Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
It's just not a very interesting story
Super boring. Super long. Super regretful I spent the time watching it. This movie tells a story that is told in the most unremarkable and boring way imaginable. And I'm not joking. Be warned.
That's basically it. Not even the cast can save you from it boring you to absolute death. It's just not a good movie, honestly. And I'm a Scorsese/Decaprio/Deniro simp. What a waste of talent all around. Good Lord.
The characters are about as cliché and obvious as it gets. The only saving grace of this movie is the production. You do feel like you're in that era, based on what you're looking at on screen.
Beyond that, it's just not a story that is worth investing 3:28 in. I'd rather watch SpongeBob for goodness sake. Look elsewhere, would be my suggestion.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
The monsters will not save this show
It's more typical bad television. As per usual. Using the same tired and poor formula that Hollywood writers and studios are intent on regurgitating over and over. You will not only find zero reason to care about even a single character, you'll actively decide you hate them and the story they are attempting to push.
Two episodes in and I'm done with this trash. Not even the monsters, of which there is very little, is enough to continue subjecting myself to this kind of "bad TV" . Hollywood is either going to learn how to introduce and utilize relatable, actual characters, saying and doing things that seem realistic, or they're not.
And if this is the kind of nonsense they think the general audience will find engaging then they'll continue to loose money on these projects. Because no matter how many times they make the same nonsense with a different coat of paint, it will never work.
Legacy of Monsters is another TV drama with actors that cannot do their jobs properly because the script will not allow them to. It's bad writing. It's just horrible to sit through and watch. Characters that nobody cares about watching because Godzilla fans don't go into a Godzilla show/film with the desire to see that playout on screen.
If you're looking for an engaging series about Godzilla and the Titans, this most certainly is not what you are looking for. I look forward to hearing about this show being canceled soon. There's no way this is going to go the distance imo.
WALL·E (2008)
IT'S PERECT. Please don't make a sequel. Please?
This film stands on its own. It's so good it doesn't require more. It would only water down the beauty of the first entry. I beg you, please - don't make a sequel.
This movie can last the ages with the likes of OG Disney animations that we still show our kids. This movie is a masterpiece.
Wall-E and Eve are precious characters. This cannot be replicated. Ever. It tells more than one story. The animation is absolutely breathtaking and the amount of care put into this film (story, production ect.) is not seen often.
Please leave it alone, for us and our children and their children all to cherish this amazing piece of work. A sequel will never feasure up and only be a stain on the original. I beg you to all to watch this. It's wonderful. Truly.
Thank you.
The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023)
Good casting, interesting characters but Dracula is meh
I enjoyed it. Given what it is, a story about "Dracula" onboard a ship there's only so much you can do with the plot, as it's obviously going to end one way. The character's were interesting and cast well. Which for me saved the film. As Dracula was fairly bland imo being only in "creature" form. Could have easily been any random monster and the movie be renamed and you'd never connect it with Dracula.
Again, it's the crew and the realization they have of the threat they are stuck at sea with. Made for a good watch. It's not groundbreaking or anything but I was never once bored with it. Dracula as a creature just isn't very interesting. The character should be portrayed in mostly human form imo, otherwise he's just another random monster.
A solid 7/10.
Gen V (2023)
This is peak "Disconnected from reality Hollywood"
I can't even fathom how this was green lit for the general audience to consume. It's just so bad. Like, really, really bad. My goodness...
If this is what you're serving up for today's young people to watch, I weap for the future. It's so blatenly bad that it makes you stop what you're doing, right in the middle of watching it and be like - what? Why? How can you create this and in good faith think this is worth releasing to the public?
One more example of why I'm currently enjoying watching Hollywood burn it's own house down. Do please keep it up, guys. It's the real entertainment. So thanks for that. REAP IT.
Inside (2023)
It's a slow burn. Take it for what it actually is.
This film is pretty straight forward. You already understand the plot. You already should know what to expect. This isn't a crime caper. This isn't a heist film. This isn't an escape story. It's about being prisoner with very little options at your disposal. Trying to survive and not loose your sanity.
If you think you won't find this kind of story interesting enough to sit through for 1hr and 45mins than don't attempt to watch it, because you'll clearly find it boring. If you do think you would like to, I can assure you, this film with keep you entertained because it tells this story very well.
