Iconic

Not only did this music video reference an iconic movie... the song was also iconic. Cheers to Iggy and Charlie XCX for making one hell of a song that transcends its time. Video somehow fits perfectly.

tribute to Clueless
I think the song sounds atrocious. I'm sorry, but Iggy, how can a white girl like you throw away your heritage to try sound like this?

I've just seen it again on "Now 28" a South African compilation DVD, after having encountered the song years ago on the Internet. Must have been doing research on CLUELESS, I'm a die-hard CLUELESS + Alicia Silverstone fan, but of course, not really a hip-hop fan (with exceptions on merit, believe me, when there's a goodie about in that genre, I go for it, but I'm easily put off by junky street punk types) and I was intrigued to see how one of my all- time favorite movies was brought back to life. Of course, kids today wouldn't even know about CLUELESS, they wouldn't be as uncool as to watch a (then) almost twenty year old movie. But they'd have an even bigger admiration for this music video if they did.

CLUELESS was a seminal movie that brought "kidspeak" to the fore. It had a tremendous influence on me. I'm an old guy now, since those days I have realized that the heroine in my story (I'm an unpublished novelist) should speak "young" like Cher Horowitz, the lead CLUELESS character. Cher was already with Me Generation sensibilities but still with good old-fashioned values. What I an trying to say while boring the hip-hoppers to flowing tears is that CLUELESS would still today speak to a very wide audience, the young & fashionable. It's a timeless classic.

But to get back to the main subject. Iggy Azalea's version. I like and dislike. I like her take on Alicia Silverstone, you rock, girl, you freakin' do. The scenes copying CLUELESS, the BMW on the freeway with the tailgating heavy truck, the classroom scenes, especially with the copied dress, the cellphones in the hallway scenes, with the other copied outfit (but the girl herself doesn't even nearly come to Stacey Dash's standard), the computerized wardrobe, everything, magnificently done! Like I said, brought the original movie back to life!

Unfortunately, lots of what is sang sounds like trashy gibberish. Oo dat I-G-G-Y bit. I'm really sorry, kid, you lose me there, I prefer a good honest All-American sound. I like the way you look, don't quite agree with the way you act, and, definitely, for the most part here, not with the way you sound.

But it's very, very interesting. Pity that few of the kids jumping about to it would really know about the fun- filled cute "old" movie that inspired the music video. Their freakin' loss.

A late encounter: Iggy Azalea's timeless classic
siue-8972118 July 2023
Only recently did I stumble upon "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, and it felt like unearthing a time capsule of audacious femininity. Despite years on its release, the track is anything but stale - it's a fresh gust of retro charm, wrapped in modern sassiness. Azalea's brazen raps coalesce with Charli's irresistible chorus to create a vibrant soundscape that demands attention. The music video's homage to "Clueless" is a delightful cherry on top, accentuating the song's cheeky flamboyance. Even with the passage of time, "Fancy" retains its empowering punch and brash glamour, reinforcing the timeless essence of bold womanhood.
