Outlaw King (2018)

A Real Movie
10 November 2018
I loved this movie... it's beautiful in so many ways..... from it's cinematography to perhaps its best quality which is its attention to detail the small moments that really impact you and give you characters you want to succeed! It takes liberties.. yes... it's villains are a bit one dimensional... yes... but I don't think that takes away from what this movie tries to do which is to give a snapshot of these people's lives in a visceral and very real feeling world.

Great film certainly worth your time!

Good acting, nice cinematography, great film!
29 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was good, but the story line itself I found not to be that interesting all the time, what it instead had was lots of fighting with some gems among all of the rubble that this film brought. There were just small moments that made it interesting to watch. The other real highlights in this film I though was in the acting, to see such a diverse cast from some real film classic actors right down to some brand new actors, acting side by side with no real significant emphasis put on any one character, which was nice to see the range of characters.

Some of my favourite parts of this film were Ewan McGregor always going on about coffee, and Eric Bana's amazing performance as the kind of lone soldier who is driven by the fight and wont rest until all of the soldiers are safe, however I really did think that all the acting was superb, those were just some of my favourite moments. As stated before emphasis was well and truly diversified right down to characters like Blackburn played by Orlando Bloom being given majority of screen time before the fight to be killed almost instantly, it really did show that in war all are equal, even famous actors supposedly, which really ties into the Plato quote used at the beginning.

The imagery used was another defining feature of this film, such as the switch between military surveillance and just general shots of the troops, it helped to give the whole film a sense of realism.

All in all I really enjoyed this film and it really did give a good representation of modern warfare, and this tragic event, every loss of a character in the film was shown and sufficient acknowledgement was given to the dead which was also welcome to see in this film.

The Fighter (I) (2010)
7/10
Amazing Supporting Acting, but the rest of the film is fairly average.
28 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a fairly good film but I found it lacked anything to really differentiate it form so many film that are so similar to it. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it as a film, but still I found it didn't offer anything extra or anything else to make it a little more exciting.

To start with I found the whole story fairly dull, there were no real high points and found that even the dramatic ending which was a truly spectacular achievement was underplayed which was particularly odd, especially for a fighting film. Far too much emphasis was also put on the mother and sisters which kind of became tedious after just a small pat of the film, as they were fairly irrelevant as there were simply too many of them there all at once.

However I really did think that the way the fights was shown was original, using a TV style of shots was nice to give the film a sense of realism, as well as the montage of fights in the middle of the film which had smooth transitions and didn't over emphasise everything. In this film I felt some of the acting was really energetic Christian Bale being the first actor that comes to mind, as he really to show the crazy drug induced brother well, I felt that Amy Adams was also a welcome edition to the cast although I also felt she kind of lost her determination as a character towards the end, that be said she was still a pleasure to watch.

My biggest disappointment for this film was Mark Wahlberg who I found to be completely emotionless the whole film, which is sad as usually he shows more passion for a role but he really was quite wooden in his acting, but I get the feeling he was told to this rather than that being his own interpretation, but this did allow Bale and Adams to really steal the show, so to speak.

All in all I liked this film but felt it was really let down in how it was shown, which was a shame as there were some great acting performances in there. Worth a watch but it can be a little dull at times, particularly with the family problems.

Blade Runner (1982)

A revolutionary film of its time, amazing establishment of situation, but lacks in interesting story line.
28 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I was sceptical about watching this film, as I have been told it was one of films greatest creations, and I'm always slightly cautious about watching these as they are often disappointments. This film was okay by modern standards but I find it really hard to see what is so spectacular about it, I completely take into account the time that this film was made and how these kind of effects are revolutionary for this time, yet still I found the storyline a little fragmented and a little more just all over the place.

That being said I really enjoyed this world and how it was established, and how it didn't spend all of its time showing us this world and instead it was much more focused on the storyline, which was a pleasant surprise. However a vast amount of the acting was kind of rigid and I didn't really feel there were any break away performances, I do take into account that the characters are supposed to not show emotion but still I found that it wasn't that interesting to watch.

My highlight of the film is the simple ending, Rutger Hauer's line about teardrops in the rain, sums up the mentality of his kind in this film, and how they just want to live as they are essentially humans, and they just want more time. The part I disliked the most was how these robot like creatures were developing emotions towards the end of the film which goes against the point in the film and how they were finding them in the first place. The very end was also open ended which was welcome instead of another half an hour to forty-five minutes of film that would have answered some of the questions but not all.

