Feel like the writing is not as good this season
nfire-297413 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Seems like the writing is complicated when it doesn't need to be, and simple when it could be more complex/interesting. Everything that happens, you can see coming. No surprises with episodes anymore.

Self pity fest.
KhunKai27 November 2020
Another episode in season 5 with a self pity fest you have never seen before. I can only guess the reason the actors did not walk out of the set, was due to their contracts. Dear God, how bad is this!

Bridget is the worst actor ever and worst character
Fargomoviecritic5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Great job in developing an annoying and terrible character in Bridget. She is a sleezy teen and everyone knows she is the reason they cancelled this show. Terrible writing and terrible new characters. Susan Sarandon is such a B in real life and on this show.

Great to see oldfave back

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert.

Avi returns. And, man, he's in rough shape. Not as bad as physically as being tortured by the Russians, but in a way worse place mentally. As much as I find the Frank-Avi backstory contrived, it does give the season a low-level villain who has been a pain-in-the-keister to Ray since the beginning, Frank Barnes of the LAPD.

The Bunchy plot line is relentlessly unbelievable, and Bridget is still annoying. But the flashbacks to Abby and Ray do work, despite Ray never being at all reflective before Abby's death. That's the point, I suppose. Ray is mellowed now, and not in a good way.

Susan Sarandon as Samantha Winslow is, so far, rather boring. I find her storyline a snoozer and I don't care a bit about her fate. The didacticism about Hollywood has been there from the start but it's really heavy handed here. "They come here broken. They get rich and famous - and stay broken." FFS

Terry and Damon go to NYC, which is kinda cool.

The best stuff belongs to Mickey, again, who is now fixing not only Avi but Bunchy too.

So far the weakest season - no female lead - but the leads carried my interest even if the storylines don't.

Bernadette is the worst person and character in this show
Fargomoviecritic5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The writer and character development of Ray's daughter can't get any worse? Oh she sleeps with a cancer patient she just met, what kind of character or person does that? Sleezy and not smart is what her character is. She sleeps with her teacher the season before and now she is smoking pot and slutting around? Teri me character and the most annoying character in this show. Why couldn't Bernadette get Cancer? That would have drawn rave reviews. No that the show is cancelled we are all better off with this crappy writing and terrible story lines. Soft and boring is the new theme for this sorry sack of a show. I am bound to watch the rest to see how bad it gets. It lasted two more seasons after this, must have been a contract because this season is a crock!
