Still a good show BUT...
mestberg1 October 2019
I'm excited to see how they conclude the series, but I am definitely not a fan of the adult Joanie storyline. It's dark and depressing, and we are left with no understanding of Joanie and why she is where she is now. But it is good to see Noah and Helen finally maturing and taking more responsibility for their lives. I hope the series goes out on a high note and doesn't delve too much into the Joanie storyline as we know nothing about what led to her journey. I can't believe Cole or Luisa would have been anything but competent parents, so I hope they explain why she's struggling now. Even so, it's hard to picture Anna Paquin as an adult Joanie. I believe they dropped the ball on that casting

A Birth, a Death and a Funeral (#5.01)

Warning: Spoilers
Although it felt more like an epilogue to last season's storylines rather than the start of something new, it was still fantastically done. The episode was interesting from start to finish and did not lose my interest once.

I especially liked Noah's conversation with Sasha in first of many steps to have Descent made into a film, Margaret's hilarious line to Noah and Janelle during the funeral, and Sierra's "natural birth", which quickly went from farcically funny to sad and heartfelt when Vik passed away at the moment of first holding his child, and the doctor pronounced "he knew".

And now - my favorite part was... the introduction to Joanie! I'm not sure why everyone was so confused by it, I found it rather straightforward and quite brilliant. Joanie is in a future timeline and now at the same age as Alison, and is beginning to ponder her mother's death. I believe that this will be the way for her to get justice for her mother and reveal that it wasn't a suicide, but rather murder by Ben.

What I'm looking forward to going forward is how the Descent movie will be handled, what's on the videotape that Vik left for Helen, seeing the role that Helen will play in baby Eddie's life, what will become of Bruce's sickness, and of course... what Joanie's next move will be.

Overall, this was a fantastic premiere!

You had me till Joanie

Totally confusing...had no idea who Joanie was until another episode...completely out of sync with the rest of the story lines...like a totally different TV show was accidentally edited in. Also, grown up Joanie looks nothing like little Joanie. Will fast forward through these futuristic episodes.

Wrapping up loose ends
FilmBuff04096 September 2019
This was much better than I was expecting. Going into this season I was worried that it would feel like something was missing. But after watching this first episode I have hope that this will be a satisfying final season. This episode didn't introduce much new material, just finished up what season 4 left us with and then we got an introduction from Joanie. There was never a dull moment in this episode. I am very impressed.

this is an amazing show

Warning: Spoilers
I just love this show and going into the last season, I will be sad when its over, the acting is just so good, the facial expressions of Noah (Dominic West) are fabulous and you feel what he is feeling, the hopelessness of his kids turning away from him all the time and him getting blamed for everything. the look on his face at the funeral sitting between Helen's parents, priceless ! but his character is a schmuck and an a-hole most of the time, so he deserves most of what he gets. and what a man-whore, geez.

Different

It's a totally different story line. They could have wrapped this up in season four. That said it was interesting and I liked it.

Several really poor taste scenes. Poor Tate and viewer should make their own decisions
