played heroes has received a substantial rework with Season 5.
We are, of course, referring to holographic trickster Mirage, who has found himself struggling to compete with top-tier picks like Wraith and Octane for some time. A large part of the character’s weakness has historically been due to his generally unimpactful toolkit, especially the decoy-generating Psyche Out, which, despite its intended function as misdirection, was often immediately recognizable as a fake to any player with a working pair of eyes.
Clearly just as dissatisfied with Mirage’s reputation as everyone else, Respawn has finally seen fit to roll out a number of improvements to the Legend which sees almost every ability altered to some degree. Continue through the break below for a full breakdown of how the slippery customer now operates on the battlefield.

Today marks the release of Season 5 of Apex Legends, and with the update comes a bevy of huge changes to characters, guns, and gameplay mechanics that you’re really going to want to familiarize yourself with before jumping into King’s Canyon again. Let’s take a look at some of the most notable changes you need to know about.
Of course, one of the most important new additions to the game is the newest legend, Loba, who we’ve been learning about via trailers over the past few weeks. This new character will be very focused on loot, with a passive that allows her to view loot through walls and an ultimate that lets her teleport those items to other teammates. She’ll also have the ability to use her Jump Drive bracelet to teleport herself around the battlefield and gain access to all this shiny loot. All in all,...

As one Apex Legends player has unfortunately just discovered, the science of physics can be a cruel mistress indeed. Like no doubt countless others before them, Danny_ABR, believing they could outrun the dreaded life-sapping ring in World’s Edge before it consumed them, resorted to a desperate play in order to escape its clutches.
With just five squads and twelve players remaining in the quest for glory, Danny, in desperate need of a speed boost, hooks themselves to a nearby Sky Platform in order to gain the momentum necessary to escape certain death. At first glance, it appears as if the master getaway plan has been executed flawlessly, though delight quickly turns to despair when the Wraith player comes back down to Earth.

By and large, Respawn’s delivery of Apex Legends Season 4 has gone off without a hitch.
Following a truly excellent bait-and-switch marketing campaign that saw supposed new Legend Forge replaced with fan-favorite Revenant, hype for the battle royale’s fourth seasonal refresh has been off the charts. Having had a fortnight to acclimatise themselves to a majorly revamped World’s Edge map, rejigged ranked changes and, of course, a fresh metagame, however, players are beginning to notice the presence of a few cracks in an otherwise flawless update.
Currently, one of the hottest topics over on Apex‘s official subreddit is that concerning Revenant’s hitboxes. The term, for those unaware, refers to the surface area of each Legend which, when hit, registers incoming damage. Due to their size, characters such as Gibraltar and Caustic are ‘easier’ to hit as a result, a downside that ultimately resulted in Respawn giving...

The next addition to Apex Legends‘ highly sought after Heirloom items could be arriving soon, new leaks suggest.
For those unaware, the term refers to special cosmetic-only overrides for a specific character, usually taking the form of an override for any individual Legend’s melee attack. Just one of these – Wraith’s Kunai – was available at launch as an extremely rare drop from Apex Packs, though Respawn has since introduced several others. Lifeline, Pathfinder and Bloodhound have all received their own Heirloom items over the last 12 months, most of which were only available for a brief period in limited-time events.
The expectation, then, is that the studio will eventually get around to releasing one such trinket for every existing and future Legend as time goes on, and it appears as if the next in line to receive theirs has been revealed ahead of schedule.

Yesterday, the massively-exciting news broke that Christian Bale was said to be in talks for a key role in Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth installment in the McU’s Asgardian franchise. While Bale will always have ties to the comic book genre thanks to leading Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, this development has still come out of nowhere.
There’s no denying that the 45 year-old is one of the best actors working today that rarely, if ever, gives a bad performance, but a Marvel Studios blockbuster doesn’t exactly seem in his wheelhouse. Bale currently finds himself in the midst of the awards race yet again this year thanks to his work in James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari, so the idea of him circling the wild and wacky cosmic adventures currently being thought up by writer/director Taika Waititi seems a little surprising.

With Apex Legends Season 3 now in its final few weeks of operation, the battle royale’s metagame has settled into a predictable rhythm.
As is always the case with frequently updated, competitive-focused titles such as Respawn’s shooter, the tail end of any given season is usually when experimentation with different strategies and team composition dissolves in favor of always picking the generally agreed upon ‘best’ choice. Weapons, Heroes, map locations: all of these variables, their pick rates, and performances are all tracked, not just by the developer itself, but players, too.
And so, with the stats now backed up with three months of solid player data, fans have started sharing their discoveries, chief among them being character rankings. Apex Legends is in the best shape it’s ever been right now. Following a rocky first few months, Respawn has settled into a smooth rhythm of development, introducing semi-regular content updates that players have generally welcomed with open arms. The most recent fruits of its labor, Voidwalker, is a story-driven event that explores the tragic history of playable character Wraith. Introduced alongside these new narrative beats are a new Armed and Dangerous limited-time mode and a number of neat additions to Kings Canyon’s geography.
For the price of absolutely nothing, Voidwalker has quite rightly received praise from the fanbase, though there remains one all-important area where Respawn will know it needs to improve. Apex Legends will finally receive a frequently requested feature next week. Due to arrive on August 13th, fans of the battle royale will have access to a new solo queue mode as part of a brand new event. This is undoubtedly the occasion first teased by EA boss Andrew Wilson in an earlier earnings call and is scheduled to run for a two-week duration. For lone wolves, in particular, the news couldn’t have come sooner, but even team players will no doubt welcome the addition of new ways to play.
The caveat to this announcement, of course, is that Apex‘s long-awaited solo mode isn’t intended to be a permanent fixture, at least not yet. Come the conclusion of Respawn’s so-called Iron Crown Collection event, everything included with it will be bid a fond farewell, with only cosmetic skins and the like sticking around, should you unlock them.

