Rufus saves the day. He finds old metal items to make equipment to repair the shot-up lifeboat.
Rufus, shouldn't you take along extra tools and stuff before you leave your launch pad? That would seem normal.

Why didn't we see a normal beginning where the ground crew send off the flight crew on the latest adventure in chasing Flynn? We would usually then see the crew being put in period costume, then buckling up in the lifeboat on their way to their next adventure.
I figure more story time spent back in the time period was the reason that the regular preliminary protocols were not followed. Instead of the trio adjusting their heads getting ready for the takeoff, we find them at the beginning running from the bad guys.
Right away, I was hoping George Washington would come and rescue them, or at least an early form of James Bond. No such luck. No shaken, not stirred.
