300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
Overrated
I thought the days of bad sequels are over...apparently they're not. I am not a big fan of the first 300, but I have to say that I enjoyed the stunning visuals Snyder brought to screen and the good quality acting in the first movie.
I have to say that there was almost nothing good about 300: Rise of an Empire, directed by Noam Murro the viewer is left uncomfortable with the ugly colour balance and soft focus, the colour balance was just terrible, most of the movie was dark (almost black and white) and the sky was glowing throughout the film, which was very distracting and very uncomfortable, obviously blood was a big factor in the film, but with this colour balance it just seemed unnecessary. The soft focus was another problem, I found it very hard to sit through one and a half hours of soft focus, it really made me feel uncomfortable.
I can't say that the fight scenes were bad, but they just did not live up to my expectations, unlike it's predecessor the slow motion was used at the wrong times and the fight scenes just seemed messy, just like the camera movements that made me feel like I was watching a family movie.
The movie didn't really have a plot, seriously, it felt like I was watching a long wrestling match, the writers did not make it clear on what's happening, I was wondering is this a sequel? prequel? Is it a spin off? Apparently it was all of them , yes, it was a sequel prequel spin off of 300, where although we get great back stories they are completely ignored in the film (Xerxes's back story was interesting, but what was the point?) Other than that there was nothing good about the plot, it was filled with cliché's like the very predictable father dying cliché.
Other than Eva Green's acting, which saved the film, every other acting was terrible, Sullivan Stapleton is no Gerard Butler, he was just unconvincing as a leader, and I wish we saw more of Xerxes, he is a great character.
Overall, 300: Rise of An Empire is bad, it does not live up to it's predecessor, and it's overrated, it just seemed like a cheap parody of 300.
A History of Violence (2005)
Outstanding
Adapted from a graphic novel of the same name, a history of violence is a great film which explores the life of Tom Stall and his family after his past comes back to haunt him.
David Cronenberg's directing really changes the tone of the film as he used awkward camera angles throughout which really makes the film stand out. He also makes the viewer believe that Tom Stall is who he says he is when confronted by Carl Fogarty.
I loved the writing in this film it really shows us how everyone in the family is affected by what has happened and the reactions from the town and the family were very realistic.
The acting in a history of violence was great, especially Viggo Mortensen as Tom Stall he really makes the viewer engaged with the film and creates a conspiracy about whether or not Tom Stall is who he says he is.
Overall a history of violence is a great film which really stands out, honestly I feel that it's underrated and I believe it is worth more than a 7.5.
The Lego Movie (2014)
The best of lego!
We all love legos, who doesn't?! In the lego movie, we see the best of legos, we see lego as we've never seen it before...it's the closest thing to being a lego.
Personally I hate animation but I gave this movie a chance as it has all my favourite characters (batman, superman, Gandalf and even Dumbledore) at first the movie seemed boring and full of clichés and it felt awkward watching 1.5 hours of stop motion, but as the movie progresses it seems to grow to the viewer, it got my full concentration after the first 20 minutes, and the movie became great.
The directing in the lego movie was amazing I loved it, it made the movie seem like a big budget epic, and really helped me in understating the story.
The lego movie's story was very average and very generic at first, all that "believe in your self" cliché but as the movie progresses the story really stands out, even though the message is very common amongst animation movies, the lego movie seems to pull it off, adding excellent elements and a lot of humour...I mean A LOOOT!
The voice actors are of coarse amazing, Chris Prat was perfect as Emit, and Elizabeth Banks was great at WyldStyle, and Will Ferrel was brilliant as always, one thing I did not like was Will Arnett's batman voice, it just wasn't batman.
Overall The Lego Movie is a great film, it was OK at first but it gets much better towards the end.
The Truman Show (1998)
One of the greatest films of all time!
Directed by Peter Weir, The Truman Show is truly an excellent film that explores new ways to engage the viewer, in it's own way it truly catches one's attention as it is one of those rare films that are simple yet very deep. It focuses on Truman Burbank, a man whose life is nothing but a routine. Truman then realizes that everything in his life has been the same, and the story begins to unravel from there...
Peter Weir is a great director, he was able to fool the viewer in making us believe that Truman is living in a normal world and not a TV show. He was very successful in making the story evolve around Truman and make us feel the tension between the characters his camera angles were great as he sometimes uses the "hidden" cameras that were used in the show, I felt that was very creative.
