The BRIT Awards 2019

Good enough I suppose, but all the hype that ITV put on this as being the best thing since sliced bread falls very flat.

It passed the time, no more than that.

If it wasn't televised would anyone really care?

A sub-par awards ceremony struggling from the usual problems

Warning: Spoilers
The title "BRIT Awards 2019" is fairly telling and if you have seen a previous BRIT Awards edition, then you know roughly what to expect here. If not, let me elaborate a bit. This event was directed by Phil Heyes and there were really many writers working on it. I spare you the names in detail, feel free to check out the list yourself. The show ran for 105 minutes and the host was Jack Whitehall, apparently a British comedian and actor, and I must say I did not know him just like I didn't know most of the big awards winners that night. This includes The 1975, Little Mix (they cannot be that great if their career-defining number is a collab with Nicki Minaj), George Ezra and Jorja Smith. I heard of Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, but not too familiar with them either. However, there were also many artists in here that I have come across in the past, like Sam Smith, Craig David (like them both), Rota Ora, Florence and the Machine, Lily Allen and some of the international solo artists nominated. Let me say that I am not really a fan of awards shows that focus on a certain country or ethnicity only, but yeah here it was okay. i think they showed enough love for non-British artists too as a whole unlike stuff like the Black reel or BET Awards that really discriminate against everybody else. But lets not get into detail about that, instead focus on this one here. I mentioned the host already, well his lines on the likes of Prince Philipp and Wayne Rooney and a few others weren't bad, but sadly his line delivery was really lackluster, so he was pretty unfunny and I probably did not miss anything not knowing him. He's no young Stephen Fry, that much is safe. His interviews were also fairly boring. And there were more than just a few other struggles. The good news is they fit in all the awards I think, so it stays an awards show at its core, but there was still too much music and performances, could have kept it at 90 minutes or under by cutting out the forgettable. This also includes Ed Sheeran who is still painfully overrated and somebody said give him a knighthood, man really cringeworthy how people are appreciating him or his mediocre talent and music just because he does not look like all the other super known artists. Anyway, back to the show: I really cannot say too much about most winners and nominees simply because I don't know them, so I rate this show from the entertainment perspective. Was I well entertained? Most of the time not really. Pink (keep the ! oh wait she is too cool for the letter i right?) got like 20 minutes at the end if we count her awards and her uberlong performance and that was just way too much honestly. I may be baised because I have never been a great fan of hers and now that she is almost 40 she still isn't better than in her early 20s when she broke through. One number was okay, the rest was pretty forgettable. No idea why if they already give a non-British artist that honor they could not pick someone actually deserving. There's more then anough for that and this show eventually does nothing but increase Pink's overrated popularity even further. But there were rare good moments too. Hugh Jackmanw as wonderful as always and delivered the show's biggest highlight right at the beginning. Amazing song too that almost makes me want to rewatch The Greatest Showman. Let me also add that despite the movie mention I just made this show is only about music as the title does not really make it clear. Even when they honor a producer, they pick one from the music industry. Without other nominees by the way, which was another bad decision by the makers here. So many people are credited as writers for this award show that isn't even a month old now, but yeah too many cooks spoiling the brother is certainly true here. All in all, skip the watch. This is closer to a complete failure than to a good show. This also has to do with the shameless advertizing. I am seeing it more and more often that awards shows give brand names to particular awards and I find it really annoying. It happened many times during this show too. The greed is just too mich. Lets hope we will not get the Coco Cola Academy Award for Best Director at some point. Okay, I am drifting away, so let me end the review by saying that this one here gets 2 stars out of 5, which equals a negative recommendation. Sub-par awards show.
