The X Factor isn't very original every year. It's a repetitive formula with similar singers having success year in and year out.

But I still get excited when it returns. It is just a fun show to kick back and enjoy. We saw two potential stars here, first in the 15 year old Holly with a big voice and then in the final performer Grace Davies. Grace has that star quality and that unique voice like so many of the English singers I love.

Hoping this is a good series, but it surely got off to a fine start.

Same old, same old from Simon and co

You know the summer's over when 'X Factor' pops up again on TV, and here for the 14th series the circus that is the show begins again.

We've been promised changes galore by the judges in the press, but at this audition stage apart from the fact that contestants can now sing their own songs, everything seems very much the same.

People will still watch this show, it's become a fixture of Saturday nights, but it is undoubtedly past its peak, and has become a shadow of what it once was.
