A new posthumous Johnny Cash album, Songwriter, filled with previously unreleased tunes written and performed by the Man in Black is set to arrive June 28 via Mercury Nashville/UMe.
The 11-track collection features songs Cash had written over many years, then finally put to tape during a demo session at Lsi Studios in Nashville in early 1993. But that project was ultimately scrapped after Cash met Rick Rubin and the two struck up a prolific creative partnership that lasted through Cash’s death in 2003.

An unreleased Johnny Cash album will finally see the light of day, thanks to his son John Carter Cash and a team of world-class country musicians. Titled Songwriter, the project was recorded in 1993, and will be released on June 28th via Mercury Nashville/UMe.
Songwriter features 11 songs written solely by Cash over the course of his then-40-year-long career. He made the album at Lsi Studios in Nashville during a period when he was between contracts, and it ultimately ended up shelved until his son, John Carter, and producer David “Fergie” Ferguson sought to finish it with a group of musicians who played with Cash, including Marty Stuart, Pete Abbott, the late Dave Roe, and others.
Today, ahead of the album’s release, Cash’s estate shared the single “Well Alright,” a classic story-telling song with an even-more-classic country arrangement, even down to the tinny lead guitar, train-shuffle beat, and folksy,...

Black Noir isn’t the only supe making a surprise reappearance in The Boys season 4.
The first official trailer for the upcoming season reveals not only Black Noir alive and well in The Seven after his death the end of season 3, but also someone who looks a lot like Queen Maeve. We know that Maeve (Dominique McElligott) is still alive, albeit totally powerless, after fighting Soldier Boy. She used the fight to fake her death so she could escape Vought once and for all. To them and the rest of the world, Queen Maeve is dead.
So who is the lookalike in the season 4 trailer? While there hasn’t been confirmation of this new Maeve’s role, it doesn’t seem like she’s a replacement for Maeve in The Seven like Black Noir’s is. Her outfit is more bejeweled than practical (though that hasn’t stopped Vought before...

The Boys will introduce a brand-new replacement for Black Noir in The Seven for Season 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
The Season 3 finale delivered one of the series' most shocking moments after Homelander killed his fellow Seven supe Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell).
The brutal murder took place after Homelander discovered Black Noir, the member of the Seven he trusted most, knew he had a father out there in Soldier Boy who he had never known about until Season 3.

"The Boys" has come a long way over the years. In 2006, it debuted as a comic book series under the comic book imprint WildStorm. After it was abruptly canceled, the series was then picked up by Dynamite Entertainment, who continued to publish the comics until its conclusion in 2012. Although it's been over a decade since the main story ended, "The Boys" has continued to grow through spinoff comics and web series. In July 2019, the franchise got the live-action treatment through an Amazon Prime Video series. After four years, it's still going strong on the streaming platform with a fourth season on the way.
In fact, "The Boys" has been so successful that Prime Video expanded the universe with its first-ever spinoff series, "Gen V." The show, which premiered on Sept. 29 and concluded on Nov. 3, features a new set of wild Supe characters played by Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Chance Perdomo,...

Actor Jensen Ackles switched up his schedule so he could reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the “The Boys” spinoff, “Gen V,” at the request of the series’ showrunner Michele Fazekas, and its executive producer, Eric Kripke, the two told TheWrap in an interview.
“We needed a marquee character to come in to be like our heroes’ guide within [Cate’s, played by Maddie Phillips] dream,” Kripke explained.
Spoiler alert: This post contains plot details from Episode 6 of “Gen V”
In Episode 6 — titled “Jumanji” — viewers see Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh) and Andre (Chance Perdomo) travel through Cate’s mind in hopes of discovering more about Godolkin University’s secret lab the Woods, as well her involvement with it. After seeing a replay of Cate’s traumatic childhood with her mother, they are pleasantly (or unpleasantly) surprised by an appearance from “The Boys” character Soldier Boy, who pops up...