The Truman Show is written by Andrew Niccol who also wrote and directed the very successful Gattaca. He does a great job writing the film as he made the viewer know only what Truman knows and did not have any dramatic irony which I really loved, this helped the story to focus on Truman and develop around him, which made the film much more entertaining. I have to admit, when I watched the first 30 minutes of the film I was lost, I didn't understand anything, but once Truman finds out that his life is fake the viewer finds out with him and suddenly I understood everything. The character development is one of the best thing in The Truman Show, as Truman develops into something totally different than what he was in the beginning of this excellent film.
The acting is of coarse amazing, as Jim Carrey does his best ever acting in this film, seeing him happy, sad, angry and dramatic Carrey truly proved himself to be an excellent actor.
Overall the Truman Show is an excellent and unique film, it is a must see!!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Epic
The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug came to theaters a year after it's predecessor, but after the long wait, it truly delivers.
Directed by the legend, Peter Jackson, The Desolation of Smaug is much better than the previous one, and much more visually stunning. Jackson's directing is better than ever, we see epic fight scenes, amazing camera angles and I loved the detail in his directing.
The writing is amazing, I have read the book and when they announced that the hobbit will be a trilogy, I was worried, but they got it right, although a lot of things were added and some things were changed all was for the better and every element in the writing seemed to make the movie much more epic!
I must say that I wasn't very happy with the soundtrack in this movie, unlike it's predecessor and TLOTR trilogy it does not offer the epic music that I would expect from a Peter Jackson film. Another thing that I was not very happy about was Legolas's make up it just seemed too much, almost like he was animated.
The acting in the hobbit 2 is great I loved Lee Pace as Thranduil, for some reason i compared him with Loki, and he was a lot better! The visual effects were amazing, I loved everything about them.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is no the return of the king, but it is still a great film and I can't wait till "there and back again".
Spider-Man (2002)
Great!
Raimi's spiderman was released into theatres back in 2002, the film is great it had everything that a spiderman fan wants in a film adaption of the character's origin story.
Sam Raimi did a good job at directing the film, his directing made me feel like I am spiderman (when spiderman swings the camera often moves) therefore giving the viewer the closest experience he can get from web swinging around new york. Raimi's take on spiderman wasn't dark it wasn't too comedic either, the film seemed to have the perfect blend of action, drama and comedy.
Spiderman had a lot of humorous scenes, which were very interesting especially like when peter says "shazam" while trying to use the web or when he catches the food with MJ's tray, the fight scenes were excellent, I mean it's spiderman vs the green goblin...who wouldn't want to see that, but, the romance between Peter Parker and Mary Jane was way too extreme, I refuse to believe that MJ was Peter's inspiration to become spiderman.
In terms of writing the film had a good screenplay, it covered all the traditional elements of a superhero origin story, and added a few things, like the romance between MJ and Peter (which I did not like at all, it ruined the film for me)
The acting in spiderman was not bad, Kristen Dunst's performance wasn't as good as expected, it felt like the sense of mystery was missing from MJ's character. Some people complained about how Tobey Maguire didn't look like peter parker, in my opinion he was a great Spiderman, he live up to the role, he was able to portray the high school nerd side of peter parker and the spiderman side, his movements were "spider-like" as well, and his reflexes were great while he was spiderman, unlike Andrew Garfield's take. James Franco was as always...brilliant, and surprisingly William Dafoe made an excellent Green Goblin he had one of the best portrayals in comic book movie villain history!
The costumes were great in spiderman, the spiderman suit looked very fresh and modern, when Green Goblin's suit looked bad ass, it was excellent!
The Cinematography in spiderman was really good especially when spiderman is swinging around new york. The effects were good too.
Overall I give the film a 7/10 it was a well written, well directed film, but the romance between MJ and Peter was way too extreme and ruined the film for me.
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
What did I just watch?
Personally I am more of a DC fan than Marvel, but it seems like everyone has been pressuring me to watch the second installment of the Thor movies, and...it was disappointing.
Thor 2 is directed by "game of thrones" director Alan Taylor who proved that he has a future in Hollywood, Alan Taylor is a great director, Thor 2 looked beautiful and the fight scenes were great. Sadly Alan Taylor's great directing could not overcome Thor 2's disappointing story, in my opinion it is too early to make a Thor film that takes place in Asgard, but it made sense because it seems that the Thor franchise can not survive without Loki.