Defoe does a great job in this, as expected. It's a simple plot but it leaves you wondering just what else he'll think of next, only to be disappointed. This kind of movie is certainly not for everyone. There's no action. Very little dialog worth noting. But it executes the the plot perfectly imo.
I enjoyed it. I wasn't amazed because there's nothing amazing to this, but I was thoroughly entertained through out the film based on Defoe's performance and trying to imagine what it must feel like to be in his position. What one must think about or do. It's intriguing to be honest.
A nice change of pace for a change. Solid movie and a slow burn.
7/10.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
It's just... ok. I guess. Whatever.
I didn't care about it to begin with. Wasn't a fan of the first film. I could go on and on about what I don't like about this movie. Or I can just say the GGI is good. Which it is. Even if the design for these characters is completely .. meh.
Literally everything looks good EXCEPT the smurfs. I mean they LOOK good but who honestly cares about these things?
They are not interesting, they don't tell a story that's not already been told already. They don't have a visual presence that utilizes the CGI in a way that engages the audience. The film is lame. The smurfes story is unremarkable and the threat is seriously underwhelming imo.
I don't wanna, but I gotta. Movie is bleh. I grudgingly give this a 6/10 and that's 2 stars it honestly doesn't deserve. You were supposed to write an epic. This is not an epic. You were supposed to show amazing creativeness, you gave us regurgitated characters telling a non-interesting story.
Who cares if it looks good. I have video games installed on this machine that will wipe the floor with this film, visually. It's just... OK I guess or whatever. Like, it's not OK to be so BLEH. WHY ARE YOU ALL SO BLEH?
65 (2023)
Now you might eventually have Dinosaurs, in your Dinosaur movie, right?
The plot is flimsy. I can ignore that. There's only two characters in the entire film that can barely communicate with each other because of language barriers. I can grudgingly get over that. The CGI ranges from just OK to average. Again, I could look past it.
What I find unforgivable is the distinct lack of Dinosaurs in a film about Dinosaurs. A few scenes spread across the movie ain't going to cut it. This film should have been absolutely filled with the beasts at every turn. This was a complete waste of time and I've no interest to ever watch it again.
5/10 and I'm being extremely generous. I do not recommend this.
Halo (2022)
Wow! This show is brilliant. Ignore the haters. It's awesome.
You'd have to be a moron not to see how amazing this show is. Great action, interesting science fiction, impressive production and some pretty awesome CGI. Story is fine for what this show is about - Master Chief and the war against the Covenant.
That's not a terribly difficult or complex plot to produce successfully, that's why this works so well.
These complainers need to go play their video games and leave this show alone. It's not for them, clearly. It's for the rest of us. And I'll gladly watch this for as long it's being made. Really enjoying it. So happy and very thankful to see Halo get a TV series of this quality.
PLEASE don't let this show die.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
I should have listened to the the reviewers that actually watched the entire season
They were right. It's true, the show constantly goes around in circles but leads you no closer to even a guess as to where it might be intending to take you. Androids, religion, parental pains.
These are not exactly very good topics to throw together for an interesting and sustainable TV series. Certainly not at this pace, anyway. Which to say, extremely slow - even to a fault.
By the end of season one I was completely over it. I no longer care. Nothing particularly interesting has happened and I am no longer invested in the story. Complete waste of time.
The Last Duel (2021)
Talk about a miscast oh boy...
The film has no soul. And it doesn't feel authentic or moving in the slightest. This review isn't about the dull, long and utterly disappointing film itself but rather it's cast that caused it's ultimate failure.
Mathew Damon cannot and will not and can not pull off the tough, seasoned warrior type roles. Ever. This ruined 75% of the film for me personally because he's the main character and it's so distracting to see someone with his acting talent not take to a role naturally. But he simply isn't right for it. Quite the opposite, in fact.
We can all agree that Ben Affleck was miscast. That isn't even up for debate. Literally any low budget actor could have covered that role and nothing would have changed besides the fact that a heavy hitter actor looks absolutely laughable playing it.
This is coming from a fan of both actors, mind you. So this review hurts.
Adam Driver, coincidentally, was cast perfectly for this film. He was the one character I actually enjoyed and was happy to see on screen each time he appeared. I look forward to more of his work, if this is anything to go by, to be honest.
But that leaves the film itself. The story. Ehhh. Hard to say. Had it a cast that could deliver the film correctly, I may feel differently about it. As it stands, I simply didn't care about the story it was attempting to tell because the story tellers they chose weren't meant to tell it.