All in all I liked this film and the way it is portrayed and it was truly revolutionary, but now it is too outdated especially considering all the events were supposed to be happening in the year 2019! None the less and essential film of its time.

Unfinished Storyline - made up for with amazing acting and intense moments.
26 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved this film, but at the same time it was nowhere near perfect. To start with I'll talk about the things that really annoyed me about this film, and then I will talk about how it managed to redeem itself.

To start with the ending is terrible, the film is missing about fifteen to twenty minutes of actually finishing the story lines, as you could see what was going to happen form the beginning Tommy was ultimately going to loose to Brendan, and after they had their final fight the film would end, and thats exactly what happened. It was a little disappointing to see this happened as it did not answer the questions as to what will happen to Tommy after the fight as he was about to be imprisoned for desertion, it also did not end the story line of why Tommy was in the tournament to start with, which was to raise money for his comrade who died in action, this was only mentioned once or twice and was never fully explained. I was expecting Brenda to offer half the money at the end of the fight to stop but instead he had to beat him - way to kick a man while he was down.

It may have also just been me but I did wonder where the father had gone, which kept being mentioned but then he just turned up again, and it didn't really show why he had left, and so I didn't really get this part of the film. Finally the most annoying part of the film is that in my eyes Tommy should have won, he was the better fighter and Brenda won most of his fights through 'flukes' which was irritating. Like I said earlier Brenda should have offered him half the money to stop fighting as Tommy had already taken his anger out on him and so had nothing to loose. Instead the guy who had been really average throughout the film won and just carried Tommy away, which only really ended the family drama part of the story.

However although this film's ending really annoyed me, what it did make up for was great acting Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy were absolutely amazing as their given roles, and anything they did seemed to be faultless. These two kind of stole the show, as they really got into their roles as fighters and it was really easy to see them as fighters, so little was left to the imagination. The fighting scenes also did not cut to much so you got to see some amazing fighting moves which was nice to see when most modern films don't really put them in, so this was another amazing factor.

Taking that all into account the main positive for me was when 'About Today - The Nationals' was played, it fit in so well to the film and really became quite emotional as these two brothers fought in their final round against each other. This is one of the few movies where I generally felt completely swept up in the moment and it really was quite sad, to see a man having travelled so far and get shot down at the final - However this does go along with my belief that Tommy Should have won, or they should have drew.

None the less I thoroughly enjoyed this film , and unfinished film but the journey was exceptional and I would be glad to rate this film as a must see for just about anyone.

A film with an intense story line that will keep anyone gripped and wandering what will happen next.
25 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is a true example of a meticulous complex storyline that really pays off at the end. The way the film is portrayed shows you everything from the beginning and leaves you all the clues, it does not hide the fact that Clyde played by Gerard Butler is the cause of all of the deaths and that he has had everything figured out form the start. Instead we see everything through the eyes of Nick, payed by Jamie Foxx, and he is the fundamental character who we are going to follow through Clyde weird and twisted games.

WIth this in mind I couldn't help but get a feel of some Saw rip off with the part at the beginning with the torturing and with cutting parts off and filming it, which kind of ruined this part of the story line for me, but on the positive Clyde's intense planning couldn't help but give me a sense of the Joker form batman, how he was always one step a head of the game and that ultimately the Jokers planning is one of his down sides was he becomes arrogant and doe snot think to protect himself form every possibility, in this was Butlers character was extremely interesting the watch.

The way that film was portrayed was fairly standard, but what was good was the use of the environment creating scenes which were kind of fake and inaccurate, to portray how synthetic the situation is, and how it is so extreme.

Never the less I enjoyed this film, their were holes in the storyline and unnecessary death but it did what it set out to do and there was no moment in this film where I found myself bored or not properly appreciating the situation. For an action film it really does pack a punch and leaves you wandering throughout how on earth he is doing the things he is doing and what on earth his next move will be.

This film is something a little different to your average action film, with its amazing acting and intense storyline you wont find yourself bored but instead guessing what is going to happen next.

Batman: Gotham Knight (2008 Video)

Simply too fragmented and too underdeveloped story lines.
23 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This collection of short films is fascinating to watch for any batman fan, but I feel as a collection it is a little too different and there does not really seem to be any logical link between the story lines, which was irritating. The stories were also underdeveloped and I just wished we could have seen more of these stories and they could have had that room for development.