The event that gave us the modern-day Guardians of the Galaxy is getting a new follow-up in November!
No one could have predicted how huge and important Marvel’s mid-'00s content would turn out in the long run. On Earth, Captain America and Iron Man were duking it out in Civil War. On Sakaar, Bruce Banner’s alter-ego was being reinvented and turned into a big deal once again in Planet Hulk. Everywhere else, Annihilus was causing trouble in Annihilation and a whole bunch of space heroes had to team up to stop him.
Those three stories were going on concurrently, and out of those series we got not only important ripples in Marvel’s comic universe, but Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Needless to say, these are easily three of the most important Marvel storylines in the last fifteen years.

Horror novelist and comics writer Joe Hill tells us how his third novel, NOS4A2, got adapted by AMC.
Author Joe Hill’s third novel, NOS4A2, is the decades-spanning story of a battle of wills between a young woman named Vic McQueen and a supernatural being called Charlie Manx. In the sphere of competitive gaming, nothing is set in stone for long. Balance adjustments, buffs and nerfs all contribute to an ever-changing shift in what’s considered the best, and Apex Legends is no different in that regard. Instead of following in Epic Games’ footsteps with Fortnite‘s player avatars, Respawn opted to take a leaf out of Overwatch‘s book by creating a diverse cast of characters, each with their own established story and abilities.
The system, along with an eclectic choice of weapons and gadgets, helps to keep the experience of sky-diving into Kings Canyon feeling fresher for longer, though the feature certainly isn’t without its pitfalls. As Blizzard has struggled to do since the release of its team-based shooter, Respawn has found itself constantly having to make tweaks to Apex Legends‘ existing cast in order to keep each on a relative playing field to the other.

With thousands playing at any given time and updates being rolled out on the regular, it’s nothing short of a small miracle that games such as Apex Legends remain as bug-free as they do. If Respawn Entertainment’s thoroughly well-received effort on the Titanfall series has taught us anything, of course, it’s that the studio knows how to write clean code, but even that is no guarantee of a bug-free experience.
Since launch back in February, the battle royale has largely managed to avoid buckling under the pressure of its popularity, with servers holding steady and game-breaking glitches being kept to a minimum and for that, Respawn deserves credit, but its latest venture is far from exempt. As recently as last week, news of an exploit allowing Wraith players to create infinite portals spread around the internet like wildfire and today brings to light yet another potentially massive...

Insomniac hasn't formally announced a Spider-Man 2 for PS4, but there are clues as to what a sequel could entail...
This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man PS4 and some speculation on the future. It comes from Den of Geek UK.
Insomniac's Spider-Man game was one of the biggest releases of last year, garnering loads of positive reviews and spawning three well-received Dlc chapters, as well as fun post-launch content like the Fantastic Four suits that arrived in January. It seems logical to assume, although Insomniac is yet to formally announce it, that a Spider-Man sequel will follow.
But what might Spider-Man 2, or whatever it ends up being called, actually entail? There are quite a few clues to uncover in the first game itself, and there are even more indicators about the future of the web-slinging franchise to be found on the web (pun very much intended...

“Wraith” the first film to emerge from the slate of Mubina Rattonsey’s Zero Gravity Motion Pictures will shoot in Abu Dhabi in the second half of this year. The English-language horror thriller being directed by Armaan Zorace (“God is Dead”) is to feature a live, Muslim exorcism.
The plot focuses on a couple who hail from Seattle and attempt to settle down in a new town. But the house they find contains an evil presence, obliging them to fight forces from other dimensions.
This is a unique modern ghost story, which the mystery takes us into largely unexplored territory,” director and co-writer Zorace told Variety. “Abu Dhabi is ideal as it is easy and efficient, but also has the nuances of a Middle Eastern country that one cannot easily fabricate.”
“We will film real a Muslim exorcism, as conducted by the head of a Mosque, Our actors will interact with the ceremony,...

Yo Gotti recruited Lil Baby for a playful live version of “Put a Date on It” on Tuesday’s Tonight Show. While the rappers exchanged triplet-filled, heavily-bleeped verses over a sleek trap beat and live scratching, a random guest mimed the song’s central trumpet hook and a group of dancers flaunted shirts emblazoned with the title of Gotti’s upcoming 10th LP, Trapped.
Yo Gotti has yet to announce a release date for Trapped, which follows 2017’s I Still Am, but he teased the LP in a recent Billboard interview.

Cardi kicked off her performance with a potent rendition of “Get Up 10,” the opening track off her acclaimed debut, Invasion of Privacy. Clad in camo and backed by an army of similarly-dressed women, Cardi tore through the first verse of the ferocious cut before Pardison Fontaine emerged to perform “Backin’ It Up.

T.I. recruited Young Thug for “The Weekend,” a breezy new song on which the duo celebrate their elevated status in rap. The track appears on T.I.’s upcoming 10th album, Dime Trap, out October 5th via Epic Records/Grand Hustle.
“If you gon’ measure my bad more than you measure my good/ Just think it coulda been worse – I could be dead in the hood,” T.I. observes in his reliably smooth flow over a glimmering electric guitar pattern. “Instead I’m out here with Swift, poppin’ bottles and...

T.I. and Meek Mill saunter through a shootout in the video for their new collaboration, “Jefe.” The track will appear on T.I.’s next album, Dime Trap, which is expected to arrive later this year.
In the Nathan R. Smith-directed clip, the two rappers arrive in a small village that appears to have been decimated in a deadly brawl. Their appearance, however, causes the residents – many of them wearing Mexican Day of the Dead masks – to rise from the carnage. Soon enough, T.I. and Meek Mill are...