I was expecting a great movie here but within 20 mins I realized it was not something I'd be remembering or caring about. This film and story deserved better. The directing was acceptable. The story was there but the casting ruined all of it. And it's far too long of a film to suffer that kind of awfulness.
5/10 and I do not recommend it.
V/H/S/94 (2021)
I love how all the reviews are either 2's or 9's
This is a poor film. You knew it going in, so lets not pretend this is even worth reviewing. Don't let this film be a stain on the horror genre. It's just another movie that was vomited out for reasons we will never know. It exists. I have no idea why.
3/10.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Absolutely brilliant!
Don't sleep on this show. If the very first episode doesn't draw you in and scratch that itch for amazing fantasy with a unique story and well written characters, then I don't know what would.
The sheer amount originality this series has just oozes out with every single scene. I desperately hope this show continues but I honestly doubt it will. It's very rare for a series with this much potential to go far, for reasons I will never understand.
Sea Fever (2019)
Don't listen to the 8/9 star reviews. It's not that good.
Just because this film isn't terrible, certainly doesn't mean it's extraordinary like these people are claiming. While it will at least manage to keep you somewhat interested, it's basically for nothing in the end.
The plot has been used countless times before. The suspense is weakened by being predictable and the perceived 'threat' is extremely unremarkable and unsatisfying.
You're left waiting for a big payoff scene that never comes and realize you just wasted 90 mins of your life on this film. Don't expect to be pleasantly surprised by watching this. You won't be.
It's just a very, very predictable movie you've seen before but with far less interesting problem to be dealt with and the ending is just bleh.
5/10 is being generous.
Angels & Demons (2009)
Could ANYONE give a review NOT compared to the book?
I was not impressed. The reviews were not impressive either. I've never read nor intend to read the book. But it's quite common knowledge that the worst book is usually better than the best movie.
Seriously, these reviews are not helpful at all.
Vikings (2013)
Ragnar is extremely sorely missed but there's still a show here....
He's gone. It hurt all of us viewers deeply. It took me quite a while to pick back up the series after his demise, which can never be fixed. I litterally hated the show and still hold strong grudges against the writers for it.
But...
A year or so later I convinced myself to keep goin and pick it back up. Still very bitter about the loss of an absolutely amazing character that will forever go down as "a great one" in my book.
Is the show the same? No. Absolutely not. Ragnar was the show. There simply isn't any replacing him. Ever. That's just the cold, hard truth. Ragnar had something. You invested in him, as a character. He meant something to all of us.
His sons, unfortunately and understandably - are not him. The actors either give too little or (in Ivar's case) over do it to the point of being cringy and ridiculous. But there's certainly still entertainment to be had.
There's still conflict, bad blood and plenty of battle. But the show certainly lost it's soul by killing off Ragnar. It's simply just another half-decent series you watch wgen there's nothing left to do in the day.
It will never, ever be the show it was again. We miss you Ragnar.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
The finale we deserved. Finally.
I'll keep it short.
This is everything I wanted the TV series to end with.
Absolutely brilliant. And worth the wait. Timing is everything.
The Predator (2018)
How did this even get a theatrical release? I seriously want to know!
This is on par with low grade B-rated films you will see on the SyFy channel. It's basically a parody of the franchise. I cannot even begin to comprehend or explain what I just watched. It's that bad. Just absolutely awful, lol. Wow. Just.. wow.
If a film like this passes for a "Hollywood blockbuster" these days I have to seriously question the intelligence level and motives behind the film studio's.
I weap for the future of Cinema after this. I will never acknowledge the existence of this film within the franchise and I will never support or be interested in any other films from Shane Black.
I can't believe it was THIS bad. Do not pay to see this. Ever. Not a theater ticket, not a BluRay purchase, not a Digital Download. Do not support this movie in anyway. Vote with your wallet. Avoid this film like the plague, would be my suggestion.
You've been warned. 1/10 stars. Absolutely not recommended.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Marvel movies are now comedies...
So it seems that most people like cheap comedy in their super hero films thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy. Hollywood has taken notice. And now all future Marvel movies will be comedies. Oh Joy...
This movie killed this character and anticipation for future Marvel super hero movies for me. If I wanted to watch a comedy, I'd watch one. Marvel characters shouldn't be this obnoxious on screen.