What I did like is that none of the real generic batman villains were used instead the villains were more non common ones and it really helped to make each story unique so that it wasn't just the same kind of stories being generated over and over again. The stories were fairly unique as well although underdeveloped they did each have their own unique style.

All in all I enjoyed the stories but they were too fragmented and I just wish they had more of a central them or something that made them fit together better or something, just to make them fit, which was the main problem with this film.

Story that is not realistic at all but fairly test book in terms of a good comedy.
23 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is just about as average of a comedy as you can get, I say this but I still really enjoyed it as a film, but I was still left a lot of the time spent wandering why the inmates were getting away with so much. As much as it is a good comedy, the fundamentals of realism is what really stops this film from showing more strife in the characters and therefore being a better player.

Some of the main annoyances were small things such as Captain Knauer saying that he ran the place at the very beginning but we didn't really see him for much of the rest of the film, instead all the spotlight was on showing small little actions that forced the inmates to was to fight the guards so much, which was kind of irritating to watch as mainly they were small little actions.

The other main thing I hate about this film is Caretakers death, firstly he doesn't really take of anything much until after his death, and secondly why did they have to kill him off as the team were a little sad when for some odd reason they buried him on the same day of his death without his beloved family being present, and then the team was over it by the next day, making his death fairly irrelevant, which was a shame as he was the lovable sidekick for much of the film.

However I did love the idea of the team coming together to defy the odds but it did have a real sense of chance and the storyline itself is highly unbelievable, however you have to expect this when you see this movie due to its nature. For once I though Adam Sandler was actually kind of the right person for the job as he was laid back and this made sense due to his history but still I felt he could have acted a little more and so he could have had a bit more of a transformation by the end.

All in all I liked this film as a light hearted comedy, but if you do watch it just look out for the trillions of little irritating errors in this film that by the end make it kind of irritating.

Batman: Year One (2011 Video)
8/10
An amazing look into the origins of many of the key batman characters.
22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
What I really liked about this film is that it focused on not the origins of batman but really the start, because they are quite different, this film was more about the journey than just dwelling on the past through hundreds of flashbacks that can become quite tedious.

The main thing I liked about this film was that it focused around the idea of the beginnings of Commissioner Gordon which is something that I'd never seen before, which is odd considering how many batman films I had seen, it was a welcome break from the usual just strict batman origins type film. What this film therefore did well was to show how batman and Gordon's destinies became intertwined from an early stage in both of their careers.

The animation was excellent and really helped to show the storyline, it was not over done so that the characters were completing impossible feats that were obviously cartoonish, instead it was really realistic, and what was especially interesting about this batman film is that it did not really rely on any of the 'super' villains instead it was all the corruption of the police, which was again nice to see in amongst all of the other forgettable batman films.

I loved the over monologue to this film, especially from Bryan Cranston who I am a huge fan of anyway, he really helped to carry the film through in his hushed tones. My only real negatives about the film were kind of small things such as why was cat woman in the film, she didn't really fit into the story very well, and the final fight scene was annoying in how Barbara just guessed where they were and turned up and how a whole fight was had with a baby in hand - however these were easily overlooked due to the amazing animation and distinctness of the storyline.

This film essentially shoes the origins in a way of many of the characters other than just batman which is something that is a healthy change from the usual batman film, definitely worth a watch form any fan of the batman franchise.

First Joker film I've seen that hasn't completely relied on him!
22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this film, and it is one of the only batman related films that I have seen that I though was good enough to be seen as similar to the dark knight franchise, this film utilised the characters from batman so we didn't just get a snippet of the characters we really saw a diverse selection that really did work well together.

Only real negatives to me is characters like night wing were forgotten about half way through the story, yes this did make sense in terms of the story but I would have loved to see a bit more of him. Other than that this is one of the first joker related films I've seen that have not become totally involved int him instead he is merely the backbone to the past, but does not completely run it, so we saw him in healthy doses that allowed us to see the other characters in more detail.

There also wasn't too much of the story just left to the imagination at the end, most of the story lines were concluded which was good to see in a film. The animation was pretty darn good, it was professional and didn't drop frames, due to animators laziness, it was all put together fairly perfectly.

This film was really good in my opinion, and I really enjoyed watching it, it was the first joker film I've seen that hasn't relied on him too much for the storyline, and instead was a little more adventurous.