One constant among the universe of "The Boys" is that there will always be a non-supe or two at the top of the corporate chain, surviving not through physical strength but through sheer self-preserving strategy. The main show currently has Stan Edgar, a cold-hearted businessman who is inexplicably unfazed by Homelander's many threats over the years. Does Edgar have something up his sleeve, or is he really just that tough and immovable? We still don't know for sure.
On the spin-off's side of things, we have Indira Shetty, the university's new dean, who manages to keep these supe students in line despite knowing that most of them could destroy her with relative ease. And unlike Edgar, Shetty isn't entirely capable of hiding her emotions; a few weeks back the supe detective Tek Knight was able to figure out one of her secrets just from the subtle signs in her body language.

A lot of false rumors spread quickly because, while they may not have any supporting evidence, we can all kind of see the reasoning behind them. For instance, people believe the rumor that the killers in "Scream 2" were changed at the last second because that's the impression the movie itself gives. More recently, people believed that viral story of Jerry Seinfeld chastising Jimmy Fallon for being rude to his employee because, well, it sounded like the sort of thing both guys would do.
On the same note, it's easy to see how people believed that Jensen Ackles, the beloved actor who played Dean Winchester on "Supernatural" and Soldier Boy on "The Boys," once auditioned for the role of Captain America. The role, which would instead be taken up by Chris Evans, is exactly the sort of character we know Ackles could play: He's a strong, noble super-soldier, one without...

One of the exciting things about TV spin-offs is that there's always the potential for crossover characters and cameos, and it sounds like the upcoming "The Boys" spin-off, "Gen V," will have no shortage of them! Entertainment Weekly recently revealed that there are at least a handful of characters who will make appearances in "Gen V," ranging from some of the parent series' sillier side characters to members of The Seven themselves. The new series, which debuts later this month on Prime Video, will follow students at the prestigious Godolkin University, a college run by the villainous Vought Corporation to shape young supes into the future faces of the company. The show's collegiate setting means there probably won't be any visits from any of the Boys themselves, who try to avoid being in Vought territory if they can help it, but it doesn't exclude any of the Vought-friendly folks from showing their faces,...

The superhero satire series that fired shots at both Marvel and DC with impunity, Prime Video's "The Boys," is about to debut its own spin-off show with the college-set "Gen V." The irony of taking the exact same approach to expanding the franchise that its big-screen brethren would certainly approve of isn't lost on me (is it only a matter of time before we get something like a Soldier Boy spin-off/prequel series?), but the footage revealed in the most recent blood-soaked trailer sure doesn't seem to be following in the footsteps of conventional superhero projects. If "Gen V" turns out anything like its parent series, we can expect plenty of snark, violence, unapologetic political commentary, and blisteringly accurate jokes aimed directly at all of us who will flock to the theaters for "Avengers: Secret Wars."

Prime Video series "The Boys" has already gleefully shown the horrors that can unfold when humans are given superpowers, pumped-up egos, and zero consequences for their actions. Now, a new trailer has dropped for college-focused spin-off series "Gen V," which will combine all of those dangerous ingredients with the inexperience and poor impulse control of supes who have only just become legal adults.
"Gen V" is set at Godolkin University, colloquially known as "God U," an institution founded and operated by Vought International for training and talent-scouting young superheroes. The school's alumni include members of Vought's elite, top-branded superhero team, the Seven, and the promise of those rich rewards creates fierce competition among the students -- competition that, as we've seen in previous trailers, can turn deadly.
The spin-off will intersect with the events of "The Boys" season 3, which means it takes place in the wake of season 2's public revelation that supes are made,...

The Boys is expected to have many of its core characters return for the series’ fourth season. But how many newcomers will the series add to its roster of Supes and bad guys?

Much of The Boys season 4 is still being kept under wraps. But a few details have come out about the series’ next chapter that have only intensified the hype. According to Variety, it was announced last year that Valorie Curry and Susan Hayward would be added to the cast. The two will be playing Supes Firecracker and Sister Sage respectfully, and according to the showrunner, they’ll fit right in with The Boys’ chaotic universe.
“These new Supes are some of the best & craziest ever written for The Boys,” showrunner Eric Kripke once said according to Games Radar.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting word about the release of The Boys season 4, but creator Eric Kripke said that the wait might be longer than expected.
Eric Kripke took to Twitter to offer an update on The Boys season 4 release date. He said that it all depends on how long the WGA strike lasts. “When #Season4 drops depends on how long the #WGA Strike goes,” Kripke wrote. “No answer yet. Tell the studios to make a fair deal!” I’d wager that most fans are perfectly fine waiting longer if it means the writers will get a fair deal at the end of this.