The film felt very messy as we learn about Malakith, a villain who barely appears in the film, the viewers just have no connections what so ever with the MAIN VILLAIN of the movie. Instead the writers focused on Loki who was amazing in this film, but the countless "is this guy Loki?" confusion was way too much, the viewer was unable to relate, first it was Loki against Thor (in the cell), then it was Loki with Thor (while going to the secret passage) then it was Loki against Thor, but we find out it was a trick...then Loki "dies" BUT we later find out he betrayed Thor...that was Way too much "Lokiception". In the film we see a slight tension between Sif and Jane Foster which I found to be completely unnecessary because except for the awkward looks they give each other, nothing really happens between them. The humor in Thor 2 is outstanding, but it gets repetitive at times. It felt like some points in this film were just not necessary at all! I understand that the writers wanted to make a point but the scenes were very briefly explained (the date in the beginning of the film).
Although Chris Hemsworth did a good job as Thor, but it's starting to get old, I don't get the feeling i get when watching Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man or Hugh Jackman as the wolverine. But Tom Hiddleston is brilliant as ever.
Overall, Thor: The dark world is an overrated film, where we see messy writing, mediocre acting (except for Tom Hiddleston) and unnecessary tension between the characters. Although Thor 2 had some flaws it is still worth watching Alan Taylor's outstanding directing in the film.
Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013)
Loved every minute
After Reading the comic, I was not sure on how they will make it more focused on the Justice League rather than a film focused on the flash, I mean the film was of coarse from the flash's point of view.WB animation has proved me wrong, instead they were able to make flashpoint a justice league movie and I loved every minute of it!
I have to confess I am not a big fan of animation but I am a big fan of DC, the animation looked beautiful (especially in HD) it looked very high in quality and extremely detailed! I have to say that Jay Olivia did a great job directing.
I loved the screenplay, though they had to change some small details from the book James Krieg was able to pull it off as writer, he was able to display the emotions that Barry (Flash) has towards his mother, and Bruce (batman) towards his father.
The voice acting in this film was amazing, especially Michael B Jordan as Cyborg, and as usual listening to Kevin Conroy as batman is music to my ears.
the character designs were good, I felt that Cyborgs suit could have looked better though.
So The Flashpoint Paradox is a good film and lived up to the comic, as always WB animation did a great job with this film, whether you are a DC or Marvel fan, this is a must watch!
Watchmen (2009)
Only for Watchmen fans
Watchmen was a good film, however many people were unhappy about the film, I don't really understand why...the movie is exactly the same as the graphic novel.
Watchmen is directed by Zack Snyder who is the master of visually stunning movies...need I say more, watchmen was visually stunning the movie looked beautiful. Snyder used his amazing visual talents for good, the fight scenes in this movie were amazing as we witnessed great slow motion with violent punches, I feel like Snyder used the opportunity that this movie was R rated. One thing I can say about Snyder's directing in this film was that I felt the setting was too dark, I could have found the film more enjoyable if the camera was slightly brighter (especially after considering that the extended version is 4 hours long!) The opening credits were the best! I loved how Snyder summarized the minute men's story in the credits.
I didn't feel like there was anything special with Watchmen's screenplay, the movie was acted out exactly as it was in the graphic novel, there was no difference what so ever, except for the part in the opening credits where we see the comedian killing Kennedy, which in my opinion was not necessary at all! There was also a character that was removed from the movie, in the Graphic Novel we meet Captain Metropolis, who set up the watchmen meetings, but was replaced with Ozymandias, whom we see set up the meetings.
The casting in watchmen was OK... some performances were brilliant (Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach) but some were very disappointing like Malin Akermen as Silk Spectre II, she looked exactly like Silk Spectre II in the graphic novel but her performance was very disappointing. I was very impressed with Billy Crudups's take on Doctor Manhattan, he seemed very cold blooded just as I pictured him to be in the novel.
Snyder's selection of songs in watchmen were outstanding they seemed to be very appropriate to the context of the film, for example in the funeral as we listen to "the sound of silence" play...
