Very engaging and nicely done movie

Madhavan is brilliant in this movie. The movie has a fantastic pace. It will keep you engaged throughout, and make you wonder what is going to happen next.

The way Madhavan has made his character evil with slight humor is fantastic. The movie is intense at times, and makes you think what are the options for the parents, whose daughter is completely under the control of a person who does not hesitate to hurt her or her family, or use her in hurting her family. The tension is kept throughout and you just want to know what the family will do next.

Do go and watch this in the theater if you can !

Dobaaraa (2022)

Excellent copy and fast paced movie !

We totally enjoyed this movie in the theater. This movie is copied from the Spanish movie "Mirage". Nevertheless, it is made very well, fast paced and with subtle humor. The movie never gets boring anytime, and does not have your regular bollywood songs etc.

Taapsee has acted really well and kept the movie moving. There is some humor amongst the thrill, which is nice. I highly recommend this movie, and if possible, see it in the theater. You won't get bored anytime.

And please ignore the ratings by the boycott gang. They are just outsiders / non-Indian people who want to see Bollywood die, just because it is the biggest movie industry in the world. They want to see the Indian economy affected by bringing Indian movie business down.

Bad Boys for Life (2020)

Not as good as the last one

Went in the expecting it to be like the last one. With great humor and action. Unfortunately all that was there but a little diluted. Nothing really memorable in this one. Nothing like the scene where Reggie comes first time to date Marcus's daughter and the duo terrify him at the door only. This installment has a lot of unnecessary drama and more talk than action. Looks like another sequel is in the plans. Don't miss the post credits scenes.

Barot House (2019)

Excellent thriller ...based on true events !

First of all, let me talk about the acting. Amazing performance by each and every character. The kids were amazing. Manjari Phadnis was excellent. Amit Sadh, as brilliant as always. There was no room for an average performance also. They were all simply excellent. I can't stop appreciating the kid enough. Malhar ( character name) . He was perfect. The story is something you can't even imagine would happen since you know it's based on true events. It's a continuous thrill ride. You just keep watching from, start to end. It's about the murders of kids and the investigation. I still can't find the original case that this story was based on. I searched and searched and searched .. Great movie, don't miss !

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Looks like bots are giving this a 10/10

First of all it's a very loooooooong movie. 3 hrs. I was waiting for this one for months now, so excited at what was going to come. But Alas.. What a mess. The first hour is a complete boring time of them showing what the world has come to. I mean quite boring with slight humor. Second hour, the movie starts picking up, with more content (confusing time travel) and some good humor. The last hour (like when you are actually asking where's the action, where are the effects, 3D etc), it's starts to show some hope. And some action starts. Gets you going.. For a bit.. And then it ends. The action is hardly there.. Whatever is there is forgettable. Nothing worth like the earlier ones. Overall the movie is not a little below average, with nothing memorable in it. I can't believe the business is done. I came home and had to watch Infinity War to get over this one. And believe me folks... Infinity War was way better than this. Way way better with its story and action. Don't waste your money on this melodrama.. Watch it on TV when it comes...

Pari (I) (2018)

Pari - could have skipped it

When I read the reviews, I got excited thinking a good horror movie has come about. I thought in the lines of Pizza ( the tamil one of course, not the gore-added remake in Hindi) . Since I heard it's a different kind of movie, I knew there's got to be something more this movie will offer. Well, the story was kind of different, but they could have done a better job at executing it. The first half is very slow and boring. While heading over for popcorn in the interval, I heard other folks also rambling about how they wasted their money on this movie , some people saying it was a "bhangar" movie. However, the second half picks up a bit .... yes , just a bit. It gets more interesting definitely, yet you are not really into the movie. Maybe the first half puts you off, so you land up ridiculing the second half at times. The acting was excellent by all. The concept was good, definitely not what you find in Hindi horror movies. But then it was predictable and not as enjoyable as I thought it would be. Overall I didn't like the movie and think I could have skipped it.

