Despite a great gag this is a lackluster episode
CubsandCulture26 June 2021
The writers got a lot of Dean's role in this episode; the running gag that shows up a few times is one of the highlights of this season. However, the episode itself is pretty lame. The younger Nazi being a turncoat comes across as a mere plot mechanic. I am also unsure if such a fantastical show as Supernatural has any business using the Nazi in this silly manner. But worse of all, several scenes are staged with the swirling camera-which isn't something the show does that often and doesn't fit the vibe of the show.

Watch for the Jensen Ackles Comedy Gold not the Characterisation or Plot
curtiskeren11 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When I think back over this episode, I have the impression that I loved it. But then I stopped and really thought about what I might put in a review and realised that what I had loved about the episode had mostly been the moments where Jensen Ackles made me laugh out loud. SPOILERS: the moment where Dean is desperate to try out the grenade launcher, or the off hand comments about hating Nazis (Indiana Jones Style), the bumbling with the antiques in the shop, or the "Dude, I killed Hitler.... your welcome!" - even now just thinking about those scenes puts a smile on my face. But if I think about the rest of the episode it didn't really have much to write home about. The plot is simple and easily foiled. The Nazis are stereotypical comic book villains. Yep the Thull kinda were that before, but at first they were kind of Hydra-esq / Indiana Jones-style villains. Now we seem to be heading for some kind of 1960s-TV-Joker or Power Rangers style Villains, in the OTT-and- not-quite-in-a-good-way style. And I found this to be especially true with the way they chose to style Hitler. I guess he came back crazy? But I just found most of his antics to be bizarre and puzzling where I suspect we were supposed to laugh?? The girl finding out she was a descendant of Hitler could have been interesting but either the fallout from that didn't get enough air time or the character didn't have enough punch to leave a lasting impression, because nothing really resonated with me over her dilemma. The verdict for this episode? Watch it because Jensen Ackles is pure comedy gold when given the chance to be silly. But at the same time lower your plot and character expectations and you will have a lot of fun.

Next story from Season 8x13
rimailbox21 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There's always something wrong if Dean doesn't taste his favorite food, and this episode is to divert his mind about his mother. It took 3 seasons to get the continuation of the episode about Hitler, and the results were not as heroic as I thought, I feel those necromanchers wasting their time to looking for all aspects of awakening the Fuhrer if it will end easier than their long term effort.

For a while I wonder why they don't burn the boys like what they did to other victims? Yap, back again, the story won't running if the main characters dead. I just thinking this episode not good enough, maybe because the story can't satisfied my expectation. I guess the fine thing for this case brought back Dean's mood.

Hitler was too ridiculous
treborbasset5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I found most of the episode fun and I liked the girl, and I liked the American boy who betrayed the Nazis, but as soon as Hitler was revived this episode jumped the shark.

We have so much footage of how Hitler spoke and acted, so to portray him as an exuberant girlish playful American hyperactive comedian who "woofs" like a dog and says "I like doggies"... what on earth am I watching?! This is one of the most evil dictators of history, a stern and serious man and incredible orator. I think they missed an opportunity to show something genuinely scary and menacing.

I don't know if there is some clause that producers have that says Hitler has to be ridiculed if he is to appear on television, but if so, it's probably better not to show him at all. Because this was too ridiculous to the point of embarrassment. I can believe in werewolves, demons, angels, God, djinns, and even Nazi necromancers, but not in this absurd portrayal of Hitler. It was embarrassing to watch.

not very engaging - lost interest
proudhotkin23 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Not worth watching unless you want reminded of how bad a Supernatural episode can be once in awhile. Supernatural is a show with some really fun episodes, really gripping episodes, really interesting episodes etc. This is not one of them in my opinion. It follows under the category we seem to have of Supernatural episodes every season that you are better off skipping.