I think that if a casual movie goer watches this film, he/she might not enjoy it as much as a person who read the novel, because casual movie goers will feel board when the people who read the novel will feel very fascinated with Snyder's visuals, and the fact that the film is exactly like the graphic novel!
Batman Returns (1992)
Brilliant
This Movie is definitely Tim Burton's best movie in the 90's, it gives the viewer the batman vibe that was untouched for years, in this film we see a different batman, a batman that has returned but this time he is more bat than man.
I enjoyed Tim Burton's "spooky" take on batman, his directing seemed to be very dark the camera angles he chose however seemed to give the viewer a slight uncomfortable experience, which is not necessarily a bad thing since it makes the viewer get more engaged with the film.
As a viewer I really enjoyed the story and how it was structured, as we begin with a short back-story about the penguin, and then we see how Bruce Wayne has been doing after he defeated the joker (in the last film) what made the story really appealing was the creepy yet realistic vibe that I personally felt it gave out.
The screenplay is funny yet creepy, as we see a different version of the penguin, in which he lived in the sewer which I felt really matched the theme of this film, the things the characters said and did really made since I felt that Burton took the names of these characters in a very literal manner, for example cat woman was so much like a cat that she actually kept licking her hands and penguin was so much like a real penguin that he ate raw fish, I think this was what made the film really interesting.
Though the casting in this film got negative reviews, I really enjoyed it and felt that it made sense, Dany DeVito who was at the hight of his carrier plays the penguin which was the best interpretation of the penguin to date in my opinion, he made the penguin sound, he ate raw fish, he walked like a penguin, he had penguin hands, he had a penguin like body it was brilliant! I also enjoyed Michelle Pfeiffer's take on cat woman, personally I liked the 60's cat woman more but she was still really good, and creepy as well. Michael Keaton as batman, which we have seen before, was great I think that he is definitely one of the best batmen to date, he was not too dark, he moved like a bat and he fought like a bat, I also enjoyed his take on Bruce Wayne.
The props involved with this film were great I loved the bat suit and the bat-mobile in this film is definitely my favorite.
Overall, I strongly recommend watching this film as it is a brilliant, fun and creepy batman film it is definitely one of Burton's best movies to date.
Dredd (2012)
Genius
Dredd is an amazing film, it has a nice fresh story, some people complained about how the story was too simple, but that's the beauty of it! I'm a huge Dredd fan, I read the comics and this film is loyal to the comics and does justice to the character. I loved the story, it was simple, fun and unpredictable! Not to mention how fresh it was, it is definitely not like any super hero film out there.
The performances in this movie were AMAZING Karl Urban plays a badass Dredd and Lena Headay is perfect as Mama. Dredd was not an origin story, and you can say that they went too fast when they introduced the sidekick on the first movie, but we didn't mind seeing Anderson in this movie actually kept it fresh.
Pete Travis does a great job directing the movie, the fight scenes were great, and the idea of introducing the drug "slomo" allowed Travis to let the viewers experience amazing slow motion and it have the story a nice touch.
Dredd was a total badass, he talked like one, walked like one and definitely fought like one! The costume was well designed, they kept it simple and badass.
Overall Dredd was an AMAAAAZING film and definitely the greatest R rated comic book adaption out there I give Dredd an 8/10
American Beauty (1999)
Amazing
American Beauty is one of the best movies ever made, it reflects the dark suburban life to us. What I loved most in this film is that it is down to earth, easy to relate to and anyone can relate to this film; whether he's a teenager, a business man, a general, a sci-fi geek, a suburban father or a farmer, since it simply reflects human emotions towards the viewer and in the end we are all human.
The plot of this film is AMAZING as we follow the life changing moment of the main character and witness his progress in being "hot" but even though we can see one element of his life improving, the writer also allows you to understand that other elements of his life are shattering. Another part of the story was uncovering the past of Ricky Fits when he and his family remain a mystery through the first hour of the film, the, slowly, we start to understand his past. The metaphors in this film were very smart and hard to understand.
The performances gave me a shell shock, they were extremely amazing, Kevin Spacey was at his best in this movie, but one thing I did not like was the casting for Angela, Mena Suvari wasn't good enough for the role. Mendes did a brilliant job directing this film he made me so focused with this film that I thought I was in the suburbs. Overall, this is for sure one of the greatest films ever made.
X: First Class (2011)
The best X-men film out there!