When Erin Moriarty reflects on “The Boys'” third season as a whole, the first thing that comes to mind is the powerful scene when her character, Starlight/Annie January, quits the superhero team known as The Seven. “Playing that character gave me so much … sympathy for everyone that we judge when we look at situations they’re in and come to harsh conclusions,” she tells me. “I think that you’ve got to respect the process she’s been through, even if it includes things that one would deem amoral.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Jensen Ackles, Danneel Ackles, and their production company Chaos Machine are entering a first-look TV deal at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.
The Ackles and Chaos Machine were previously under a first-look deal at Warner Bros. Television. It was reported in October 2022 that they had extended the Wbtv deal for another two years, but they have now exited that deal for Amazon.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the Ackles and Wbtv parted ways on good terms and any projects Chaos Machine had in development with their now former studio home remain in the works. The Wbtv deal was solely a producing deal, while the Amazon deal covers both acting and producing.
The new deal marks an extension of the relationship between Jensen and Amazon, as he previously starred in Season 3 of the streamer’s hit series “The Boys” as Soldier Boy.

This article contains spoilers for season 3 of "The Boys."
Eric Kripke's Prime Video series "The Boys" has always been brutal, but season 3 was especially violent, killing off major characters or wounding them permanently. That's saying something when you take into account the fact that many of the characters are superhuman and incredibly tough to kill, but season 3 saw a whole lot of them kick the bucket.
Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), in particular, went through hell in the finale, losing an eye in the battle with Homelander (Antony Starr) and losing her powers in the battle with Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). It looked like she died, but she miraculously survived, albeit as a normal, non-superpowered human with some pretty nasty injuries. This was a change from the character's fate in the comics, but it made a lot of sense given the changes to the character in general and her impressive arc over the three seasons.

Generally speaking, it's sound advice to never take work home with you. That advice should probably be considered a requirement for the cast and crew of "The Boys." The superhero satire has never once pulled its punches from depicting some of the grossest, most disturbing, and abjectly violent imagery to grace (curse?) our television screens in recent memory. When the latest season focused on the increasing threat of a Superman analogue with a sociopathic thirst for validation and power (Antony Starr's Homelander), a spoof on Captain America who lacks any and all sense of morals (Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy), and an Aquaman riff (Chace Crawford's The Deep) who comes with a laundry list of personal failings and flaws, well, that's just the nature of the beast.
The Deep started out as an utterly unsympathetic sexual predator and has since "progressed" to the butt of everyone's joke. He's still glaringly...

The cast of The Boys and showrunner Eric Kripke have filed into the Den of Geek SXSW interview studio to discuss their festival appearance and the triumphant release of season 3’s much-anticipated trailer. But as Kripke, Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko Miyashiro), and Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) take their places on the hopefully comfortable stools we’ve provided, the conversation eventually goes to where most conversations about The Boys inevitably end up: the verisimilitude of superhero orgies.
“It all comes from this very logical place of ‘if there really was a superhero orgy, what would it look like? How would you depict it in the most honest way possible?’” Kripke says. “Because we’re all about integrity here. We’re just telling the truth, man.”

Jensen Ackles has been flirting with superherodom his entire career.
The Texas-born actor first became well known to TV audiences thanks to a handful of superhero adjacent roles in the early 2000s. First he portrayed super soldier Alec McDowell a.k.a. X5-494 on Fox’s ahead-of-its-time Dark Angel and then acted opposite none other than Superman as Lana Lang’s love interest Jason Teague on Smallville. He would go on to voice Jason Todd in animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood and the Dark Knight himself in Batman: The Long Halloween.
Of course, that’s not even to mention his most iconic role – that of the demon-hunting Dean Winchester on Supernatural, who alongside his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) was only a costume and grandiose name away from being a comic book supe.
With the arrival of The Boys season 3, however, Ackles is finally doing this superhero thing properly.

