but I have questions
Rob-O-Cop23 March 2020
Still loving this series but a couple of points. Not enjoying the new version of the theme music, the original version was much better at getting us in the right head space for outlander. Also Claire throwing the wobbly over Jamie's attempts to track and trap Bonnet with the ring. Did she forget she started it? Why react so over the top about it? Just say, nah, we got to get him but this isn't a very good idea, lets come up with a different plan. Why question Jamie's motivations? Why not question her own since she started the days Bonnet proceedings. I'm not entirely sure what they're trying to set up but it didn't work very well. Otherwise it was great, really loving this series and mostly it keeps up the high standard. Even Roger came across as interesting this episode. Philip Wylie added a nice level of creepiness and danger.

Season 5 Continues To Be Great!!
CardsColtsFan23 March 2020
I felt for Jocasta so much. Maria did an amazing job.

I loved the tension between Jamie and Claire.

While the situation at the Ridge felt a tad out of place, Bree and Roger were on the same page and handled the locust outbreak as an amazing united front. And now Roger has the men's respect now. He's redeeming himself in my eyes after last season. He hasn't completely yet, but he's well on his way.

Excellent episode. An episode of Outlander as we know it! Captivating, moving, breathless and several narrative frames that unfold at the same time. Excellent acting. 10/10

Blown away

Warning: Spoilers
By far, this is my favorite episode this season. It was nice to see Roger take a heroic stance and save the ridge. He isn't my favorite character, but I had to love him in this.

Murtagh's confession of devotion left me in tears. To see him so vulnerable instead of his usual stoic self was heart rending.

The scene between J/C in the stables was reminiscent of season one. It had vibes of the epic argument by the river.

The last scene had hints of Stephen Bonnet evil deeds to come.

The writers managed to cram so much in such a short amount of time. Kudos to all of the cast and crew.

The Episode Greatly Exceeding the Source Material
jmansmannstjohnslrev29 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In Fiery Cross, the marriage of Jocasta Cameron to Duncan Innis is an event that lasts what seems like forever spanning several hundred pages. The showrunners do a fantastic job truncating this event and shifting events to fit the wedding into the story being told, with the focus on Bonnet making quite a bit of sense all things considered. I have to say, all of the plot lines are really well done. It's nice to see Roger and Brianna finally working together to solve a problem, especially for Roger whose manhood and usefulness is often challenged by the 18th century men around him, Jaime in particular. Murtagh and Jocasta as well. Their story is particularly heartbreaking, as Jocasta simply has endured too much pain to risk her heart being broken again.

I think the best part about this episode is that you really get to see Jocasta and Claire compared with one another. I find some of the most fascinating episodes are when you see two characters who have many similar qualities and how their differences impact their lives and those around them. Claire and Jocasta are both strong and independent women, both have endured the loss of children, and tremendous emotional pain yet are survivors at their very core. Both are fiery, unafraid to do battle in a world dominated by men. And yet, much as Claire and Jenny are two strong-willed but different characters, Jocasta and Claire have a major difference as well that you see in this episode.

Claire is a match for Jaime in that she puts herself at risk. She's outspoken to a fault, unconcerned with civility, and often unafraid to put herself in the line of fire. Claire is the person who will go into the stables with Wylie alone, who will risk everything to go back in time for Jaime, who will challenge the accepted wisdom of the time at risk to herself. She's strong-willed and a survivor, but one who will put herself at risk and speak her mind. Jocasta is a survivor as well, but a different kind. A kind that will marry a man she doesn't love and spurn a man she does care for to protect what she has. A woman who will quietly position herself if a place of power rather than brazenly speak her mind.

And of course, this episode also harkens back to Season 2, and the idea of putting a desire for revenge above family but with an interesting twist. In Season 2, it was Claire that puts Frank existence ahead of Jaime and her child. She takes blame after Faith's death, because she knew what Randall did to Jaime, why he needed to fight him and why he needed revenge. She had insight and knowledge of Jaime's heart yet put Frank's existence ahead of her family in the 18th century. While the same situation is presented here, Jaime seeking revenge on his daughter's behalf (and revenge against Wylie for his inappropriate advances) the opposite is true. Jaime has inside knowledge this time, into what the gold ring means to Claire, as to why she wears it and why it is special. Jaime's acknowledgment of this is why I think their relationship is so strong, his ability to accept Frank's part in Claire's life while knowing her heart is his. And yet he is willing to risk hurting Claire for no other reason than revenge. Not to keep Brianna safe, not to do it for her sake, but because he wants to see the menace dead. It's understandable, and I don't think Jaime can be faulted, but it's these exchanges these conflicts that make Season 5 compelling as the characters are constantly challenged and posed with difficult choices that could hurt those around them.