Completely made by the Joker!!!! The rest of the Storyline was kind of lazy.
22 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This was a good film but I cant help but feel that it was completely made by the joker, none of the other characters were really put any emphasis on at all, so it was once again left to the Joker to make it interesting, the idea of having him in some rundown old theme park was great idea as it gave so much diversity in his weird and whacky creations.

The character of the Phantasm was mildly interesting but, I still don't get why she took her mask of, or more importantly why it gave her the magical power to teleport, as it was never really described how she was doing this. There was also no real end to the mob boss storyline, it was just kind of all left again on the joker, and that was what was annoying about this film.

Batman and Bruce Wayne were played fairly well and it was pretty enjoyable to see this character in this situation, but most of the answers were given to him rather than him having to use any real skills to uncover the mystery and at the end he just kind of guessed who the phantasm was in my eyes, and it was pretty obvious as the only new person in town.

All in all I enjoyed the film, but to some reviews I've seen say ti s the only batman that could rival the dark knight I simply don't understand, it was good as just a bit of extra context and worth a watch but not as good as made out.

A classic - that delves into the question of what if someone truly good was put on death row?
21 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is one of the best films of all time, as it is completely unexpected and just outstanding. When I first watched this film I was never expecting one of the characters to have some kind of god given power, and even when I've now watched it a few times I still am left mesmerised every time it happens. The emotion in this film is one of its key parts, it utilises the idea of prison and especially death row, to show what people are really like even when they face 'the mile'.

The acting is without parallel in this film with key appearances of Michael Clarke Duncan who plays John Coffey so, so well, he so amazingly simple yet so deep at the same time he is truly a gentle giant, and it is a pleasure to watch. Tom Hanks also plays the head guard of death row extremely well, as he really has all authority and its interesting to see how he plays the role when many others would have become corrupted in such a position. The rest of the inmates all have their own detailed stories, as well as the guards, there is so many different tones in this film. It can really be sen that every kind of person can relate to someone in this film, an thats what makes it so great.

The use of the mouse is also something that must have been amazingly tedious to film but the responsiveness of the animal is something that is rarely seen in other films, so this is again something that makes this film amazing. The film is also long in terms of what we can normally expect for film length, but you don't notice it, I felt it could have gone on for many more hours and I would have enjoyed every minute of it.

The complexity of the relationships between guards and prisoners is also something that perfectly portrayed in this film, the idea that we are all humbled with this idea of our final mile, of what ever it may be for each person. Which leads to my next point about the meaning of this film, that there is so much hatred in this world, even though the characters had done bad things, there was only really one of them who was a truly bad person all the rest were humbled, and it was disgusting to see audiences to the executions cheering for revenge.

A lot of this film also was in what was not said and mere looks of trust were enough to reassure the audience so that we believed the story even though ti is obviously fantasy, but it is made so believable by these connections and outstanding acting.

This film is one of the best films of all time, and should definitely be watched by anyone, more than anything, to make them feel humbled that someone so pure and so good could be killed for something they didn't do, its portrayed so well - definitely a filming great and a classic.

Amazing Video Game/Comic Book format, let down by 'Cardboard' Acting
21 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is amazing in the way its put together, I love the whole video game/comic book vibe that this film gives off, and thats what really makes this film special, how much of this video game aspect is incorporated into the film, with coins exploding out of people when they died as well as classic comic book words coming out as well as sounds, it really is a treat for your eyes in terms of visuals, and a definite healthy break form what is usually out there.

Something I also really liked were the seamless transitions between different scenes that seemed to run on and so you never had heavy block transitions, instead the camera always moved with people to achieve maximum fluency which is something I greatly admired.

The one main thing I didn't like about this film was the acting, they kept it just interesting enough to be quirky but many of the actors in this film could be described as 'card board', which was kind of disappointing in a film that was put together so well. I've never really seen a film that I thought had been edited as well as this one, it was perfect in that term but really the acting let it down.

Im not a huge Michael Cera fan, and he definitely didn't pull through in this film either, all I ever think about him when I see him in this film, is that someone else could be doing this job better and it would have made the film a lot better.

I feel therefore that this film was excellently put together with amazing visuals in video game format but what let it down was some terrible acting which brought the tone of the film way down, and that was the disappointing thing about this film. However for something different in terms of editing this film is definitely an essential film for all film lovers.

Moon (2009)
8/10
One of the best films of all time - to create such a sense of community and helplessness, in this isolated location is outstanding.
21 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favourite films of all time! It is an amazing film which depicts some clones struggles to try to understand the situation that they are in. The isolation is a key aspect of this the fact that they are on the moon and cant talk to anyone on earth other than by recorded messages, is something that really helps to show the isolation.