The long wait for The Boys Season 3 is almost over.
Prime Video on Monday unveiled the full-length trailer for the forthcoming season, and it's as bloody as you would expect.
We'll start with the Homelander of it all.
“There’s something wrong with Homelander. There’s something broken. He’s lost his f–king mind,” Starlight shares.
He's obviously still reeling from the events of The Boys Season 2 and concedes that he picked the wrong side.
Where did this very different version of Homelander come from?
We don't know, but his actions in the trailer suggest there's more going on than meets the eye.
“I am very excited for everyone to meet the real me,” he declares to the press.
There's obviously a lot of drama for everyone after what happened, but one thing's for sure:
The series is going to be crazier than ever.

Soldier Boy certainly is no Superman.
In the latest trailer for Season 3 of Prime Video’s “The Boys,” premiering June 3, new supe Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) makes his debut — complete with a bloody murder sequence by plowing his shield into the face of a presumed baddie.
Set one year since the events of the critically acclaimed Season 2, “The Boys” kicks off with Homelander (Anthony Starr) completing his apology tour for “falling in love with the wrong woman” — ahem, an ageless Nazi named Klara Risinger, aka Stormfront (Aya Cash), who helped found the sinister Vought conglomerate — and Hughie (Jack Quaid) becoming a senior analyst for the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs.
Meanwhile, Butcher (Karl Urban) is applauded for not killing supes and laying off the booze. That is, until Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) presents Butcher with vials to make him a superhero for just 24 hours a time to properly put a...

Going into season 3, The Boys has quite a few lingering questions to answer. What’s next for Vought and the Church of the Collective? Will Hughie (Jack Quaid) ever discover that his new boss Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is a brain-exploding supe? Can Butcher (Karl Urban) adapt to his new paternal role in raising the powerful young Ryan?
Through much of Prime Video’s surprisingly plentiful and revealing marketing material, the show has teased out the answers to many of those questions and more. One query, however, has not really been addressed: How’s Homelander (Antony Starr) doing?
Vought Corporation’s ubermensch is not always entirely mentally sound, even on the best of days. But going into season 3, Homelander is decidedly far from the best of days. The man formerly known as John fell in love with a dashing new feminist hero Stormfront (Aya Cash) in season 2 only to...

It’s time to level the f**king playing field, according to Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) in the latest Season 3 look at Prime Video‘s mega-hit The Boys. In a newly released trailer plus key art, below, viewers are getting a fuller look at the show’s latest chapter which has plenty of changes in store including the introduction of quite a few characters among which are Jensen Ackles‘ Soldier Boy. But first, Homelander (Antony Starr) is kicking off his apology tour as he attempts to rehab his image following Stormfront’s (Aya Cash) Nazi ties reveal in Season 2. “I’m just a man who fell for the wrong woman,” Homelander says, repeating the same thing over and over again to various press. But his restrained and obviously scripted statements don’t ring true when he’s alone. Starlight (Erin Moriarty) tries conveying the danger to someone over the phone,...

The first trailer for Prime Video’s “The Boys” Season 3 has finally arrived, and in it, Homelander (Antony Starr) seems more unhinged than normal.
As the trailer opens, he seems to be on a campaign-like apology tour across the media, at another point he’s milking a cow, at still another, he’s tossing people off of buildings. And, as he begins to express himself more and more, he decides it’s time to show the world “the real me,” he says in the trailer.
Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, a newcomer for the third season of the Prime Video show, seems to have bloodlust as he uses his shield to bludgeon someone in another big moment from the trailer.
Meanwhile, Hughie (Jack Quaid) seems to be working for the authorities, while Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is up to his old tricks, that is until he runs into Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott...

