Alexandre Ingrevallo's "Desconhecido Íntimo" ("Intimate Stranger") is a courageous, vivid, positive and interesting experience that reveals some
truth about the human condition, our true desires and the fight for the ones we love, and above the real truth we can't deny which is the truth about ourselves.
The story of a conflicted young artist very open and confident about his sexuality but he struggles with his date, a man who refuses to leave his girlfriend and isn't all that interested on the guy, it's more like a casual thing he does on occasion. Why this particular area of life is so important to him, you may ask. Well, it is for all of us with some putting more effort into the issue than others but here we understand that he's to foccused on having a loving relatioship because he refuses to be like his parents, a stable couple whose love has died a long ago and the young man knows that his dead had to leave behind the love of his life, another man, and even the passion of his life which was the world of arts. All that matters is that doesn't want to be unhappy and his "boyfriend" is a helpful part of that but sadly he doesn't the courage to have that commitment.
It's not all that sad and blue, there are several positive moments (specially the resolution between the artist and his father, who sort of disapproves the son's relation with his "friend"), and also some excitment present in the early minutes of the film with the young guys, but this is before we find out the tragedy about their relation when one is very open-minded while the other just dreams about his girlfriend. Anyway, it's a curious filled with interesting and poignant reflections, it makes you think about your life, and the lives of many people you know who probably had endured simular situations and on a final note you can see how some films are very close to reality. 10/10.