Sam Rockwell is truly amazing in this film, he really does carry it through, and its especially interesting to see what happens when two Sam Rockwell's are out in a room together - the result they start fighting until on of them vomits blood. But really the awkwardness of the relationship at the beginning into realising how essential each other is something that is amazing through out this film.

Not to forget the crucial role of 'Gerty' the lovable computer played by Kevin Spacey was exceptional, his ability to keep tone and not give any emotion away was amazing instead he always kept the same tone, and so the only was we could know his feelings were by the faces that appeared on his screen.

I really liked the fact that 'Gerty' was a mix of completely computer, and computer with emotions, as films often get this wrong, but Spacey really does get ti exactly in the middle which is really enjoyable to watch, and see the development of the relationship between Spacey and Rockwell, its brilliant.

One of the most amazing parts of this film is the moment of realisation that first they are clones, when Gerty tells them about half way through the film it is amazing, because they really done know hoe to react. Other highlights are moments such as when Old Sam cries about how he wants to go home, it is a really emotional scene and helps to set the tone, showing the helplessness of the clones.

Finally is the moment that New Sam re-routes the harvester so that it will destroy the 'jammer' so that future Sam's will be able to contact earth, it shows the compassion between the humans and that they aren't programmes they are people and this should not be forgotten.

All in all one of the best films out there, with such a small cast to create such a feeling of community and helplessness is outstanding, a definitely much watch for anyone.

Conviction (II) (2010)
8/10
This is an amazing film, and is made truly special in it exceptional acting
20 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was essentially a film about someone brother being falsely accused, and a woman's struggle to try to prove her brothers innocence. The film was excellently portrayed not lingering to much on the emotional side and instead focused more on the story, which was interesting as the subject can be seen as more emotional.

However the nature of the convict played by Sam Rockwell, showed a happy and sort of borderline outrageous man who really was a bit of a joker, and so any scenes with him in were sure to brighten the mood. Rockwell did also excellently portray sadness, so he was not always a joker type person which helped to keep the tone of the film.

The sister character played by Hillary Swank was played exceedingly well, even in the situation, which is a woman spending a large proportion of their life to prove someone else's innocence, its really quite amazing, however Swank really did carry the film through, and was emotional enough without becoming eccentric.

Other characters were kind of underplayed but were crucial, such as the role of the two sons, who showed the viewer how much of Swank's characters life, had been spent on this case but without becoming melodramatic, that other films often show. Instead this film was more realistic in its viewing of the story.

The character of the best friend played by Minnie Driver was also crucial, my only criticism being that this character kind of became irrelevant about half way through the film, and this character just followed Swank around for the rest of the film, and when the eventual conclusion came they were nowhere to be seen and at the very end you just wonder what happens now.

Apart form my one criticism I really enjoyed this film, It gave a realistic view of a difficult situation, especially as the case was a real life case. The main was this was done is in the films incredible acting.

Into the White (I) (2012)

I enjoyed this film, and it is the first isolation film that hasn't focused on psychological aspects and instead just showed the situation.
20 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was simple and did not ever become over dramatic which many other films of a similar nature would. It is a story essentially of isolation and people who would normally be enemies, having to work together to survive. What was more interesting to me is that they did not focus to much on the psychological element of the event and instead merely focused on the situation, which is extremely peculiar for this kind of situation.

Although they aren't that similar, I couldn't help but get a 'Reservoir Dogs' feel from this film with the isolated setting and a group of people talking who normally wouldn't get on. It was enjoyable having a small cast and watching their antics in such a small place. There was essentially just the hut as the setting as for most of the film their surroundings were completely blinded by a snow storm.

I liked how the film started with it all in a foreign language showing the Germans struggle, but I wasn't looking forward to reading subtitles for a whole film, but this quickly wore off as the English entered the picture and the language changed, however it was kind of odd that all of the Germans could speak fluent English but he English could not do the same back.

Other things that confused me about this film, was why Rupert Grint was highlighted on the front cover as some kind of key character, when he wasn't really, but none the less I really did enjoy his northern accent.

I was a little dissatisfied by the ending, but it was realistic which I liked, it didn't have some happy ending where all of them were suddenly best friends and had all changed their views about each other by the end, instead they had all just learnt that the other side, were people rather than just the enemy. I didn't really like the fact that one of the Germans died when everything seemed to be going so well, but again it made it a little more realistic, leaving the film on a rather solemn note rather than some unrealistic happy note.