According to Eric Kripke, showrunner of Prime Video’s stylish superhero satire The Boys, the show’s writing staff never goes into a given episode or season with the intention of upping the violent ante.
“We genuinely don’t have conversations about trying to top ourselves,” Kripke tells Den of Geek during the show’s appearance at SXSW 2022. “I think it’s dangerous because if you’re working to go bigger and bigger it’s an unsustainable pattern. Eighty percent of the conversation in the room is ‘how do we go deeper with the characters and how do we put them through existential crises?.’”
There’s no reason to doubt Kripke and the writers’ room sincerity. Commitment to character development plays a role in any show’s appeal, but particularly The Boys. Adapted from an equally violent comic of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys...

"The Boys" are back, baby, for a brand new season of superhero-inspired mayhem! The red-band trailer for season 3 of Amazon Prime's hit series is finally here, and it packs a bigger punch than even Homelander (Antony Starr) could lay claim to.

In addition to its many other charming qualities, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is a very chatty show. The show’s lead, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), is particularly loquacious, providing enough profanity-laced quotes to fill up a whole coffee table book. So when a new trailer arrives completely devoid of dialogue, you know the show is serious about the action therein.
Today Prime Video unveiled the first official trailer for The Boys season 3 in advance of the cast’s appearance at SXSW 2022. There isn’t a single line uttered in the trailer (other than one “yeah!”) but it speaks volumes all the same. Give it a look below to see what we mean.
Well, that’s a lot to unpack! Put aside for a moment the fact that that montage of season 3 clips includes no fewer than three exploding human bodies (and one exploding head for good measure), and focus on the character implications.

They’re back! The Boys are gearing up for another completely wild chapter of vigilante-on-Supe conflict as Prime Video unveiled its first Season 3 teaser. Set to return Friday, June 3, The Boys teaser was released during the show’s SXSW panel, moderated by Diabolical voice performer Christian Slater and featuring series showrunner Eric Kripke alongside some of the cast. The nearly two-minute preview serves up some major surprises as it makes way for the introduction of Jensen Ackles‘ Soldier Boy and a major transformation for Karl Urban‘s Billy Butcher who appears to be dabbling with Supe-making-substance Compound V. (Credit: Prime Video) Expect, blood, guts, sex, and stress to play a role in the Prime Video hit’s latest season as all topics feature heavily in the brief segment set to Imagine Dragons’ new song “Bones.” Along with introducing us to Soldier Boy, Laurie Holden’s Crimson Countess also makes an...

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys” received five 2021 Primetime Emmy nominations on Tuesday for its second season, including the much-coveted nod for Outstanding Drama Series. And in a complete contrast to his genre-busting superhero TV series, creator and showrunner Eric Kripke is filled with the most conventional emotions an honoree can hold on a day like today.
“Amazon definitely put forward a really badass campaign. And in our internal conversations, we would say, ‘You know, if you scratch beneath the surface of the superhero thing, there’s a lot going on here that feels worthy of some recognition,'” Kripke told TheWrap just a couple hours after the Television Academy revealed the list of nominees for its 73rd awards show. “But no, I never expected this at all. I mean, at the end of the day, I was really hoping we’d get some technical Emmys, because my team is just doing incredible work.

There’s a common adage in the acting profession that one should never think of a villainous character as a villain. Nobody in real life believes they’re the bad guy, so why should the fictional world be any different?
Surely, however, there have to be some exceptions to that rule. Like, what if a character is the spitting metaphorical image of American fascism – draped in a red, white, and blue flag, shooting lasers out of his eyes, and refusing to lift a super-powered finger to save a crashing airplane? What about then? Well, according to The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, series star Antony Starr has no problem finding the humanity within the sociopathic Homelander.
In speaking with Deadline about The Boys season 3, Kripke relays how Starr bristles at the compliment from fans that he plays a great villain.

Are you ready to follow Jensen Ackles to his new role?
Amazon Studios has released the long awaited first-look of the former Supernatural star in the Soldier Boy supersuit for Season 3 of the hit series The Boys.
The Super Suit was designed by Laura Jean Shannon and concept artist Greg Hopwood.
When designing the Soldier Boy Super Suit, Shannon noted, “Soldier Boy is the original bad ass. "
"Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger."
"We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that.”
