The Musketeer (2001)
The Best Movie of the New Shool Year
I was excited about this movie ever since I saw the first preview in July. All I can say is that is was definitely worth the wait. When my mouth wasn't gaping, I was cheering.
This film is riding on its fight choreography and it has every right to. The "fight scenes" in this movie are incredible. I've never seen anything like it. I was worried they'd be unbelievable and over done, but they aren't. Everything that the characters do, looks as if they could actually be doing it. Wow!
The characters of "The Musketeer" were also well constructed; especially Tim Roth as Febre. This man was the bad guy that you absolutely love to hate. Bar none, this was the baddest villain of them all, without mercy, fear or doubt. I would not get in this man's path. The worst thing a bad guy can do is become good in the end. You won't see that happening here.
All in all, a complete success. I could simply not imagine anyone not liking this movie. A complete and total "10"!
American Outlaws (2001)
Don't Miss This
I went to this movie with two of my friends who don't like Westerns not expecting anything. In fact, I think we went just as an excuse to go for a drive somewhere after I got my driver's license. Now having seen "American Outlaws" I have only one thing to say: WOW! This movie is everything a good western could possibly be. Non-stop action, fire power, explosions and even your brief moments of romance. And my friends who don't like Westerns? They walked away gabbering about great this one was. We were all wonderfully surprised and have recommended this flick to everyone since. My advice: forget the Jesse James story (which we didn't know at the time) and just enjoy. My only complaint: there were all those cowboys and not one of them was wearing a black hat with a long black coat! A definite 10!
Titanic (1997)
Rent a movie where something happens instead.
I first saw this movie with my best friend who absolutely loved it. A few days later I showed her part of 'Aliens.' Neither of us can believe they were both made by the same guy. Forgive my bluntness but I think James Cameron really bombed with 'Titanic.' He almost saved it with the whole ship-sinking effects and the ten minutes of interesting story line but not quite. If it was up to me, I have to say that Cameron should go back to exciting movies with UNPREDICTABLE endings like his earlier works.
October Sky (1999)
The most inspirational movie of this generation.
This movie will inspire you to overcome any obsticle standing in the way of your ultimate goal or dream. It teaches us to look toward the stars and make the impossible possible. 'October Sky' is sure to jerk your emotions in a loop the loop of joy and sadness as it rekindles your spirit of adventure and your childhood beliefs of accomplishing the unaccomplishable.
Event Horizon (1997)
If this was the last movie on Earth, turn to TV.
This was probably one of the worst movies I've ever had the displeasure of watching. In fact the only movie that I can think of that could possibly be worse than 'Even Horizon' is 'The Dark Side of the Moon,' which, hopefully, you've never heard of. If at all possible avoid this movie completely, but if you are forced to watch it then hopefully you'll find the only good part of this movie, that you rented it instead of going to the theater.
Stargate (1994)
INCREDIBLE!
A good sci-fi movie needs more than a bunch of action shots, it needs plot, thought and delivery. If you're going to watch this movie do it with an open mind and use your imagination. If every thing was probable it might as well be a documentary instead of a science FICTION. A great rent for a rainy day.
Jurassic Park (1993)
You can't see a better movie.
'Jurassic Park' is probably the best movie ever made. It had me up against the back of my seat in the theater scared stiff. I've never seen a movie that caused you to fear for your own life as you watched it until I saw JP. There's only one other movie that can be compared to 'Jurassic Park' and that's 'Aliens.' I strongly recommend both. For anyone who hasn't yet seen this classic film, what are you waiting for? Just avoid the book, it pales in comparison.
FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)
A terrifying movie not fit for anyone under 12.
I first saw this movie when I was the age it was meant for... and it scared the crap out of me. Recently I watched it again with a friend. And even after watching horror flicks like 'The Thing,' 'The Exorcist' and bunch of other scary movies, this kid's animation still scared me a whole heck of a lot. DO NOT let your kid's see this movie until they're at least 12, unless you like you're tots having nightmares.
Aliens (1986)
The BEST sci-fi movie ever made!
If you love sci-fi, action or horror classics this film is for you. The cast and characters are incredible and so incredibly real you're either rooting for them to live or die.
Paul Reiser as Burke has made me hate him so profoundly that I can no longer watch 'Mad About You.' On the other hand performances by Bill Paxton (Hudson) and Michael Biehn (Hicks) have sent me off to try and rent more of their movies.
This is an incredible movie for anyone who loves movies. Non-stop action, incredible characterization and a villain so evil it's guaranteed to give you nightmares. Obviously the best of the ALIEN series it's only beaten by itself in the Special Edition.
'Aliens' will push you to the back of your seat in terror being one of the only two movies that has ever done this to me, the other being 'Jurassic Park.' This review does nothing for the overall power and impact of 'Aliens.'