I enjoyed this film, and it is the first isolation film that hasn't focused on psychological aspects and instead just showed the situation.

This film is a good representation of Cold War England, but lacks any real breakthroughs on any level
19 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was good, and really helped to paint a picture of cold war england, but the movie represents what it is about, its a cold war, not a hot one, so if your expecting action or anything else than some stern faces walking around for two hours then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed.

This film is essentially Gary Oldman trying to find who the 'mole' is in the 'circus', who were one of the main sources of secret information in the Cold War, however although I am a huge fan of Oldman, watching him walk around for hours wasn't exactly what I would call amazing acting, but he certainly did play his character well, and he really did carry the film, albeit slowly and without any real emotion, without him the film would have been nothing.

I also felt that part of the reason this film never seemed to 'pick up' so to speak is the idea that event the music was kind of this constant drone, and it was like the beginning to some god awful American TV sitcom from the 60's, it did give the film that sense of the situation being mundane, where other films about this period would make more exciting. But thats what this film did, it was never that boring, and was never that exciting even when the thrilling conclusion was coming into fruition.

One flaw that I kind of found was that the character 'Tailor' is outlined on the front cover to be the mole, which is kind of annoying, as before the film even started you know who the character was who was the 'mole'. The films acting was generally fair, although for me there were no real, breakthrough performances, which was weird, considering the all star cast that this film had.

The perspective was also a little confusing at times, and I often had no idea were I was in time or space in the story, as well as parts like the end with the death of 'Tailor' being a little anti climactic, and should have been a little more emphasised.

This film is a good representation of Cold War England, but lacks any real breakthroughs on any level, and is merely a snapshot and so your left with many unanswered questions.

This is a good film, it relies to much on the first film, and did not have nearly enough action, and that is the thing that would have made this film great
17 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was good, but in my own eye it was not as good as the first film in the Kill Bill series. This fundamentally rested on the ending of the film being an anti climax as well as the fact that this film focused to heavily form answering questions from the first film, and so did not have as much action or storyline, instead it consisted mainly on flash backs. The flash backs were useful as to figuring out things about the 'bride' character, as well as showing more links between the assassin group.

Unlike the first film, most of the deaths in this film were disappointments as compared to the last film, they all were quick and there wasn't any of the intense fighting sequences that made most of the first film. Although music was integrated well into this film, I again feel that it was better in the first film, and that this film was more of a disappointment. The lack of more cartoon imagery used was again something that made this film look worse in comparison to the first film.

I only wish that more action had been put into this film, and more interesting shots to bring the film to life, especially in the flashbacks which were fairly frequent. My main problem with this film was the second half, as practically all action had ceased by then, and we just got pure mother issue with her daughter, this part was far to accentuated and although I enjoyed Bill as a character, I would have much preferred to see more of his so called amazing fighting skills.

Therefore all though this is a good film, it relies to much on the first film, and did not have nearly enough action, and that is the thing that would have made this film great.

It is not for the faint hearted but is definitely for anyone who likes something a little different and enjoys the oriental culture and quirkiness that this film has.
16 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is essentially a real life cartoon, with everything that happens being exaggerated, and the use of actually cartoon imagery being used really makes this film unique, although I do wish that a slight bit more cartoon imagery had been used, it was still extremely enjoyable to watch. Others would say that is may be pointless due to the exaggeration of everything in the storyline.

Being a Tarantino film it has the usual kind of weird perspectives, and this film really uses music to its advantage, helping to create images that are sure to stick in any viewers mind. My particular favourite part was how music was integrated into the film a the very beginning with 'Bang, Bang' by Nancy Sinatra, this part has really stayed in my mind, as it tells you so much about the story even though it has nothing to do with it.

Other highlights included the fluency of the fighting scenes and how they were not just all tricks of the camera by changing camera perspectives, although the fighting was unrealistic, that is what gave the film its charm. The characters were all quite shallow, but this again added to the feel of the film, and I believe this was intended, especially being a Tarantino fan.

All in all I really enjoyed this film, in all of its blood and gore and its almost comedy in how blunt it was the whole time. It is not for the faint hearted but is definitely for anyone who likes something a little different and enjoys the oriental culture and quirkiness that this film has.