Bhaagamathie (I) (2018)

Anushka Shetty is fantastic, but the movie is average

I am a big fan of horror movies, and really like some classic ones like Pizza (Tamil) , Shutter (Thai) etc. So I definitely wanted to see this movie irrespective of the ratings. It's a horror movie and it's got Anushka Shetty, what more can I ask ? Well, I should have asked for a more convincing script and non-cliched scenes ! Nevertheless I think you can watch this movie. It's extremely cliched , with the same old same old. Her acting is fantastic, and towards the end, with all the twists etc, you still want a more convincing story. At times, it will also remind you of Manichitrathazhu ( or Bhool Bhoolaiya, if you must ) . Most of the movie will keep you interested, but if you are horror fan like me in general, you won't find the movie that scary. You will laugh at what you predict also.

Rukh (2017)

The movie tried very hard to be good , but it was just plain boring

I went in with a lot of hopes seeing that TOI gave it 3.5 rating and it has Manoj Bajpayee in it. I am big fan of him. The movie just tries to be like an art movie, but somehow it does not hold your attention. It seems to be just so slow and boring. I never got connected with the characters. Manoj Bajpayee's acting is excellent as always but he doesn't have much screen time. The way it ended turned out to be very simple and nothing exciting. I wish someone had reviewed the movie like this before I went. Unfortunately there were no reviews here for this movie. Throughout the movie, the pace was too slow and I felt very sleepy. I didn't enjoy it at all.

NH 10 (2015)

Hindi movie into a different genre ...not successful !

Well, this is a good try to venture into a new territory , which is covered by some of the Hollywood counterparts.

Anushka's performance was good. Darshan Kumaar was amazing. Unbelievable that he played the husband of Mary Kom. In NH10, his character is in complete contrast to the his earlier role. However, he has done a fantastic job. Reminds me of the time I saw Manoj Bajpai as Bhiku Mhatre, and then the contrast irritating salesman- ish role he played in Kaun.

Now to the movie. There is really no story as such. Most of the movie Anushka is running with the guys behind her in the dead of the night. We see light right at the end of the movie. That's about it. They tried to create some tense moments, some were successful, some were nothing great. I am not sure why this movie got high ratings. I guess it must be because of the performances of Anushka and Darshan.

Overall, if you are curious, just wait till you download ...uh hmm.. sorry, I mean till you rent the DVD.

Interstellar (2014)

Relativity slows down time in the movie till you get bored !

OK, I get it ! It's a Nolan movie so everyone hu-ha about it. Well actually no, I do see lots of negative comments about this movie in the message board. While I went in expecting a Nolan movie , I was sadly disappointed. I got used to his style of movies which hold my attention throughout, and can even make me watch the movie a few times.

This movie is OK with its sci fi story. It does however drag many many times and goes very slow. A lot of drama, and less science fiction. A lot of talking and less adrenaline pumping scenes. The family drama just doesn't ever stop. The movie is too long.

Maybe if the movie was condensed from 169 minutes to just 90, it would have been great !

Doctor Who: Deep Breath (2014) Season 8, Episode 1

Capaldi is good , but his debut is nothing compared to Matt Smith's

Remember Matt Smith when he came in ? "The Eleventh Hour" !

The one liners, the funny eccentric Matt Smith, lovely Amy Pond, and of course, the showdown in the end of that episode. That showdown was excellent with the Doctor calling the alien back. Lines like "The doctor is in" , "Basically... run !" were delivered so well. The holographic images of all the doctors, through which Matt Smith walks out in the end !!!

Well, absolutely none of that cleverness was there in this episode. It was quite a simple one. Looks like Moffat ran out of ideas for a story and for showcasing a Doctor.

A simple story about a dinosaur who combusts and the Doctor searches for the serial killer. Clara was as good as always. No difference there.

One neat thing was the way they set up this Doctor's personality really well. they make it quite clear that he is not like Matt Smith and not a pseudo boyfriend to Clara.

Nevertheless, if you are as big a fan as I , you need to see it !

