Bonzo (2013)
Such Potential
The plot to this film has great potential but fails on many fronts. A depressed man, having lost his beloved dog seeks isolation living alone in a cabin in the woods. He farms (small plot classified better as a very weak garden), chops wood for his fireplace and seeks to build a pipe bomb. The actor playing title character is appealing and I if given the opportunity could showcase talent. Here's where the film falls way short. Way too much time is spent watching the main character walk from his cabin to the shed or the barn, chopping wood or pumping water. He stokes the fireplace fire in several scenes. That is the extent and essence of the movie. Clearly this man has issues but those aren't developed! He is visited a couple of times by his sister but there isnt much dialogue or character development. Also, this guy is living in a cabin in the woods with no electricity or running water for months. Yet he is always clean shaven and his hair hasn't grown even a tenth of an inch. It's these type of details that make a movie more believable. It is never explained why he's building a pipe bomb. Nor why he arms himself up and goes out to an approaching policeman where movie fades to black screen, we hear shots and the movie is over. I liked the actor and I think the plot had potential but comes off more as rapid attempt to get a movie in the can.
Light of My Life (2019)
Painful
OMG......I should've known from the beginning when Casey Affleck's character was telling the story of Noah Ark that I should have stopped watching immediately! His telling of that story was so monotonous that I just wanted it to end. Unfortunately, it seemed to be a metaphor for the rest of the movie. This movie did not draw me in and I honestly did not care for it.
Midsomer Murders: Till Death Do Us Part (2018)
Press Refresh Button Please!
When a show has run as long as Midsomer Murders you need to find ways to make it fresh. Much like the long running Doctor Who that has recast the Doctor several times, new faces give a show a much needed shot in the arm. Neil Dungeon has run his course portraying the lead detective. Time for him to retire and either promote Winter or bring in a younger new guy. Neil has done a decent job, but just replacing his partner is not enough.
The Aeronauts (2019)
Unrealistic
I found this movie to be silly at times. This man and woman flying at altitudes that should require clothing to keep warm at frigid altitudes, they never seem to eat or drink and they never addressed needs to go to the bathroom. I realize this is loosely based on a true story, but believability is extremely low. Somewhat entertaining but highly unrealistic.
Zbrodnia (2014)
Unfortunate Relationship Garbage
The show is decent. Has great twist and turns but the show is ruined by the relationship between the detective and the wife of another character. The detective acts like a schoolboy that's never had a girlfriend before. The wife only encourages the pathetic detective. The widowed detective loses respect from audience for actively pursuing the married. What is even worse, the only just met and are now deeply in love. Totally unnecessary to the main purpose of the series. The intrigue of the investigating of murders makes it worth watching if you look past the ill conceived relationship.
Pressa (2007)
Lame
The first season was so-so! The second was off the chart for worst plot EVER! The story line centers around the dysfunction of mom and daughter. Mom sacrifices family life for her job as a reporter. She's given up her husband, her baby, her father and her daughter all for job, which, ironically, she never covers a story. Instead season two follows the antics of her 14 year old daughter who is hanging out with drug dealers, gets pregnant by one of them, goes for an abortion which she decides against, then takes pills in a failed suicide attempt which then causes the termination of her pregnancy, is then put into psych ward where her thug boyfriend comes and helps her escape. She has plan to runoff to Venezuela with thug boyfriend after armed robbery. Police come, thwarts robbery, boyfriend is killed in standoff. Icing on the cake for this stupid storyline, nothing happens to the daughter who aided and abetted the drug dealers. Throughout the season mom keeps trying to rescue her low life daughter from every disastrous situation she got herself in....constantly stupidly saying "but it's Alda" as if she was some stellar contributor to society. My wife and I laughed hysterically throughout the entire last episode. Surely no serious show could intentionally write such a horrible storyline!
Cold Creepy Feeling (2010)
Fun For The Whole Group!
Before I get ripped for giving this a 9, let me say it is not for the quality or the intended scare factor. Rather, this is just the type of movie a group of friends would have fun shredding to pieces from the non existent story line, the horrible camera work and the acting. This movie, if you want to call it that, is a cinematic gift to group that enjoys finding the faults that make it so bad. So grab some beer and pizza, sit back and start ripping!
The Crown: Aberfan (2019)
Best Television Acting & Writing
I applaud the writers and directors of the Crown. This episode clearly highlights the brilliant talent of all those involved. Olivia Coleman embodies the queen as we know her today. The delay in her presence at the site of this disaster shows the disconnect the royal family often appear to have with the emotions of the people they represent. The cast of the first 2 seasons were a tough act to follow. I, for one, did not see how a new cast including the brilliant Olivia Coleman could rise to the occasion. Three episodes in they have raised the bar even higher. Clearly from the 10 Out of 10 ratings I believe most viewers agree!
Inside Man: Most Wanted (2019)
Barbie impersonates GI Joe
Army of rugged men under the influence of BaBrie doll. Could easily have found a more realistic female lead. Now for plot flaw. Said army of men infiltrate Federal Reserve in a variety of staff jobs and no one questions who the heck they are. And they even brought there own equipment. And as an FYI...you can pick up those face covers on Pinterest!