Contains minor spoilers:

At the beginning of the episode I was mildly interested. Then it turned into a sort of story telling episode with a very annoying stereotype of the modern teenager or young adult woman and her badly acted drama out of surprise and disgust at being related to Hitler. Naturally Sam, like always acts as the voice of support to the person who is not used to this world introduced by Sam and Dean. After the engaging initial sequence of Sam and Dean investigating the antique shop and after the first somewhat entertaining introduction to this stereotypical girl, the nazi's female of interest, my expectations for the episode quickly faded. Seeing the direction the episode was going and not interested in watching a cheese filled stereotypical and un-engaging kill Hitler episode, I quit around half way through and just called it a night. After all, after I just watched the previous week's episode the same night - one which I found quite enjoyable and that came out the bat very interesting and maintained that interest throughout. This episode quickly after the nazi started telling his "story" felt very very lame.

Uninteresting episode
blairlemmer26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The only good thing about this episode is the girl who is really pretty and funny. The rest is pretty ridiculous, especially the part with Hitler reincarnated. There's no point in making him so stupid and grotesque, because it almost makes him likable, which this obnoxious character surely wasn't, I guess. It's a boring episode, only Jensen raises the level a bit with his comic and childish style. I rated it 5/10, simply because it's my favorite series and I love pretty girls like Allison Paige, I like lively and endearing brunettes. As usual, the beauties of the Supernatural series save the story which, for once, is disappointing.

....
hannahisaacs-6177513 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The nazi theme is something recurring in this series and I find it to be quite ridiculous. This episode was so painfully boring I could barely get through it. Hell, the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because Dean was hilarious in this episode. It was peak Dean humor, something that we've missed out on for the past few episodes before. The girl who was kidnapped was just so boring and so annoying. Way too over dramatic. Also can we just talk about the plot for a second?? Resurrected Nazi necromancers try to find a pocket watch containing Hitler's soul so they can bring him back from the dead?? Just saying it sounds ridiculous! These later seasons (but especially s12) have truly shown that the writers are running out of ideas.

Nazi theme is ok, but annoying girls are not
navinbalan9 September 2020
The episode is fine bringing back an old character only for a brief moment, but still, ok. The most annoying part about this episode was the girl, Ellie. She just wouldn't shut up. The typical damsel in distress that goes and does things you not supposed to do. If their idea was to get a really annoying girl. They got it right.

Pick 3 random tvtropes and let monkey write the script
alien106927 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
One of the very few episodes I've fallen asleep to. It's basically story how Hitler can be resurrected. When they show actual Hitler, they use this trope used with some very important characters before: all powerful being being pathetic, petty, with so many flaws that average suicidal person would actually feel much better in comparison. So they first diminish, bemoan and laugh at the powerful "boss" that will be summoned, and they just kill him. Imagine they instead resurrected Stalin and made him wear pink dress - yes, it's that bad. I think this episode was there to satisfy people after American Elections, as could be seen in one of the previous episodes "Make hell great again" quote. Bugs is 3x better than this episode.

Why should there be a Nazi's Episode in each season ?!
flyinganotheruniverse9 September 2019
Just wondering. Why ?! The plot and the characters was so naive. Lots of children TV shows/movies are much cleverer and smarter than this. Why waste money, time, and good talents on such bad episodes ?!

Good direction, tired plot
roeschgretchen2 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was excited to see that this episode was written by and directed by women, but once I saw it was about Nazis (again) my expectations plummeted. Destroying Hitler's Horcruxes? This must be on a fanfic site somewhere. And poor Ellie is written to be pretty unlikeable. Also, I'm not interested in seeing the son who was raised by bad guys plot anymore. They did it in Dark Dynasty and it wasn't very compelling then. Enough white rich boy redemption plots.

Yes, yes, we know...
elvira_mh-5570917 February 2019
...Nazi's are bad. When American (yes, those seem to be the only ones still doing this) shows tend to over-use the theme, it always feels to me like they've run out of material and go like "hey, we could just do another Nazi-episode!"

Won't be giving any spoilers, but when I rewatch Supernatural, I skip this episode.