Update: I saw the second episode "Into the Dalek" and still not impressed.

Queen (2013)

Excellent movie ... light movie ...funny movie ... in the likes of ZNMD !

Finally Kangana got her chance. They have made her not look glamorous at all, yet she was amazing. Her acting was top notch, and the story was simple but great. They should make more movies like this.

It is about 2.5 hours long but holds your attention throughout. Though the shooting is mainly abroad, the movie doesn't go all out trying to show awesome locations etc. They concentrate on making the movie look more like everyday. There are no major dialog-baji or masala. And the movie has no deep emotional scenes. Like I said ... ZNMD :-)

( Forgot to mention ... Lisa Haydon was hot ! )

Inkaar (2013)

Once in a while , they make good Hindi movies like this...Also Chitrangda Singh rocks !

This is a different kind of movie which boldly deals with a topic of sexual harassment in workplace. It is done well and keeps you involved. If you are a guy and are drifting away from the plot, don't worry. Chitrangda Singh will keep your eyes glued. She is excellent as always and looks excellent. Her dressing sense is great and she looks very classy.

Arjun Rampal's acting is where it's always been, and yet he was not as annoying as I find him otherwise. He is also given some good one-liners in the movie and has done a decent job. Overall the plot is interesting. Oh, did I mention that Chitrangda Singh totally rocks !

No idea why the IMDb rating is low. I and my friends found the movie very good. I recommend you watch it.

Flight (I) (2012)

As soon as "Flight" takes off, it crashes badly

The only reason why I'm garnered up 4 stars for this is because of the first 30 minutes leading up to the interesting flight scenes which are really gripping and due to Denzel's awesome performance. I have no doubt that Denzel totally rocks in acting, but I really prefer him in the more action roles like "Training Day" , "Safe House" , "Out of Time" etc. The movie takes off really well... until the "Flight" crashes ..literally. After that, it's total downhill. I never figured out the requirement of Kelly Reilly in this movie. The movie would be exactly the same without her. OK, I am wrong here... the movie would be BETTER without her. And of course, the way it ends is soooo disappointing. I feel they could have done much more with this movie. If you really want to see Denzel's acting and waste time, I suggest you wait for the DVD.

Brotherhood (I) (2010)

This is a very nicely done movie, which is very engaging, fast and interesting. It keeps you watching throughout the movie. While some things are predictable , many are not. I don't understand how come the rating is just around 6. It's much better than most movies you see nowadays. It's about a bunch of kids going through the induction process to get into a frat. The movie begins with one prank, which goes way off. It gets them into trouble ,and more trouble and more trouble. The best part about this movie is the way it ends. I had absolutely no idea that this is what was going to happen ! Do watch it , it's a good movie.

Super 8 (2011)

If you are a 6 yr old, you'll probably like the movie

I have no idea why we decided to go for this movie ! There is nothing more to know about the movie than what we already know. Train Crash + Alien ... anyone who reads the plot already knows that.

There are a few thing which happen in the movie which are totally unexplained till the end. After the movie is over, you come out and start wondering ,what did this scene happen for ? Why did so and so happen ?

Anyways , the worst part and the best part of the movie are together. It's the last 5 minutes of the movie which are crappy, while it's the best part coz you are very happy that the movie has finally ended. I am still giving this a 3/10 , because I really liked the first 15 minutes which end with the train crash. After that the movie really crashes !

Shutter Island (2010)

A must-watch movie , after a loooong time

Just saw this one yesterday.

It's been a long time since I enjoyed a movie in the theaters like this one. I was awaiting Avatar, but that was not as entertaining as I thought. I think the last time I really liked a movie in the theaters was "Paranormal Activity"

This movie is an intense psychological thriller, which keeps you involved right from the start to the end. The acting of the cast was very good. Some scenes were really eerie and nicely done. The background music was very good ..kinda like "The Shining". Its done nicely , like the music is there right at the start, when these guys are on the boat approaching the Shutter island.

