Game of Thrones (2011)
One of the best shows ever made!! .......Except season 8.....
Let me just start of by saying I am a HUGE fan of game of thrones, both the books and the show. I am also a very big fan of ALL the lore regarding Westeros and the story of the seven kingdoms and how it came to be.... I've watches many hours on YouTube learning about Aegon the conquerer eg, and how he escaped the doom of Valeria with his sister and later on conquered the seven kingdoms and forged the iron throne. Also the lore regarding fire and blood. My point is that there is just so much good history and story to be told and Game of Thrones did just that up until season 8, where they COMPLETELY butchered the entire show in my opinion.
Let me also say that I have rewatched this series 3 times before season 8 and 2 times with season 8. And I am as disappointed now after watching it for the second time as I was the first time I saw the season finale. It makes me sick to be honest..
But let's forget about season 8 for a bit and discuss 1-7.
In my opinion season 2-6 is where the show peaked or is as good as it can be. The dialogue is superb and some scenes is too good. The buildup and execution on certain scenes is spectacular. One for example is when King Joffrey summons his grandfather Tywin Lannister to speak to him. If you watch that scene alone you will know what I'm talking about. And that is just one of many great scenes this show had!
The visual effects is also one of the best I've ever seen and the team working behind that killed it! The show is visually stunning especially later on where the dragons appear. Very good cgi.
The soundtrack and the music is also what made this series so great! The composers who worked on this did a incredible job. On that stood out to me is in season 3 episode 9. And 10 when "lord of castamere " (the Lannister song) started playing. Absolutely beautiful.
How can I summarize this mess then..?? Well as I said seasons 2-6 is top tier as can be! Season 1 was a good first season and had its moments but can't really compare to the other ones (2-6) in my opinion. Season 7 was also a solid strong season but I started to see a little bit of a downfall (still great though!) And finally the disaster which was season 8. Everything came crashing down... The writing is absolutely dog water! Nothing makes sense whatsoever in the story telling and the choices the characters made. It's just amazing character development thrown in the bin for some of the characters. You can just tell the writers just wanted to be done with the series which is very disappointing considering all the hard work that went down creating this series. Not just from the actors but all the people who helped create this stunning series. And I know I'm not the only one who feels like this. It's just so very disappointing and frustrating for all the fans who has followed this series for a decade that it had to end like this.. I just hope House of the Dragons can do it justice and have a better ending than Game of Thrones had.
Would still recommend watching 1-7 if you will, great entertainment. Season 8 however.... Watch it at your own risk.. I guarantee you will be disappointed. Shame on you D&D
That is all.
The Menu (2022)
Enjoyable
I enjoyed this movie despite the bad reviews. It has good pacing and I was quite hooked by it and it kept me guessing for what was about to happen.
I was very shocked to see such good actors in this film but Ralph Carried in my opinion. I have always liked his acting and most of the movies he has made. Especially the weird and strange characters he is playing he does it very well.
The movie has some flaws and one of them is that I didn't really understand some of the characters. By that I mean that it would have been nice too have had some more backstory on some of them to make the viewer understand who they were as a person. And to have a better overall feel for the character as well.
But overall I've liked it and would recommend if you want to watch a good satire movie which had some great comedic moments.
Oblivion (2013)
O.K
I think oblivion is an solid movie but it has some flaws in my opinion.
First of let me say that I really like Tom cruise and I'm a big fan of his movies. Especially movies like edge of tomorrow, which I really enjoyed. This movie isn't as good as that but it is quite enjoyable either way.
The acting is solid. Especially Andrea ( the one who plays Victoria.) She brings tension and makes you feel a little bit on edge as you are watching.. Tom was also great but if you ask me not his strongest performance.
I would say on the other hand that the pacing of the movie wasn't the best. It felt slow sometimes. And the plot was nothing special.. quite easy to figure out ( idk maybe I have watches to many movies )
But overall I enjoyed it and If you are a science fiction fan and are looking for a solid decent movie with great cinematography I would definitely recommend watching.
Final verdict 6.5.
The Last of Us (2023)
Great opening!!
Very good first episode. I totally se Pedro as playing Joel and Bella as Ellie. They both killed it in my opinion! Anna was pretty believable to in her character and I think it was a great fit. The overall casting seems pretty good to be honest.
I know it's only the first episode but i am psyched! And I can't wait for what this show has to offer. I just hope they stick to the story.
I have played both of the last of us games and to my recollection it has pretty much the same beginning. Maybe some different things if I'm not mistaken. It's been a while since i have played the games...
You get to follow Joel and see how a mans life can change overnight and where you have to adapt and think fast if you are going to survive.
The Nightingale (2018)
Tough watch
This is my first review I have written. Ive watches thousand of movies and never written a review, but after watching this movie I felt I needed too...
First let me say the acting is great. Especially Aisling and Sam. Aisling is very believable and Sam is a great actor for playing the villain.
The whole movie is very dark and unsettling. The first 30 minutes is very brutal and harsh and it makes you feel angry and also in pain for what is happening to Clare. The pain that she has to go trough is brutal and it can make you feel sick watching. The fact that people can be so evil and ruthless makes you think of what kind of world we are living in..
She later goes on a revenge trip with billy. Where they find a friend ship in one another. There are a few comedy moments but they don't last long.
The movie is very brutal and dark like I said and not for the faint of heart. But on the other hand it's a solid movie with some great acting and what I would say is a semi satisfactory ending.
