Ruby Wax OBE had endured a difficult upbringing as an only child of Austrian Jewish parents who fled Vienna to America on the brink of war. Ruby thought horribly of her parents until now. Her father endured imprisonment for being Jewish and was tortured. Her mother suffered from hysteria. We learn about Ruby's maternal history. We don't know much about her father's family but he and his wife escaped certain death by fleeing to America. Ruby's reactions to her family's mental health history and her parents fleeing the Holocaust seem genuine and real. By the way, England isn't Europe anymore. Ruby escaped her parents for a life abroad. She has done well but her mental illness seems to be hereditary too. The hour was surprisingly entertaining and enlightening as well to understanding Ruby Wax. I wished they would investigate her father's family history.