There are some movies , where you are so unhappy with the way they end. This one has a perfect ending.

The movie is set in 1954, where an island is an institution with a fusion of law and psychiatric treatment. Violent and insane patients reside there, where there is not only a presence of doctors, but of police force as well. There are 3 wards. One for males, one for females, and Ward C for the extremely dangerous and violent patients. Two US marshals (DiCaprio and Ruffalo) are hired to investigate the disappearance of a patient from ward C. Slowly they uncover a conspiracy. I obviously can't tell you more about the movie without revealing too much.

This is a must-watch movie, not to be missed !

The Other Man (2008)

Absolutely nothing in this movie !

I think I have rarely seen worse movies than this one. The movie just doesn't add up. It keeps your interest for the first 30 minutes I think, then you start wondering what is happening. What I really really really can't understand is, how such a good cast decided to be in this slow dragging, boring , lousy end , kind of movie !

It's just a simple story of a cheating wife. Actually the story starts off with Liam Neeson finding out that his wife is cheating on him. He finds out who it is, befriends him, and the movie ends. I am not joking. There is absolutely nothing else in the movie. If there is , someone please tell me what I missed.

Anyways believe me, you don't want to see this one.

Paranormal Activity (2007)

You bet , its paranormal !!!

Awesome movie !!! Scary stuff !!! Fear , fear , fear !!! This is what I have been waiting for this entire year. For a movie, that really blows your mind. And the movie is done so well, and it gets exactly the feeling that it wants out of the audience.

The movie features a young couple who are regular people just like us. Staying in a regular house just like the ones we always see. Speaking , talking , fighting, all habits just like us. Overall , you can imagine yourself there.

Apparently the girl thinks that she hears some noises etc, and the guy decides to record everything on camera to find out what it is exactly. He does not believe it ( just like most of us ) , and his comments are quire funny ( just like our comments :-) ) Slowly , but surely, we start discovering what it's all about. And the entire movie is shown through their own video camera which is held sometimes by the guy, sometimes by the girl, else it's on the tripod.

This is a definite must-see movie for any horror fans. Even if you are not a fan, you should definitely check this out, because it's a classic.

When we were watching, the entire audience was totally into the movie, and jumping out of their seats at times. Yes , we were scared !!! Since it is shot with a hand-held camera, people who can't stand shaky movies might want to take it easy on this one. You can still see it, because when the camera is on tripod , it is fine. And those are the best moments.

This movie is ten times better than Blair Witch. Do not think about waiting for the DVD . Check it out in the theaters , because you don't want to be at home watching a movie about a couple at home with creepy things happening. You HAVE to see it in the theaters !!!

Death Note: L Change the World (2008)

So bad , can't believe this is a sequel to the 2 Death Notes

This is movie is extremely average with nothing much in it. It's trying to use the success of Death Note to try to sell itself.

I had already read and heard reviews for this movie being horrible. So I had very very very low expectations in this one. But the problem is when you see L , you really start expecting something smart, something intelligent. And you get highly disappointed :-( If they had made this movie without the Death Note characters , it would have be a bad movie. But using the same characters is even worse, as you tend to expect them to do their regular bit. Believe me, when you see L on the screen, you will start thinking that he is upto something, or he will come out with something smart and surprising. But no .. nothing like that at all.

That is the reason why I gave it a 4. Unlike the earlier Death Notes :

* there is hardly a plot

* no brilliant moment at all in the movie

* it goes a little sentimental at times

* lines of L are very often useless

* there is no Ryuk

* there is no Light Yagami

* emotional side of L is seen as he gets along with 2 children

In fact, I am going to stop talking about this movie at all. I'd like to mention at this point , that Death Note 1 and 2 were simply awesome !!!

Gamer (2009)

Average movie. Trailer shows more that it is !!!

