GOLDEN DART HERO is an obscure little martial arts flick from mainland China that was made back in 1987. The only available copies in the west are badly dubbed and have a terrible picture quality. However, this turns out to be a mildly enjoyable little picture. The budget is slightly higher than I was expecting and some of the massed pitched battle sequences are a precursor to the later lavishness of films like SAVING GENERAL YANG. The electric opening scene has a man executed by a corrupt magistrate while his adopted brother rides against time to rescue him. The film soon turns into a small-scale war movie as our hero and his followers wage battle after battle against the bad guy and his army. The sound effects tend to leave something to be desired - the clash of sounds is represented by what sounds like somebody jangling a bunch of keys - but otherwise this is okay for what it is.