Puts a hilarious view on a textbook love story to create something amazing.
16 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film is on of my favourite films of all time, it is brilliantly light hearted and due to its light hearted nature, every line is essentially 'quotable' and most people would know what the quote was from if you name one.

Although the storyline is not all that complex this film makes up for it with its characters who are all amazingly funny and you will find yourself laughing for hours at the amazingly synthetic conversations that you cant help but smile at. Although in retrospect this is a text book love story it is in the characters that we therefore get the real story and the comedy.

I watched this film a few years ago and thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen, however once I had expanded my movie knowledge just a little bit then I found it was a little outdated and was not as funny as I remember but it still none the less does deliver in terms of comedy.

This film also does look into the issue of womens rights and how this was opposed but accepted due to womens strife, which is something you really don't think about on face value with this film, as it just seems like a pure and pointless comedy film, but actually it does have a meaning although a little biased that can be seen as a relatively accurate portrayal.

This film has really great acting with my favourites going to the channel four news team, and even more in particular to Ferrel for creating such an iconic character, and Carrell for creating the most amazingly stupid character I've ever seen, it is needless to say that anyone would find a character to relate to in amongst this group.

All in all I really enjoyed this film, puts a hilarious view on a textbook love story to create something amazing.

Blood Diamond (2006)

thought this was a really good film that did not linger on the environment too much and instead focused on the story being told.
15 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
In general I really enjoyed this film, it has an amazing story line and has a positive message to go along with it, its something that is quite common nowadays in terms of film, but it is none the less extremely enjoyable as a film, and you wont be bored at any point throughout the film.

The acing is one of the highlights of this film, with particular praise going to DiCaprio, being a fan anyway definitely swayed my opinion, but his amazing attempt at the South African accent will eave you quoting for days. He really gets into the characters as well, even though this sort of character is a specialty of DiCaprio, it is still enjoyable to see him put the South African tinge on this character.

Hounsou and Connelly are also welcome additions but they did not really shine as actors as much as DiCaprio did. The general cast was also good and really helped to show off this particular part of the world and emphasise the struggle of these people. Being about some real life event this film did not make the fatal mistake of making the film almost a documentary int eh way it is set out, it is instead a story and a good one at that.

DiCaprio's death is something that is essential to the story line and I'm glad they put it in the film as it really keeps the idea of T.I.A, and his death is slightly over emphasised but is not ruined by how it is shown, it instead just lingers on his death for a second and then moves on. The only part of this film that did annoy me was the ending, the idea the at the very people who we knew would no longer associate with DiCaprio's character were willing to work with Hounsou for DiCaprio was slightly outlandish, and a little absurd, but it did make for a good ending tot he film, so that it not just end with DiCaprio's death.

I thought this was a really good film that did not linger on the environment too much and instead focused on the story being told.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

This film was all in all something of either pot luck, or sheer genius, but I don't think I'll ever know which one, but all I know is that enjoyed it somehow!
14 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
At first after watching this film I thought it was absurdly pointless, and wasn't really too sure why I'd spent the last two and a half hours watching just some peoples lives, but then I realised that, that is the point, the fact that these groups of peoples lives were all interwoven in such a seemingly mundane yet chance like way that it made actually for an interesting film.

I'd attempted to watch this film before about, two years ago, but got bored about half way through, although now having finished it, I actually really enjoyed it, but have no idea why... It had all of the classic Tarantino methods woven into it to make it interesting, the stories all inter-locked at different points so that it did not seen too synthetic, just the right amount that it was .... good.

Highlights included the role of Samuel L. Jackson, with his amazing speech and ability to stay calm, in hectic situation made his role fundamental for me in the storyline. I also enjoyed Bruce Willis's storyline and how he managed to get out of trouble in the most imaginative way possible, how all of these things happened by chance yet were so random that they could only be by chance is why this film for me was so good.

The general feel of the film, of really setting the scene as well as showing the culture of this particular kind of mob, was really interesting to see and helped to make the film such an outstanding thing to behold. Especially its stop start kind of nature, and its kind of chapters or acts which split it up between story lines.

This film was all in all something of either pot luck, or sheer genius, but I don't think I'll ever know which one, but all I know is that enjoyed it somehow!

Memento (2000)
8/10
In general I enjoyed this film and really enjoyed the strange perspective used, that is not really evident in other movies.
14 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was on of those films where you come out, not sure whether you enjoyed it or not. It takes a little while before you realised that the fact that it has made you think as much as it has, is what truly makes it great and therefore because of this it really was an exceptional film.