First of all, I think the trailer was pretty awesome for this movie ! But listen to me. The movie is just about average. At times, it's more shaky than "Cloverfield". The concept is new. But I think they could have done much more to use this concept well. Till the point that this concept of "people playing online games using real people" is introduced , it's good. But then after that , the movie is so so. Gerard Butler is pretty good. Somehow the movie doesn't hold your attention at all. The end is very disappointing. By the end of this movie, you expect the movie to end with a lot of bang. Unfortunately, it just ends without a small pop also.

Overall, I would say the concept is intelligent, but the plot is not. You can wait for the DVD for this one.

Earth (2007)

Earth = "Planet Earth" for kids !!!

My title above says it all. Let me make it clearer. If you have seen the BBC's "Planet Earth" , which I am sure most of you have , then you are not gonna like this movie too much. And I own all the discs of "Planet Earth" I had seen the rating for this movie very high , and read good reviews about it. I was excited to check it out.

Alas, I went to the theater and the movie started , I saw it was a Disney movie with production companies listing BBC and Discovery. And when they started the first scenes about the polar bear, I recognized them from my DVDs at home of "Planet Earth".

The movie continued and went on and on and on , me and my friends kept on recognizing the scenes were all from "Planet Earth".

We were very very disappointed , as I think 90% of the footage is from "Planet Earth" . I am saying 90% , because some of the scenes I didn't recognize. I have a feeling that I simply didn't remember them.

So finally what this movie really is , is a compilation of different footages from the different discs of "Planet Earth" , with a narration aimed at kids. Yes, the narration is quite kiddish. Let me give you an example. When they show the polar cubs walking away from the mother cub , the narrator says "The polar cubs are not like human kids. They don't always listen to their mothers" ( I don't remember the exact words , but this is how it is ) So in a nutshell. This is condensed "Planet Earth" for kids !

Knowing (2009)

Knowing that this movie is bad, will save you some bucks...

I was very disappointed in this movie. I expected more action from this movie. There are 2 times only that the special effects are very good. The premise of the story was great, but it was carried out very badly, and the movie becomes a little slow and boring after a while. For some reason , I expected the movie to be a typical Nicholas Cage action movie like "National Treasure" - Fast and Interesting. This movie fails on both accounts. I liked the concept to start off with, but I feel it was not used wisely to develop the story. The story is supposed to be a man who knows what disasters are going to happen. Unfortunately, he actually intentionally manages to go to only one such disaster .. yes. only one !!! My advice to you is to avoid this one... you won't miss much ... knowing this, you will save a few bucks !

Om Shanti Om (2007)

Wow.. fantastic job with an age-old theme of re-birth

Excellent movie ...highly entertaining ...hilarious at times !!! SRK has again proved that he is definitely the KING of Bollywood. And he seems to have really worked out for this movie. You can make out in his version of Salman's "Oh oh Jaane jaana" . And he looks good as always. And Deepika has also performed well. She looks very nice as well ! Farah Khan has a really unique style of directing where she seems to entertain the audience throughout the movie , right from the starting credits to the end credits. It surprising to think that the story is based on an old theme like re-birth. They way the movie is made around that theme is really good. And of course, one of the best parts of the movie is when SRK , as a junior artiste , is performing as a South Indian. That was hilarious. Some actors are there for a brief moment as themselves, but they are excellent and funny. e.g Abhishek Bachan , Akshay Kumar. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. Its a great family movie, very funny, good timepass !!!

Michael Clayton (2007)

Mr Ocean .. wasted on a movie like this...

The only reason why this movie is getting a 3 from me, is because of the acting. The movie itself is pretty awful. The story is lousy , and extremely predictable. The people who found any - ANY - twists in this movie are completely mentally challenged. Go on you Michael Clayton-lovers , go and increase your brain power !!! Oh did I forget to mention that this movies seems to be going for many many hours...hours of you expecting something nice to pop up, or some action from George Clooney. It just disappoints you throughout. The movie in total has got one power scene (of an explosion in the beginning) , and 2 or 3 power dialogues by Mr Ocean !!! Save your money, skip the movie in the theatre. Save more money, skip the DVD also !!!