X-men first class is definitely the best Marvel film ever made! In first class we explore the origins of the x-men, and we witness the beginning of the relationship of Professor X and Magneto.
X men first-class had a great story, in which they borrowed real events and added mutants! IT was awesome, first class also makes us love the characters since we see how they develop and how they choose their actions, we also witness how Charles Xavier wants them to fit in. First class was beautifully directed, Matthew Vaughn did a brilliant job, we really got the 60's feel, the props, the camera angles, the planes the weapons the setting EVERYTHING gives the viewer the 60's feel. The casting was OK,i mean James McCavoy, Michael Fassbender and Kevin Bacon were all great but I didn't like January Jones as Emma Frost. The screenplay was amazing it was filled with great quotes! One thing I was disappointed about in First Class was the character development of Magneto...it seemed like he turned evil overnight.
Another thing was the choice of the X men to be in the film, I would have loved to see cyclops and storm since they were Xavier's first students, but Marc Waid made it work and at least we got to see Havock (cyclops's brother)
OverallFirst class was a great film and definitely the best Marvel film out there i give it a 7.8/10
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Started off good, then it all fell apart
The Amazing spiderman started off good, it had a great cast, and seeing that there is a mystery behind peters parents was a nice touch.
-One thing I was not happy about was when peter went into the radioactive spiders chamber, I mean how on earth did he know the password just from watching a guy do it 5 meters away?!
-Unlike Sam raimi's spiderman, spiderman doesn't seem to have spider like movements, he just climbs walls like a human, when in Raimi's spiderman he actually moved like a spider when he climbed the walls.
-I was unhappy with the CG of the villain it looked really unrealistic.
-Another thing I was not happy about was when spiderman called his girlfriend to help him, this was the worst thing in the movie, because superheroes shouldn't put ANYONE is danger!
-The amazing spiderman was well directed, especially when spiderman swings.
-Do you expect me to believe that a high school student like peter parker can come up with something like his web swinging device?
-Spiderman had some humor which was good since it made the movie enjoyable
Overall, the movie was an OK film, but towards the end it was a missed opportunity.
Superman Returns (2006)
The domino effect, the movie just kept getting worse
Since superman returns came out after Batman Begins, people were expecting a huge superman film to compete with the newly rebooted batman film, but...this movie doesn't have a chance when compared to batman begins or even batman forever.
Superman returns was very loyal to the Donner films it had the same style of opening credits, they used the "swell" joke even the suit looked almost the same, BUT you just don't have the same feeling you get when you watch the Donner film, in this film, I felt bored, tired and I hated superman, while in the Donner film the viewer will get engaged in the universe and love the character since the Donner film was full of excitement.
Superman returns started off well, we see the plane crash and superman saves them, but after that everything falls apart and there is barely any action in this film.
Before I watched the film I thought the casting was brilliant I mean Kevin Spacey as Luthor! Even though Spacey did a good job, this was the worst representation of Lex Luthor in movie history, I mean how did he know how to use the crystals? Why does he want all that land?(just because his father told him a dumb quote about land) Luthor is an evil genius they should treat him like one!!!
I have got to say that Kate Bosworth is the worst Lois lane ever, how can they do this? how can they miscast Lois lane? Brandon Routh was OK as superman you can sense his passion throughout the film.
The main problem with superman returns was the story it was dry, nothing "new" really happens in this film.
When superman started stalking Lois Lane and falling in love with her even though she was married was the worst thing in the film, and that was where I first started hating superman, OH but wait (this should be exciting) Superman has a son, after I saw that I thought to my self "that's it this is the worst representation of superman in movie history"
Overall, I can't say that this was a good film but I can say that it had some good special effects and I can say that Singer did a good job at directing the film but not at the story.