The perspective of this film is the component that makes it stand out above others, the idea of the film starting at the end of the story and then slowly going back through the storyline to where it began is something I've never seen done, in such intensity before, other start at the end and then explain how they got there but this film is well and truly backwards.

The use of narration was pivotal in this film, if you didn't have it the storyline would be far to complex and un-understandable to even the most observant of viewers, the narration therefore takes us through each action that is completed, and more importantly is used to emphasise the extent of the memory loss that occurs in the film.

Although most questions were answered during this film, I found myself sometimes wondering if I had missed something, some small detail that would have made an action make sense, that I just didn't notice, but the storyline still made sense despite its complexity. The only question I was really left with was, what happens now? Does the vicious cycle just continue on forever, will there ever be an end? However you have to realise that that is the point in the film, your left with as few answers as the main character, and thats what makes it such an interesting journey.

Acting in this film was generally good, nothing too special as its this idea of the complexity of the storyline that carries the film forward, but needless to say the relatively small cast pulls the job off well, but I found myself never sure what I was supposed to think of a character, this seems to be the point in the film though.

In general I enjoyed this film and really enjoyed the strange perspective used, that is not really evident in other movies.

Taken 2 (2012)
6/10
I still enjoyed this film even with all of its holes, but don't expect something spectacular, but may be the last time you see Neeson in an action role
13 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was enjoyable but was with its flaws, the storyline was enjoyable, but I think the main thing about this movie that annoyed me, is that it seemed to go by far to quickly, with action being little, making it a little more disappointing than the last taken film. I think the main cause of this is Neeson, he is great especially at acting the caring father, which carries the main storyline, but in this film he is simply not as energetic as he has been in previous films, I know this is because he is getting older, but it really destroys the point in the film.

So what they have tried to do in this film is make it look as though Neeson is getting older and is a little more tired than the previous Taken film, this makes him look even more exhausted as a character, and although all of his lines are given with the sentiment of love behind them to his family, because of the way he is portrayed many of his lines lack emotion enough to make them interesting.

There were many other annoying plot holes such as the point Neeson's character calls his life 'Honey' throughout even though they're not together, a little irritating to say the least, as well as the end left with whether he got back with her at the very end, completely unanswered, but at least we know whether the daughter passed her driving test by completing a perfect parallel park!

It was the pushing forward of trivial parts of the story such as the useless involvement of the boyfriend purely to make a semi-funny joke at the end, its was kind of frustrating. Are they setting things up for Taken 3 where the boyfriend is taken, and Neeson is too tired to go save him, just spit balling ideas, a little weird though.

The fighting scenes were also short and the camera switched about so much to look like action, when nothing was really happening. You got a sense of Neeson's former epicosity but it wasn't there as much as in previous films. There's also small other issues like the amount of damage that is done in this film to other peoples property is completely forgotten about, and even though people have been killed everyone gets away with it, its a little odd.

Nevertheless I still enjoyed this film even with all of its holes, but don't expect something spectacular, but may be the last time you see Neeson in an action role.

A film that is completely unique, and something different from the usual mobster styled films, especially in terms of perspective.
12 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This film was something a little different than most other films you'll see today, you know its going to be a little odd as it a Tarantino film, and you know that it is going to be shown in a strange and inventive manner, again because its a Tarantino film, but this is really a film that is unpredictable but with a perspective which manages to keep this relatively simple storyline, interesting.

The idea of characters being refereed to by colours is definitely a concept which I found particularly intriguing, especially as the people in charge of the operation revealed their own names to the team. However even with this you were never really told what happened to Mr. Blue, only that the died, and what ever happened to Mr. Pink after he ran out, or Mr. Orange and Mr. White at the end, but that is the fundamental controlling idea of this film, its unpredictability and its unanswered questions.

Tarantino really does put his own spin on this event, and at the end of the film part of me was wandering what I had just watched and why I just watched it, but everything else about me enjoyed the journey and loved trying to figure out what all of the unanswered questions were supposed to mean and why they were left unanswered.

A well conducted story, with the interesting idea of all of the current events occurring in a single location, and further that we never saw any of the events in the film happen, and we get the pure aftermath without any of our minds being set about a character before this crucial part came, instead it was the film, and this is something that I don't think I've ever seen done before.

A film that is completely unique, and something different from the usual mobster styled films, especially in terms of perspective.
