Just what I needed

I felt like this is the perfect film to show to a progressive Christian family member if one is trying to both come out as non-religious and preserve the mutual respect and love that exists in other areas within the family dynamic.

For a while now I've been in the uncomfortable atheist stage of being unsure how to present my dad and mom with the facts of how I'm no longer religious. Now that I've seen this film on Amazon Prime I intend to share it with my Christian father and see what happens. I get the impression that he's the one who will be more accepting than my mom. I've dropped a lot of hints, so I doubt he'll be surprised. But he still might be surprised. So I hope it goes well.

I think the movie does a pretty fair job of letting both the father and son present their case for their position. I felt they both had likable moments. And I really respected the respect and love they showed each other. Far too often there are stories of parents disowning their kids when they leave the family's faith. I hope that this film can provide an example of how it's possible to set religion aside and remember that there if far more to every person than the religion they say they identify or don't identity with.

Kudos to both of them and kudos to the mom as well. Even though she isn't interviewed, she has a positive presence within the story.

I give it a 9 just because there were a couple moments where I wish the humanist had answered or addressed somethings a bit differently. But overall I'm very glad I saw it. And I hope it will yield good results for me and my parents as we enter a new stage in our association with each other.