Monsters University (2013)
Good, but not pixar material
Monsters university was a good film, just not as good as expected, after seeing how pixar has made it's other movies (monsters inc, toy story 1,2 and 3, up) you would expect to see something much better than what monsters university is. Monsters university was entertaining, just not as entertaining as expected, you can feel that this movie was made purely for kids 12 and under, unlike pixar's previous films which adults will also enjoy. Monsters university carried two great messages "I can" and the classic "we must work as a team message" they delivered these messages successfully. Boo really made a difference I noticed something missing in monsters university and that was definitely Boo, we couldn't see any of her "cute humor" :( As I said earlier this movie was targeted for kids 12 and under so... it's jokes were funny but not as funny as the jokes in Monsters inc, I mean I just chuckled once or twice in this film. However comparing it to pixar's work from the last two years this was the best (out of brave and cars 2) The film had a great story, but it just seemed rushed, and we have seen that story before, (cool guys get stuck with a group of losers but the losers learn a lot and become cool in their own way) I wish the film showed us more of monsters inc (it only does that towards the end) but that's OK because it wouldn't have fit in the story anyways. Overall this film was good, just not as good as pixar's previous films, I enjoyed it but I missed Boo :( I give it a 6/10
The Heat (2013)
Simple, Funny, Unpredictable
This movie is probably the funniest movie of 2013, it is amazing! Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy did a great job, in fact this is my favorite out of McCarhty's movies.
So this is a cop comedy, but it was loyal to the cop movie genre with a nice entertaining unpredictable story, action and amazing cast. The movie was hilarious, jokes are spread all over the movie, the viewer will laugh every 2 minutes (my theater was full of laughs throughout the film) the jokes in the film were really funny and belong in the context of the genre.
Two things I didn't like about this film were the directing and how Marlon Wayans's comedic skills were not used enough. The directing could have been a lot better it almost felt like I was watching an episode of 21 jump street (you could sense that this was a low budget film.) Marlon Wayans is one of the funniest comedians out there but don't expect to hear any jokes from him in this film :(.
Overall this film exceeded my expectations Bullock and McCarthy make a great team, the movie is definitely entertaining, GO WATCH IT!!!!! I give this film a 7/10
Man of Steel (2013)
Just an OK film...
I was very anticipated to watch man of steel, when I saw the trailers I thought this can be a "Dark Knight level" superhero film. The movie was OK, however nothing like the awesome trailers, it had a lot of issues but some of these issues were ruled out by the awesome directing and effects.
I felt that they tried to make a batman begins version of superman and sadly they failed, this movie had unbalanced action, it seemed like they pushed all of the action towards the end, the first 1.5 hours were boring all we see is Clark walking around, and every chance we get to see some humor or emotion it seems to be buried, either by action (towards the end) or the flashback went by so fast that the viewer can't "capture" the scene.
This movie was very different from any other Superman film, they tried to remind us that superman is an alien, it was more of a sci-fi drama than a superhero film, however I think that they focused way too much to remind us about that, this made superman seem very unfamiliar with earth, in terms of emotion. It also took away Superman's "identity" like kryptonite (although it wouldn't fit in the story, but they could've briefly introduced it) or Luthor and we don't get to see Clark Kent the reporter until the end of the movie!
The character build up in this movie seemed very weak, messy and rushed, I felt like they didn't seem to make Clark earn the name "superman".
Pa Kent was at his worst in this film, it seemed to me like he was teaching Clark to be a wimp! Like the part where Clark was being bullied and Pa Kent witnessed the whole thing, The least he could've done was help his son!
The romance between Superman and Lois was extremely dry! I felt they didn't take advantage of the brilliant acting of Amy Adams, Lois was simply a meddling, annoying reporter who just happened to fall in love with superman.
After the ultimate destruction of metropolis, the least we could have seen was one scene where we saw the reaction of the citizens about the attack. I didn't even feel that there was any reaction when the humans found out that earth was invaded by aliens.
Even though the movie had some issues, it still had some advantages, The casting in man of steel was brilliant (except for Amy Adams) Cavil makes a great Superman he would have been better if the screenplay was good, Russell Crowe makes a great Jor-el and Michael Shannon was a brilliant Zod.
I felt that Snyder has stepped out of his comfort zone to make this movie and I applaud him for that, his directing actually made me enjoy the movie, it was brilliant, from the camera flares to his camera zooms, Man of Steel was visually stunning, Snyder did a brilliant job!
As compared to the weak story the twist in man of steel is smart, it was obvious, but it was a very nice twist.
Man of Steel was successful in making superman a "bad-ass", he was great especially in the fight scene between Zod and Superman.
Overall the film had a lot of issues, and it was not as good as the trailers promised but it was an OK film, and a good start for the man of steel movies, I am sure the sequel will be much better since we will at least see Clark the reporter.