Season 5 is tremendous and all the storylines in this episode are expertly told, expertly acted and resonate.

You gotta luv shiny Captain Roger. The best episode ever!
FrankensteinBarbie22 March 2020
Roger stood tall and straight in Episode 6. He has revealed himself to be a great farmer and I luv him for it. Jaime is gonna make him a Major as soon as he returns. No need for polished boots when your tending crops.

Art at its best
lluca-4774819 August 2020
Another piece of art in Season 5! Well written and intense dialogues, requiring the best performance from all actors involved. The wild love scene in the stable is the best acted love scene I've seen in any show. Rarely have I seen so many intense one-on-one scenes like in this episode, Season 5 seems to be a big promise on that (Season 4 was excelling too, so far).

I'm such a fan of Outlander. This was a great episode. Jamie and Claires scene in the stables was not a hot as the book but I still loved it. Will Aunt Jocasta marry Duncan after Murtagh went to see her. I hope she calls off the wedding. Can't wait to see 507.

Needed some rewriting
darkdementress2 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I can tell the difference between this season with the new producer and the previous ones. The way Clair reacts to Jamie about Bonnet is strange.. She never had any objections to going after him before and was right in the middle of it again before Jamie asked for her rings. I understand she values them but she would definitely trust her husband more. How many times has he proven himself to her and saved her life or they both agreed on risky gambles that were his idea? The next and worse issue i have is when they are in the stable and Jamie blatantly insults Clair and this makes her want to have sex with him? Aweful! Jamie has never and would never insult Clairs gender to prove a point. In fact he's defended her gender and womanly ways before, even at risk to his own reputation. Their sex was always brought on by respect, passion, love and appreciation of each other. The writers/director/producers should of found a completely different way of initiating this sexual incounter. Watching it made me feel sick.

Kezzie's A+ perfomance!!
kimkimtim22 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My heart jumped when Kezzie appeared on the screen and helped Roger prepare for the bees. The way he exquisitely manipulated the shovel in his delicate yet rugged hands and used it to fill a bucket with poop was amazing! My eyes filled with tears when he shyly offered Brianna his only pair of pants to use as a fan. He's such a sweet boy and so eager to assist any way he can, even if it means going pantless again.

They just don't make boys like that anymore. I'm so happy his voice has returned. Claire's surgery last week was a success! 50 stars for Kezzie!!

One of the worst episodes in the whole series. Unnecessary plots, rape attempts as always and worst lines of conversation. Total filler

Some interesting things here, but I felt like it was an unnecessary deviation from what was going on at home. It also feels weird seeing Jamie with so much power.

Very bad writing
sja-awesome5 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Some of season 4 was passable but season 5 has just slipped into complete and uttered delusional nonsense. Sign of bad writing is the character suddenly acts completely out of character and do things that they're personalities and previous backed stories would never let them do. People who don't understand emotions love relationships etc write these sort of things into shows and expect us to just bow and scrape and burst into tears at the grandiosity of it all! All the filler nonsense that happens back at Fraser ridge with Brianna and Roger. Zzzz.. oh look more nonsense about how Rogers a failure of a man and pathetic and can't live up to Jamie.. My lord give it a rest. The scene with the over-the-top dramatic dandy guy is just bizarre and then the scene with Jamie insulting and belittling Claire which suddenly makes her want to jump his bones in a filthy stable is just gross and strange as heck. Ruined this show.

I'm confused...
aeellen20 September 2023
Why is it wrong for Jamie to want the man that raped bree dead?

Claire said Pride. What pride? Yes, Jamie said she was right but that's just script talkin...If I was raped and my father wanted to take care of business in self defense for my sake. I would not be saying what claire and bree said

This happened with bree a few episodes back when she tells her father that he can't be madder then her.

I'm like huh? I don't get it. I mean...she wants Jamie to sit and drink whiskey and not care? I mean you can't have your cake and eat it too.

What I think is weird....doesn't bree and claire want Bonnet dead?

Also, why the heck is Claire still wearing Franks ring? I mean Jamie says nothing about it...I'm sorry a man would, that's just fake tv for ya.

The abortion talk I skipped. What complete and totally garbage! Claire said her peace then nobody responded...haha, lol. Not real life btw. Abortion is murder in the first degree.

That's all you got, can't afford it...well, then stop! Why wait until your pregnant to do it?

What abortion allows women to do, is get EVERYTHING THEY WANT, without taking responsibility for their actions.

I can have sex, feel good, abort a child, diss the man that tells me he wants the baby. I can say..."my body my choice" I can also get away with murder and not have anything happen to me.

Yep, that sounds like a woman.
