Important

While I was not a fan of every couple on the show, I was very happy with Season 1. There were some editing issues but also some very cute and funny parts that the producers chose to use. I feel only certain parts of the LGBT community have been included in mainstream media and it's important to showcase more trans people and families. I hope the show continues with either these families or others.

Education is important after watching this first season I learned so much about the trans community. I learned about patients love understanding compromise and having a full heart. I hope there's a second and third season to this I really loved watching these couples on how they dealt with this information and the transition. We could all learn something from these families. Thank you for sharing in your life. I know it could not of been easy

SO IMPORTANT

Such an important show in today's world. Shows the true soul of those transitioning and the difficulties they go through. I loved the different couples and stages they all were at in coping with their changing relationships. Stacy and Leslie will forever be an inspirational couple. This show is a wonderful way of showing individuals how to be allies and how to see beyond stereotypes.

Extremely Important

Besides being educational, this show is also an inspiration to all of us, I myself am transgender been out completely since 2017, and i've been on hrt since Dec of last year as well. It's not always easy and some days are harder than most, but it does get easier with time, love, acceptance, and understanding. I want thank all the couples in this show for allowing all of us into their lives. Please TLC bring on another season of this show.

Informative and Humanizing, Heartbreaking and Heartwarming
gaawa_chan12 July 2018
What this show sets out to do, it does exceedingly well. Viewers are able to follow key events in these people's lives and see what they're going through, and interspersed throughout the show are the reactions of other people as well as informative sections with doctors, therapists, stylists, etc. As such, this show is great both for people who don't understand the emotional side of transgenderism and for those who are looking for factual information about the subject.

It is worth mentioning that I happen to know of one of the people in this show, so I asked a question of them before coming to review; aside from being asked to say stuff like "it's been x time since y happened and we are at x location doing y," there's nothing fake or scripted about the show, so if that's a concern potential watchers have, you can lay it to rest.

Most of the show focuses on the emotional aspect of transitioning and how it affects the cis wives in particular. One of the families is really hurting financially, something I think most Americans today can relate to. Three of the transitioning spouses are 40+ years old, and the show goes into the struggle of transitioning later in life. The show covers body dysphoria, child abuse, conversion therapy, relationships, depression, substance abuse, suicidal ideation and suicide, and divorce in a frank and honest manner, and shows both the strain and damage that hiding gender dysphoria puts on people and their relationships, as well as the positive effects transitioning has on people's lives.

I do have two issues with the show, but they are minor compared to what the show does well and one of them is just a matter of personal preference. I think that some of the editing may have resulted in a skewed depiction of conversations in a couple of scenes. There are some awkward jumps in conversations that seem to be trying to make a situations more tense than it already was, which I think is unnecessary. That said, if that is what is going on, it happens very rarely.

My other issue with the show is that there is a lot of time spent on scene transitions. When switching from one family to another, there are shots of the region in which that family lives with music, and while the footage is beautiful, I would have much rather had fast transitions without music so that the show had more screen-time for the people. If we get another season, I hope it has shorter scene transition sequences so we get more meat from each episode.

I would very much like to see a second season, and I would also like it if they included more trans men. Trans men rarely get media coverage, and this show would be a great opportunity to show people the emotional and factual aspects of FtM transitions, something I myself know very little about.

L:ost In Transition

This show really shows what people go thru in transition. I have watched since episode 1. They all were amazing, and very informative of the day to day. I feel as though I know them, and learned alot of how difficult it is to not only tell their families but to open up to the world. I have laughed, cried, and cheered all of these wonderful people on, and hope a 2nd season will be filmed.

Incredible

Warning: Spoilers
Loved it. Very insightful and fascinating. I support anyone not Cis to do whatever it takes to be their authentic self. However, keeping your transgender-ness from your spouse is...well...it's lying. In this season, the wive's lives were turned upside down. In particular, the couple from OH, Bev & Karen. Karen seemed really glib and completely insensitive toward Bev. It's like Karen took advantage of Bev's compliant nature, and when she finally stood up for herself, Karen had the nerve to be mad. (Realize editing can do that.)

The Washington couple, Stacy (can't femember husband's name). I was so concerned about Stacy. She has absolutely forsaken her needs and I worry what will happen when she has had enough.

Great show, hope for additional seasons. It would be interesting to see if the cis husbands of transgender females are as understanding.
