Kis Uykusu (2014)
Good, but not a masterpiece
I really wanted to like this movie! I watched it yesterday and I keep thinking about it all day today, trying to figure out what I liked and what I didn't like about it. I have to say, this IS a good movie! However, I am not completely convinced as many other reviewers here, that it is a masterpiece. It is way too long. Half of the audience fell asleep. I think that in 2-2,5 hours the director would be able to convey the same message as in 3,5 hours. The dialogs were too long and sometimes difficult to follow. The characters were well developed and the actors were extraordinary. The photography was beautiful and the director managed to present the whole atmosphere of the approaching winter in the remote rural areas of Turkey. All in all, the movie was well structured, but for me it lacked something to be a masterpiece. Maybe a little more dynamics.
The Words (2012)
Loved it!
I genuinely enjoyed this movie! It made me think about so many different things which is very rare with movies nowadays. First of all, it was beautifully structured, all the layers coming perfectly together at the end. Second, all of the actors did a great job. Needless to say, Jeremy Irons is a genius. Third, the subject touched so many problems and characteristics we all have in or around us. And the end was just as it was supposed to be. Those who want to go and see a movie that does not make them think or leave them wonder, should just stick to Iron Man. All in all, this was a movie well worth seeing. I give it 8 out of 10.
Les petits mouchoirs (2010)
Nice idea not well executed
I had so many expectations for this movie knowing that the actors are first class, but it all disappeared somewhere by the middle. First of all, because it was way too long.
In 2,5 hours I couldn't find myself sympathizing with any of the characters simply because they weren't crafted well enough. I don't think that it was the actor's fault that the movie lost its credibility. I think it was just the weak script. The director could have made it shorter but much more appealing. It could have been done with stronger dialogues or monologues.
I hate it when a movie ends (especially after 2,5 hours) and I can't find any moral of the story. If the director wanted to tell us that they weren't real friends - he succeeded, but we figured that out at the beginning when they all went on vacation while their "friend" was dying in the hospital. I was hoping for something deeper.
I know some people loved the reality of it, but I just couldn't see it.
Oh, and it's such a pity that we didn't see more of Jean Dujardin.
Blindness (2008)
If you don't want to read the book watch the movie!
I saw the movie after I read the book without expecting too much. First of all, the book is very intense with emotions, images, thoughts, written with an extraordinary language by a Nobel winner. At times it is very difficult to read. I loved loved loved the book! Having said that, I wanted to see the movie out of curiosity. Meirelles is a wonderful director, and I admired the fact that he would bring such a difficult book to the screen. The casting is amazing. I wouldn't want anyone else in the leading role but Julianne Moore. Mark Ruffalo as her husband was also great. As well as all the other characters. One thing that also fascinated me was the depiction of the white blindness, and how it was in all the right places, not derailing much from the book. I suppose that as the book is not for everyone, the same goes for the movie. A lesson that should be learned is that you shouldn't always believe the ratings, sometimes it's better to explore.
Enter the Void (2009)
This movie deserves a 0!
This is the first review i'm writing here. I am not triggered by the movie, but by all these comments about how stunning it was. I couldn't disagree more with all these thrilled people! First, the story.. Nothing we haven't seen before. A young tormented man dies and watches over his beloved sister. And that really is everything I can say about the story. Then, the visual effects.. I wish someone had told me before that I was supposed to be under influence of drugs in order to really enjoy the movie. Being 100% sober all I got was a headache and those disgusting images stuck in my head! At last, I understand the need of some directors to shock, but here some parts were completely unnecessary. I mean come on! 15 minutes of pornography is not necessary! We got the point within the first 2 minutes! I hesitated of stopping it, but I kept hoping that the end would make the point for all the torture. I fell asleep a couple of times and then I was sorry I wasted 2,5 hours on this. All in all, too long, too uninteresting, too boring, too pretentious.. I'm trying to think of at least one positive thing to say about this movie but there really isn't any.
